Say this. I want a haircut. But explain why. Nicely, and calmly. It took my months to confront my father. But he kept on saying no. So I told him, im going to get a haircut. Not asking his permission though. Just telling him.

Ok, I am 14 year old girl in high school. I know how this feels like. For all you saying people think I'm not a true Sikh because I cut my hair. That's not true...but it's not right either. For example you are watching someone get bullied, not joining the bully is good but not helping the person is also bad. I think you guys need to learn why Sikhs keep their hair. And hey there good and bad people of all kind even Sikhs, but your the one that chooses to do the right thing. Knowledge is power, and what's in the inside that counts. If you learn this you will realize who is your real friend. Who is going to be with you till the end. I just wanted to give some advice. I'm no one to judge, and if you think you have made a mistake. You can fix it. Be strong. You can disagree, spam, say I am nutty all you like. I just want to share this out there. Be strong, and do what ever you like. But remember the truth.

kripya dhyan rakhen ki yeh jigyasa hai. sikh dharm ki aalochna nehi. unhaircut ke peechhe logic kya hai ? kai aise log bhi hein jo ki sikh nehi hein kintu "SHRI GURU GRANTH SAHIB" me poori aastha rakhte hein, Gurudware jaate hein, maatha tekte hein, to kya unki shraddha sweekar nehi hoti hogi ? Maine kai aise santon ko TV par pravachan karte dekha hai jo Guru Granth Sahib ka sandarbh dete samay Ya Guru Nanak devji ka nam lete samay apne sar par apna shaal ya angochha rakhte hein. khule sar kabhi Nam tak nehi lete hein. Vastutah kya baat rahi hogi ki-- Shri Gurudev ji ne sar par kesh rakhne ki baat kahi hogi ? wastvik karan kya raha hoga ? kripya koi bhai bahen samadhan karne ki kripa karen.

@Sarneet Kaur: I consider it that your parents have actually understood your dilemma and allowed you a haircut. When you go for a side cut/bangs you can also get the length reduced to an acceptable length. Also to begin with it is nice feeling to get onto the saloon chair and get the bangs done. The crunching sound of the scissors on your hair is so nice to hear. You may also get the parlour lady to get your hair short around the ears as it would be covered by the length all over. Experimenting is fun! And after a few visits you can talk your parents for the shorter version. Go ahead Sarneet - you have the green signal! Let us know how you go about it.

hello everybody i am Ramandeep, Avneet's sister-in-law. i am 23 and going to get married this dec.
By the way, its a love cum arranged marriage with a hindu guy.
Believe me friends it was not easy at all but our families were finally convinced at accept our love.
Ok now how is it related to this forum...
Being a sikh girl i am having long hair just like avneet bhabhi had. Now, my would be mom-in-law has laid some conditions which i need to fulfill to adopt their culture and to get fit into their family. First i have to change my name to Deepika Saxena after marriage. Then as per their family tradition strict no to western wear, it would be only sarees. And finally as per my lover's wish i had to get my long haircut.
Next week i am going for the haircut. I have always wished to have short hair. And bhabhi is full of support for me.

@Ramandeep aka Deepika: Congras for your mixed marriage. And I am sure that after all the convincing your parents and in-laws ahve agreed to your marriage. I am not sure but it is going to be a little difficult to adjust to the new name; but since you have started to address yourself by Deepika, you will get used to it by December. Also your m-i-l will be happy that you are all out to embrace their culture and be a prt of the family. You should go to their place often so that you can learn some Hindu prctices and also get to know their puja customs. But being in Dehradun you would be used to all the Hindu festivals and also the Hindus come to the Gurudwara. Best Wishes to you for your life ahead. As for you haircut - I think you will have no problem as your bhabhi and your niece have haircuts already. So they would know how to style your hair. Your niece has been having haircut since one year and your bhabhi also has the pleasant experience of a hair cut. You are lucky that you have understanding family. I wish you all the best and also congratulate you for having such a loving bhabhi. Do let us know about your experience at the saloon. This will also help you to know about haircutting as your fiancee will be going infor regular haircuts. Aslo both of you can go to a Unisex saloon after marriage for hiarcuts together. Getting a haircut now will help your fiancee to see you in a glorious mode and also encourage to have shorter hair. Maybe you can go to a saloon together earlier too.
Enjoy your lightness and your haircut. Avneet's episode was so interesting. Your's made interesting reading and was also touching so learn that you are so much accepting your new role in the Saxena household. Best Wishes and keep us updated!
