Hi Sheri,
The only way to come out of this discouraging stage is try something new, get a new hair style or cut, change your make up or a simple as your shoes and new hand cream. It sounds ridiculous but it works. Trust Me.:))

Hi Cute Gal!
Welcome to the forum!
:)
Is Optifast 900 something new that you can get in Canada (more calories per shake)....or was that a typo and you meant Optifast 800? I know that some countries have different formulas than we do.
I agree with Sheri....check the sodium in that broth! If it tastes good, it probably has too much sodium in it! LOL!
Personally, I think 3 lbs. in 4 days is pretty darn good, BTW!:)
I had problems with diarrhea in the beginning....then about half way through it was CONSTIPATION!! One thing that you have to think about: you are eating much less "food" now than you were. It makes sense that you have less bowel movements when your colon is not filled up like it used to be. That said, it's helping me to take Colace (stool softener). At least I don't feel like I'm giving birth every time! LOL!
Sorry if this is TMI for everyone! Just thought it might help Cute Gal.
:)

Marye,
I laughed and felt embrassed at the same time, it sounds so funny "Cute Gal having bowel problems & colon is not enlarged". Anyways thank you for the support appreciate it. I don't know if this is a new program, I am taking Optifast 900 which means 225 Cal per packet of the protien & 4 shakes a day. Here in Canada I haven't heard of Optifast 800, rather there is Optifast 1200 too.
Soup I am taking has tons of Sodium (910mg). I did stop consuming it as soon as I read Sheri's blog.

Ladies, I got to share this I stepped on the scale today & it showed 176.0Lbs which means I am down by almost 7 lbs for which I am very happy, its my 5th day. YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

The Optifast 800 shakes have 160 calories each, and we consume 5 of them for 800 calories total. I mostly had 6 of them to total 960. So I assume then that the Optifast 1200 has 1200 calories total.
I figured that you guys probably had different products.

Hi Ava:
Transition is tough, but hang in there! For a time I wished I could stay on the shakes forever. I do have one suggestion for a breakfast shake instead of making a traditional breakfast. That has helped me ween from the program of shakes and still have the on-the-go convenience. I use the muscle milk from Costco and add a banana and milk. Tastes good and feel familiar.
I have to stay away from the bars or any type of power/protein bars too as I have the same response: That I feel I need more and more. Hang in there! Keep up the good work! It gets better.
Thom
Thanks for the advice Thom, but I am transitioned from Optifast to a new program at my doctor's office which requires this very restrictive diet of real food and so right now I don't even have the flexibility of regular Optifast transition :( Hopefully it will get the last chunk of weight off. I will keep everyone posted.~ Ava

Iíll skewer it and grill them later today. Then Iím taking my three cups of raw veggies and having it with Walden Farms Blue Cheese Dressing. Sort of like buffalo chicken and veggie dip! Plus I love San Pellegrino Sparkling Water so Iíll wash it all down with that. Sounds yummy right?...Mike in Swansea.
Hi, Mike. Welcome to the Board. Help me out here...I'm a bit confused. You're on Optifast? Why are you EATING after just getting started? All of us started with a 21 day - 3 month FAST - Optifast products only up to 960 cal per day; then after the 12th week, we start adding food back in, not much, little by little. Just wondering here.

Hi Rosemary!
I am on the Modified Fast program. The plan includes one very strict meal per day. I can have 6 cooked ounces of a lean protien like chicken or fish or beef and 1 1/2 cups of cooked veggies or 3 cups raw veggies. They estimate the results to be between 2.5 and 5 lbs average per week. The entire day consists of 3 shakes, one piece of fruit and the meal described above. My email is m.notarangelo@comcast.net if you care to talk about it more. Good Luck! Michael

Hi All!

Jut a quick FYI. Have you heard of new obesity drug Qnexa? It's still in clinical trial and will be on the market soon. Heard about it from my doctor last week. Vivus (drug company) is finding tremendous weight loss results by mixing "phentermine" and "topamax" in one capsule.

My doctor is doing a trial of his own with the drugs and asked if I wanted to try. I am starting my trial tomorrow and am interested to see what happens.

For more info, use links below. If you've already heard re: this -- ignore.

Continued Success to You!!!

Hi Everybody,

Confession Time: So past Saturday we took our son for Pizza, You should have seen me, my mouth was watering I was drolling over pizza like a dog, I don't recall how many times I thought of eating a bite... and screw off the diet.... it was so irresistible, with my husband support I made it didn't eat. Rather I licked the left over from my son feeding that was stuck on my fingers. And then I relaised that it's all about taste, my stomach doesn't care what's coming in it...

And on other ocasion I chewed on a piece of smoked meat & spitt out as soon my taste buds were satisfied, instead of swallowing, will that take me out of ketosis or its normal.......

I feel bad , it was that I was hungry,,,, I smell was very good....

Hi Cutegal -- Welcome to the Blog -- I've been away for 2 weeks and haven't caught up with the all the messages yet. I can only speak from my own experience. IT'S A SLIPPERY SLOPE!!! FIRST YOU LICK, THEN YOU CHEW, THEN YOU SWALLOW, THEN YOU SAY TO HELL WITH IT I'M EATING.

My advice -- don't do it, stick with the program and do not deviate, it is toooo hard to get back on track -- at least this was my personal experience.

Wishing You Continued Success!

Side Effects of the Qnexa: I read a bit of the research and they seem minimal, but of course everyone's body will react differently. I started the trial yesterday and so far no side effects yet. It's too soon for me to tell, and I'm being monitored by my doc. Qnexa is a mix of 2 drugs that have been on the market for a while, Phentermine -an appetite suppressant and Topamax -for migraines. My doc explained that one of the side effects for migraine sufferers who use topomax was weightloss so obesity researchers are now testing it.

Sheri....how far are you from goal? Could the problem be that you are already looking "normal" and the drive to look better is waning?
I remember that when I did this before, the accolades from others who saw me losing weight was part of what kept me motivated to keep going. Once I got down to my goal weight, people got used to seeing me at that weight and the oohs and aahs slowed down. Then I realized it was just ME and the FOOD and MAINTENANCE! Some of the luster wears off over time. That's a huge reason why some dieters regain the weight...it becomes something to continue to drudge through without any of the "glamor" of the initial weight loss. Something to think about that might get you back on track? If you still have a ways to go till you reach goal, let your focus be a personal CHALLENGE to yourself to NOT be like others that gain it back. In other words, prove your strength to yourself!! Make THAT your center and focus this time.
:)
Hi Marye:
I sure do wish that the ooohhhs and aaaah's were stopping. I actually HATE having people comment on my weigh loss!!! Can't stand it!!! It actually makes me want to go out and eat even more. I Know that must sound really off the wall but I have a really hard time with it. And just wished people would just go about their business and stop commenting on it. I had only about 30 lbs to loose now it is more like 70 more to lose. Still having a very difficult time staying focused and on track. I have been sick with a cough for the last 9 weeks or more and so exercise has come to a halt which doesnt help matters. So many many re-starts latley and they just dont seam to stick.

Hťy everyone,
I just started this optifast diet on 8feb 2010 , and already lost 8 pounds (yeeey) Im currently 143 pounds 5'4" what I want to know is how much will i loose in a mounth , and what is the perfect weight i can reach to ?
Hi Mary:
I am just wondering why you are on a liquid diet you are 143 and 5'4 and your at a great weight for your height. Optifast is for people who are obese and have more than 50#'s to lose if you want to lose a few lbs you can do that with weight watchers eating regular foods. Optifast can
be VERY Dangerous if not monotored by a doctor and my guess is your not being monetored by a doctor because they wouldnt even accept you into their program. Do go on the optifast.com website and read up about the diet but also just eat and cut your food's in 1/2 I dont mean to be discouraging but enjoy your weight as it is because your right where your supposed to be. ;-)

It they aren't easy spirit tennis shoes I would break my neck. I do know what your getting at however.. which is to do for myself but quite frankly I have always given to others before myself. Guess I need to learn to take care of Sheri some time soon. So I will work on it. Oh I did get a pedicure the other day.. cant stand the color I was talked into so will be taking it off and putting a clear coat on.. yep.. me being simple lol

Hi Michael:
Where are you taking your optifast program at? The amount you are allowed to eat is a lot more than even the first week of transition which is usually 4 oz protien and 1/2 cup cooked veggies. Fruits are in the 3rd week of transition. You might want to go onto optifast.com and see how optifast runs the program so you can ask questions if you feel the need to of your clinic. Normaly optifast is 5 shake 800 cals a day for 12 weeks and then transition. Though a friend of mine is just starting up next week and it is 6 mo's of full fast and then transition. And she is going to the same clinic I went to Kaiser Pernamente. Good luck in your program. It is harder to do the modified plan vs to do full fast. Kind of nice to have food out of the picture for awhile. Nice not having to make decisions.
