Congrats!!!! first step done. Stay like this for sometime and by then your dad will get used to your looks. And you will get the hang of the barber shop and stuff. Also you may discuss how to go short in steps with the barber , if your dad does not accept. Later you may go the 'hair vanishing' trick at one go !
Congrats once again for the first step.
hie friend can you tell ways how to agree my parents for my haircut.i badly need that .i am totally frustrated from my hair lenght.pls help me .. and tell me how you feel after haircut.how your parents were agree for your cut.plzz help and give me some good suggestions.

i am sikh never cut my hair, use to trim my beard but grown it for last 3-4 years. i live in uk for last 9 years and never faced any problem getting a job because of my turban and beard. i am not keeping my hair because i am very religious but because its my identity and of course because of my parents. i am married to a white girl and she doesn't mind me having my beard and turban. but there are things i feel i cant do or at least dont feel comfortable doing them like i want a sports bike and commute to job on bike but i cant because i have to wear turban and it will flew away as soon as i will hit 60-70 miles p/h and turban cant replace proper helmet. never feel comfortable going out clubbing, gym, swimming etc. its not that i am finding an excuse of cutting my hair but there are things i miss out because of my turban and trust me i am 6.2" looks handsome with turban and i love my turban to death. if i think practically i think it would be better without turban in today's world...but i am not going to have a hair cut ever because i cant dare to do that and i love my turban.....

H Singh: that's awesome. We don't have to wear helmets in UK if u are a turbaned Sikh. Lol, tie ur dastar tighter?
That's really good that u don't ever want to cut ur kesh! And good thing u picked up on jobs. I know loads of gursikhs that are doctors, lawyers, dentists etc.
And as Sikhs, we can't to clubbing anyway. So yeah......

I am a Sikh and I love my culture!
Well hair doesn't matter to me!
I think a Sikh even if he cuts his hair remains a Sikh if he has faith in his god!a real Sikh is a Sikh who goes to a gurudwara, does kirtan, paath and who believes in God!
A Sikh who wears a turban just for show, and for his family but does not believe in his god is not a Sikh for me!

listen just promise you're parents that after cutting hair you won't run away from you're culture and will remain a Sikh till the day you die,you will do,path and ho to the gurudwara.
I'm sure they will agree and allow you to cut you're hair

hi mani

well i can understand you problem and there are some things that you can do ......

The problem you are suffering with needs some extreme measures to be cured ....you can regain your hairline by using MINOXIDIL 2% or 5% solutions(any brand). they are available in any local drug store. I wont recommend you to use it without consulting your dermatologist....it has some very good results in this area and as you are 15 years of age you will be able to regain much of your hair but it takes around 10-12 months for you to notice the results. dont worry and consult a really good dermatologist. hope u find a solution to this problem.....best of luck....

I really wish there was a simpler way of things but there is not. you have to talk to your parents , listen to their part of story. they have followed this thing for their entire life and suddenly you cant take it away from them. you have to talk to them about this topic like an adult with maturity. Make them believe that you are just cutting your hair and not your religious beliefs, that you are still a sikh at heart, becoz generally parents think that sikhism will go from the family with your hair, make them believe that this will not happen.

See this will take sometime(few months) but will get you to the place where you want to be. you have waited your whole life for this to happen so few months wont matter. Just have patience and you will be able to do that happily without any guilt.

Just dont cut it without telling your parents, it will really upset them and you dont want to do that to your parents.

best of luck

Hey everyone...
I just turned 19 last tuesday...
Just to tell u something about myself, I m the youngest of three sisters. My eldest sister works in a software company in noida and the 2nd one is doing CA.
We belong to a jatt sikh family. My eldest sister used to trim her hair in school time and the second one also followed her footsteps and started cutting her hair as soon as she reached college. My eldest one got her hair cut from waist level to shoulder level as soon as she went to noida.
But I had never cut my hair as I had very long hair.

But from 1st of sept, my college is about to start. And my sisters were after my life that I get my hair cut as they had seen the world outside and knew what difficulties I m going to face. On my birthday, they took me outside saying that they had planned something for me. I had no idea whatsoever. To my surprise, they took me to a beauty parlour. I was afraid. The eldest one calmed me down saying it was just a routine thing..

They made me sit on the chair and opened my braid. I was literally shivering at that time. The lady sprayed water on my hair and combed it straight. And then took the lower end of my hair...and snniiickkkkkkkk...snnnoickkkk. ... around 5-6 inches of my hair was gone... lying lifeless on the floor... my hair is still long but they now have a straight profile at the bottom and look healthier than before... I m liking it now... lets c how things unfold in future after I join college....

CONGRATULATIONS Manmeet! Very thoughtful of your sisters; and a perfect birthday gift for you. I am sure you will love it and more important than the hair cut and length is the comfort level and the experience at the parlour. Your sisters have initiated you at the right time and included in their club. You will not feel out of place in college and maybe you would experiment with a few styles and then as they have challenged - shoulder length! But have no fear and inhibitions. Just as they have changed, your parents would also adjust to your way. Love your family for the understanding quotient! Good luck and Best Wishes!
