I haven't posted for a few days but it sounds like everyone is doing well!! Today is day #9 and I've lost 9.5 pounds so far!! I have stayed 100% on the shakes only drinking plenty of h20 and lite exercising 4x per week. I received my shipment of vanilla shakes today, and mixed my first one with peach mango crystal lite..delicious!! The season in Ohio will be changing to fall soon..tomorrow only high of 69 degrees and the leaves are beginning to turn Orange. This is my favorite time of year however It makes me want to fix chili and eat Carmel apples..oh well!!

Rhonda - I was on Optifast 6 years ago and kept the weight off for almost 4 years. It wasn't that the plan didn't work, it was that I got lazy in doing what was necessay to keep it off. I stopped exercising and didn't watch what I ate. So, now I'm back on it and hope to drop 50 lbs once again and this time keep my head screwed on right for long term maintenance.

Hey bonnie I think you and I both started our optifast plan at about the same time..I may be a day or two ahead. Today is day 10 for me. Sounds like you are motivated and on the right track! I find that drinking diet nestea green tea helps my hunger mid day. I have 40 more pounds to go against a goal of 50. My short term goal is to be down a total of 20 by oct. 10th and Im feeling week on my way. Some days I get a little depressed and feel weepy..lol I'm thinking it's hormones!!! I'm trying to get creative with shake recipes to fight off boredom with eating the same thing everyday. Today I mixed vanilla with cold black coffee, a splash of vanilla extract and a tsp. Of stevia with ice..yummy! I also mixed vanilla with a can of diet Orange soda and that was great!!

My actual favorite was vanilla powder with pumpkin pie spice. But I found the longer I was on the plan the less "help" i needed. I can now drink all three flavors with no added spices. Every now and then I'll mix my vanilla powder with a cup of coffee. It's yummy.

So many ways to use the Vanilla powder. I use the sugar free liquid flavorings you find in coffee section of store. Or a can of diet root beer with the vanilla shake is like a float! Yum. I like to mix Walden Farms Chocolate Syrup (all calories free; sodium free, everything free) and have it iced or hot with a tsp. of instant coffee in the morning. I also take 1/2 pkg. of sugar free jello and dissolve in a couple T. of hot water and than add water and van. powder pk. and blend well. Refrig. and I have that while watching TV for my 8pm shake. Yes, it's about 20 calories for the jello - but worth it.

Hi,
I just made an appointment at for a weight management program that uses optifast and am excited to start the program, sadly I have 6 weeks until my appointment because they are so booked. Any suggestions on how I can prep for the program? I plan to start getting back into a moderate exercise routine over the next 6 weeks so that I at least have a foundation for when I start the plan. Otherwise I am not sure what else I can do besides clean out my pantry and fridge and deep freezer by eating foods I have at home.

Hey Vonda:
I'm on day 8 - so were real close. I'm right with you on weight as well - looking to loose at least 40 lbs. First week I lost 6 and I know it's going to slow down. Don't be depressed - we're all feeling the same way I think. Thanks for the suggestion of the Green Tea - I'll try it.

Hi Sheri~
Glad to hear Dad is doing better. Email me soon. For some reason the Green Tea is helping with taking hunger pains away. However, it's 270 mg of sodium per 16 oz.

One way that I have found to keep up the water without having to resort to diet drinks (the fake sugars don't agree with my stomach) is to drink seltzer water (you can even find some with flavorings but no sugar- fake or otherwise). They give the carbonation without the caffeine or fake sugar or calories, some are even low sodium if you need to be concerned with your sodium intake.
Remember that hormonal changes, water intake, stress and such can affect what the scale shows, but measurements don't tend to change with those things, so I would definitely invest in a tape measure that you can do yourself and track that. I have lost about 9 inches off my waist and about 12 off my hips. I get more excited about those measurements changing (though they don't always drop every week) than I usually do when I see a pound or so comes off the scale.
Tammy, the dizziness does go away, faster for some than others. I hope you can get back to the gym, but remember you don't have the same amount of fuel to expend, so go back at a steady pace, not all at once (I made that mistake).
The biggest thing is to keep at it and remember that you can keep it off if you recognize that you cannot go back to the way you used to eat. I finished transition and realize that I have to remind myself every day (especially when I am invited out to eat) that I have to be more aware of what I am eating, that if I want to eat anything I used to, I have to have much less of many of them, even to the point of getting a to-go box when my meal comes and putting half my meal in it immediately at restaurants.
Keep at it and you will get there. Remember, if you do what you have always done, you will get what you always got. You can't expect a different outcome if you don't change something.

FDB125, you can start by increasing your water intake, but be aware that the usual loss most people get their first week on the program you will likely not have as much of because you will have already lost some of the water weight.
I think that you should monitor your caffeine intake since it is a diuretic. My program actually told us to limit ourselves to 2 caffeinated beverages a day.

Thanks everyone for sharing the delicious recipes..I must say I'm thrilled I bought the vanilla powder because there's so much you can do to it to "spice" it up. I only lost 1.5# on week two but that's a grand total of 10# in 2 weeks so I'll take that!! I bought some benefiber to add so maybe that will help :-) I've been doing lots of yard work in the evening and I find that if you find something to preoccupy your mind, then you don't think about eating solid food!! I hope everyone is doing well and looking forward to a new wardrobe!!! Have a great day team!

I agree with Vonda - staying busy is my best tip. I did buy Luna energy bars - very close to the Optifast ingredients and calories and have one every other day in place of shake. Two week and 9 lbs down. It's a process. Have a great day!

Yes, staying busy is a good thing. I used to bring crocheting with me when people would want to go out, that way I could enjoy the company and keep my hands busy. Also making sure you drink a good sized glass of water about 20-30 minutes before you are going to eat/drink is always helpful, it tricks you into feeling full. I definitely needed to add fiber for the filling feeling it give as well as regularity. I like Konsyl since it is pure fiber, so you have to take less.
Good luck and keep at it!

I haven't had any problem so far with stomach pains and today is day #22 shakes only. I have heard that sometimes women have dinner menstrual pains while on optifast and there's been discussion about increased chance of gallstones. If you don't feel better, I'd get a doctor's advice! Hope you feel better
