I have done Optifast in the past and have great luck with it. I lost 86 pounds in about 6 months. I lost 55 pounds in three months and the last 30+ pounds took a while. Unfortunately, the backlash of Optifast is you have to learn to eat better for a lifetime. But, it is the best for losing weight quickly. GOOD LUCK
Did you do the 70 or 800??

Many years ago I lived in Springfield and Fairfax hospital had an optifast program over in Annandale. It was quite good.

I try to think of the program in this way. It is cheaper than what I would spend on food and loads cheaper when I think about the health impact. Cheaper to be healthy which is more likely when I am thin than when I am big.

It is not easy to stay on plan because everything attracts me. I can just walk into the school cafeteria for my lunch duty and things call my name. Then I get on the scale and of course I expect a miracle of at least 10 pounds lost per week. ha ha ha

I have to get ahold of myself and my expectations and say what you said, "Be patient."

Through this website we can support each other and that helps a lot because regular people do not know what we are going through.

hang in there because you are so worth it.

I'm glad you are going to the doctor and can talk to him/her about it. I have not experienced the nausea and vomiting. It is worth getting it checked out. Another woman doing Optifast with me many years ago experienced that but she turned out to be pregnant.

Anyhow good luck and hope you feel better real soon.

I loved weight watchers. The flexibility was tremendous. Every food is assigned a points value. You get a budget of daily points and then a weekly budget of bonus points to spend however you want.

it is the most flexible plan I have ever enjoyed being on. You can eat anything as long as you count the points.

I am going to do it when I finish optifast.

You can get all the information at the first meeting. Buy a points calculator and then do the plan on your own or you can keep going weekly depending upon what you want. You can also do it online but my internet speed is too slow to support the online site.

Happy dieting and please keep posting so we can enjoy your progress.:-) On days when I lose nothing it makes me feel good to read that others have lost weight because then I know soon it will be my turn to lose.

Hi Michelle,

Wow that is fantastic. Are you able to see the difference?

For me I am finishing week 11 and had 2 days off plan when I was visiting India. Weight loss total as of end of week 10 was 50.2 pounds. But I am still very obese at 226.6 pounds.

I really do not see the difference in me but can see it in the clothing. The next 20 pounds down should make a big difference in me I hope.

Let's all keep going until we reach goal and then follow the program for maintenance. I think this is a very easy diet after one is on it for about 5 days. I have less hunger with this diet than with any other I have tried and most days I am not hungry at all.

Hi Noona,

Optifast is expensive for sure.
There are many good ways to lose weight out there and I think it is just finding what works best for you.

30 pounds is not so bad. Keep going and soon you will be amazed at your body's ability to lose weight.

For me I seem to stay fuller longer when I eat a lot of protein and unprocessed foods. I read an interesting study that showed overweight people who ate their largest meal as breakfast lost significantly more weight than others who ate dinner as their largest meal even when both groups at the same total number of calories. As a result I have moved more calories to breakfast to try it out. I figure it can't hurt.

Also having clear soup with each meal is helpful. My friend who is a dietician told me this. I throw in a few low carb veggies like cabbage to make it more substantial.

Glad to hear you are doing ok and hanging in there with the weight loss. It is a journey, isn't it.

Bye for now,
Kay

After reading everyone's weight loose - I'm going at a much slower rate. Week 8 and down 23 lbs. but feel good. Will admit I eat noonce a day - very low cal usually under 400 calories. I may be going slow, but having one meal a day is more realistic for me.

kay,

having soup before you eat is good Idea I have tried that and by the time you finish your soup you don't feel that hungry...

I didn't loose anything last week, so for me is going very slow as well but I will not give up. I give up in everything fast :

my doctor told me my body went starving. i was exercising a lot and not eating enough food. that is why the result wasn't good. I am hoping this week to loose at-least 2 pounds. good luck everyone.

It is hard because the optifast drops your metabolic rate since it is very low calories. That is why the optifast people say you must limit your exercise while on optifast.

weight loss is hard work no matter what but we are so worth it. Hang in there!

I wish I could also lose 2 pounds a week. I have taken a 2 week break from optifast and gone up 4 pounds. am gong to restart optifast tomorrow for the next 12 week. It is hard to get it started but once underway I can run on auto pilot.:-)

Good luck to you in your weight loss.

Kay, I love Optifast but once you don't take it you gained right away. Also they don't me not to workout and need to cut down. for me I can not believe that I workout everyday and have more energy. I don't want them to tell me to cut down.
not to worry we are getting there one of my co-worker lost 20 pounds in 1 year. when i look at her i fell I shouldn't give up...

Good Luck too :)

Hi,

I agree about the Optifast, when you come off if you are not very careful the weight can return really quick. As quick as it was lost if not faster in my case.

I do think I often make the mistake of looking at weight loss as being something that should happen fast. Mainly I do this because I am tired of being so very very big. I am reminded everytime i fly home for vacation. It is humiliating to be crammed into a seat. When I began this Optifast I was too big to be able to clean myself properly without a shower. Now it is no issue. I seriously could see myself as being one of those 1000 pound people laying in the bed. This stark reality has motivated me in ways that vanity never could. Also had an ortho doctor tell me if I did not lose the weight I would be wheelchair bound in 5 years due to my joint issues. That would be no quality of life.

Basically what matters is getting the extra weight off. How slow is not an issue. Great that your colleague lost 20 pounds. I would like to lose 20 pounds and do it 5 times.:-) Then it would be 100 down leaving me at 126 instead of 226.

If we hang in there the weight will come off. Eventually. However we are going into the tough season of the year where people seem to eat with wild abandon. I envy those who can do it and not gain weight.

I think the optifast was a poor fit for you and you are lucky to find out so soon. That way you can find a different plan and still make your dreams come true.

Let's check in 1 month's time and see how we did. I am going to make my goal staying on the plan rather than actual pounds lost. That way I know I can be successful each day.

Bye for now,
Kay

I just finished week 15 of the Optifast 800 program and the first week of transition. I started out at 277 - and last night weigh-in was 208.8. Still a ways to go to 150, but I am so thrilled with this program. I'm in the Greenville, SC program, and could not be more pleased. Finally a program that worked for me. The key - stay on schedule with meals and walking 10,000 steps a day.
Hi Grandma,
I too am in the Greenville area and am starting the Optifast program here. My first full day will be on Monday of this week. I purchased the sample pack just so I could see how everything tastes and so far so good. Not a big fan of the shakes that you have to mix up but other than that everything tastes good. I am at 242.6 lbs now and my goal weight is between 136-140. Wish me luck.

I live in Florida and have been on the program one week, I am excited as I want to do the 18 week program and then transition into a plant based diet,,as I have heart issues. The Dr that I go to practices regular medicine and only has three patients ont his program. He offers it as he offered it for his Dad and he lost a lot of weight. I wm going to follow through and when you follow thru on any diet you will lose.
