H Singh: that's awesome. We don't have to wear helmets in UK if u are a turbaned Sikh. Lol, tie ur dastar tighter?
That's really good that u don't ever want to cut ur kesh! And good thing u picked up on jobs. I know loads of gursikhs that are doctors, lawyers, dentists etc.
And as Sikhs, we can't to clubbing anyway. So yeah......

I am a Sikh and I love my culture!
Well hair doesn't matter to me!
I think a Sikh even if he cuts his hair remains a Sikh if he has faith in his god!a real Sikh is a Sikh who goes to a gurudwara, does kirtan, paath and who believes in God!
A Sikh who wears a turban just for show, and for his family but does not believe in his god is not a Sikh for me!

listen just promise you're parents that after cutting hair you won't run away from you're culture and will remain a Sikh till the day you die,you will do,path and ho to the gurudwara.
I'm sure they will agree and allow you to cut you're hair

hi mani

well i can understand you problem and there are some things that you can do ......

The problem you are suffering with needs some extreme measures to be cured ....you can regain your hairline by using MINOXIDIL 2% or 5% solutions(any brand). they are available in any local drug store. I wont recommend you to use it without consulting your dermatologist....it has some very good results in this area and as you are 15 years of age you will be able to regain much of your hair but it takes around 10-12 months for you to notice the results. dont worry and consult a really good dermatologist. hope u find a solution to this problem.....best of luck....

I really wish there was a simpler way of things but there is not. you have to talk to your parents , listen to their part of story. they have followed this thing for their entire life and suddenly you cant take it away from them. you have to talk to them about this topic like an adult with maturity. Make them believe that you are just cutting your hair and not your religious beliefs, that you are still a sikh at heart, becoz generally parents think that sikhism will go from the family with your hair, make them believe that this will not happen.

See this will take sometime(few months) but will get you to the place where you want to be. you have waited your whole life for this to happen so few months wont matter. Just have patience and you will be able to do that happily without any guilt.

Just dont cut it without telling your parents, it will really upset them and you dont want to do that to your parents.

best of luck

Hey everyone...
I just turned 19 last tuesday...
Just to tell u something about myself, I m the youngest of three sisters. My eldest sister works in a software company in noida and the 2nd one is doing CA.
We belong to a jatt sikh family. My eldest sister used to trim her hair in school time and the second one also followed her footsteps and started cutting her hair as soon as she reached college. My eldest one got her hair cut from waist level to shoulder level as soon as she went to noida.
But I had never cut my hair as I had very long hair.

But from 1st of sept, my college is about to start. And my sisters were after my life that I get my hair cut as they had seen the world outside and knew what difficulties I m going to face. On my birthday, they took me outside saying that they had planned something for me. I had no idea whatsoever. To my surprise, they took me to a beauty parlour. I was afraid. The eldest one calmed me down saying it was just a routine thing..

They made me sit on the chair and opened my braid. I was literally shivering at that time. The lady sprayed water on my hair and combed it straight. And then took the lower end of my hair...and snniiickkkkkkkk...snnnoickkkk. ... around 5-6 inches of my hair was gone... lying lifeless on the floor... my hair is still long but they now have a straight profile at the bottom and look healthier than before... I m liking it now... lets c how things unfold in future after I join college....

CONGRATULATIONS Manmeet! Very thoughtful of your sisters; and a perfect birthday gift for you. I am sure you will love it and more important than the hair cut and length is the comfort level and the experience at the parlour. Your sisters have initiated you at the right time and included in their club. You will not feel out of place in college and maybe you would experiment with a few styles and then as they have challenged - shoulder length! But have no fear and inhibitions. Just as they have changed, your parents would also adjust to your way. Love your family for the understanding quotient! Good luck and Best Wishes!

Trust me, i had long hair all my life. Never ever even trimmed them untill the day of my marriage came. I was introduced to a boy who trimmed his beard. We belong to a rich family and the boy too.
I liked him at first look and it appeared that he too liked me. We were made to talk to each other seperately.
During our initial talks, he asked me if i had any objections to his beard trimming. I anyways had no problems as some of my cousins already cut hair and it was not an issue in our family.

Then he asked me if i had ever thought of a haircut as i had very long hair, almost till my hips. I said no. He said that he was ready to marry me, provided if i had my hair cut as he had a circle in which he had to attend high profile parties often and interacted with high society people. with these long hair, according to him, i would have been a misfit.

I told him that i needed time for it as i had to discuss this with my family.

To my surprise, my family had no objections. Rather, some of my cousin sisters who already cut their hair got really excited about the prospect. It was a yes from our side.

A week before our marriage, my faince asked me to accompany him to the unisex salon where he got his beard trimmed. I knew this day had to come. I put my hair in a pony tail and got ready for the Big Day before the BIG Day. I was taken to the salon and asked to take the seat by the stylist. I had no idea at all what was going to happen as my fiance had planned everything.

The stylist just asked me to relax and lay back on the chair.
She opened my pony tail and was really mesmerised by the length and thickness of my hair. But it had to go today, and i was prepared for it.

I just closed my eyes and waited for thing to happen. I realized that she was combing my hair thoroghly and then sprayed some water. All of a sudden, the combing stopped and there was a noice... scruunncchhhh, cruuunncchhh, snnniicckkk, snnncciiickkk, crrrrrrr.....
Hair was falling down and my head started getting a bit lighter. i felt some of the cut hair on my laps. Some hair came on my cheeks. I had never had such a feeling. I could hear the crunching sound of the scissors just close to my ears but had no idea what was happening as i had closed my eyes. Now the stylist came in front and started doing something to my front hair as if giving a side fringe.. i could feel some cut hair on mt face and neck as well... it all continued for about half an hour. Finally iut was over. i was aked to open my eyes...

Alas!!! Who's she.. definitely not me... A girl with around shoulder length hair at back and around neck length at front. There was a side fringe as well... I could not recognise it was me..

We moved out of the salon, sat in the car and went for a long drive and there, i got my first french kiss of my life. The best ever experience i could ever have.

@Mani: Congratulations! You are such a lucky girl and now a lady after marriage! It was real appreciative on the part of your family to accept your proposal.
And I am sure you must be loving your 'new look'. Do share more about your feelings and the response of your family on your transformation. It will help many overcome their inhibitions d will help them live lives of pride. Most of us do not cut our hair because of familial ties and apprehensions but when we are accepted, there is sp much of joy and comfort, that it is retained for life and all those who were against it, now actually love it. Best Wishes in your married life and it must be fun, when it has stared in such a fine tone!

A sikh means a person who is learning, a disciple of shri guru granth sahib ji, a follower of the teachings and preaching of the ten masters, thus all in all attain the one who is abhay, ajay, abhu, aju i.e. the almighty lord. What do we do in our life to try and arrange a contact with the almighty. It can be done through naam, simran ( meditation ). Going to gurudwara is ritualistic but visiting a gurudwra in order to pay obissience to the almighty is the karam of sikh. First be a sikh giving pleas that you shall do paath visit gurudwara after cutting hair are the lame excuses. Visit the gurudwara, read understand and practice gurbani doing so you will be in love with your appearance and feel blessed and will never want to alter your looks. If not appearance and hair atleast respect and follow one preaching of shri guru gobind singh ji " guru manyo granth". Read the holy verses and thou shall return back not as sikhs but as khalsas. Waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh.
