How long is each phase suppose to be?! I'm confused :(

Almost hit 50 lbs today, 0.2 to go, then 4 more to have lost 20% of my original body weight!

Sanaz,
It is a bit of a gray area on exactly how long the phases are. I was told originally by the staff at the center I go to that I could only stay on Optifast complete meal replacement for like 20 weeks, but as I am getting close to that, it doesn't appear that they are going to stop me at that point since I have weight to lose still. Many of the websites give conflicting information, sadly. I am sorry I can't be more helpful.

I hope everyone is doing well.

Amy, give it a bit longer, the tiredness and hunger pains do go away. Make sure you are getting your water in as well.

Julie, good job with the 1.5 kilo, any loss is good. Keep it up and I hope the surgery goes well.

I hope to hit 50 lbs lost and then some tomorrow. I am at 49.8 lbs, and I just can't bring myself to say it is 50 yet, though everyone keeps saying to just round up. I will be seeing some of my family tomorrow that hasn't seen me since I started this (except in pictures), so I hope to shock them thoroughly!

Keep it up everyone! Take one day at a time! Have a great Easter as well to all that celebrate it, I am hoping to resist all the candy I know will be given to the kids.

I am on day 5 of optifast 800. I have felt amazing. I'm never hungry. I drink one shake every 3 hours from 8am to 8 pm. And i drink a minimium of 64oz of water and take fiber daily. I have only had a cherry tomato, pepper, and pickle since i started. I had headaches the first day but they went away with asprin and water. I was told not to exercise in the first week and not more than one hour a day thereafter. I'm not weighing myself at home I will wIt for my meeting on monday. I definately would recommend this program to anyone but do it through a doctor because if not done correctly it could make you sick. In my program we are all give. Stress tests in the first few weeks to make sure your heart is able to do the program. Also they have meetings you can go to for free for a year after you finish to help keep you on track and keep the weight off good luck everyone

I hit 55.6 lbs lost last week. The staff are checking with the doctor to see if I am allowed to continue past the 20-24 weeks they typically allow.
Having trouble with cravings lately, but I think that is due to stress.
Keep it up everyone!

I went on optifast for 3 weeks and lost 12 kilos, that's around 26 pounds. I have been eating normally for two months now and even indulge in some chocolate and I haven't put a single pound back on. I have started optifast for round two to lose another 10 kilos (20 pounds). Then I will be at my goal weight of 62 kilos! Optifast really DOES work, you just need to follow it EXACTLY as directed or it will not work. No cheating. Good luck!

Hi Nichaud,

WOW! That is incredible! Just curious to know if you're male or female and your height - is always great to find someone of similar stats to you, and know what is achievable. I started Optifast and did it to the tee for 5 days and lost 3.5kg and was then made redundant from work and fell off the wagon and can't get back on. I was sunbaking at the beach today and two little girls stopped, looked at me and said "that lady is really fat".....so I think I've found the motivation I need to start again.

I am just starting..day 2. I am doing shakes, one bar, and one meal a day. So far not too bad. No true cravings and the shakes really fill me up. I'm surprised I'm not having a harder time. I hope this works for me. Are most of you doing all optifast or optifast with a meal? I have at least 50 lbs. to lose.

I do a bar for breakfast (with morning pills), shakes during the day then meal (healthwise) at night, unless I need something more solid in my stomach, then I have a bar or meal. I try to drink enough water to help fill me up as about 1/2 the time I don't feel full after a shake. I have also had to increase my fiber intake through supplements like "Konsyl" fiber that my GI recommended.
I am down 61.4 lbs, 2+ pant sizes (5'9" female) since November.
Keep at it and good luck!

I am thinking of buying optifast from Ebay. Do you have to belong to a program also or are any of you doing this on your own???

Stick to it. Be honest with yourself. Are you adhearing to the diet exactly? If you aren't exercising at this point...you need to start. If you are exercising start doing a little more cardio, start challenging yourself a little more. Make sure you are drinking water and not diet sodas. All these things factor in to how well the diet works. I work at a clinic that uses this program and I see it work for many people.
I'm only on Optifast800 w/ a Dr.'s guidance for 5 days, losing 7 lbs! If I were you I would get your thyroid checked via blood testing. You should have lost at least 2 lbs a week = 4 lbs in 2 weeks. I wish you the best of luck.

I am currently on 70 kilos , and want to lose about 20. Im only 18, and just can't seem to lose weight. I want to know if this would be okay for me to do, because everything I've researched says its only for obese people .

Sarah this diet IS for obese people. You are not obese. This is a difficult diet and should always be monitored by a doctor at all times. Here in the USA they wont even put you on this diet if you dont have at least 50 lbs to lose. Please don't do this your 18 and can take this weight off by eating and exercise. Talk to your doctor about something like that. This diet can cause a lot of problems medically if not monotored. please stay safe and be careful in how you lose weight. And best of luck!!!!

Day 2 - Just chugging along. Yesterday went well. I've been here before though, and so I know what to expect. The first 3 days are the most rough. I was previously about 450# and I dropped down to about 250#, and gained the weight back slowly over a few years.

And Sheri, you are right, this diet is for obese people. It was actually designed for REALLY obese people originally, like people with BMI's of over 50. Then slowly, Optifast (nestle) realized it could be helpful to others (as well as profitable!). I've always thought Optifast should only be used for those with BMI's over 35, and only until a BMI drops below 30. I think the journey from 30 to 25 should come through normal foods. That's just me though, I know everyone has a different view. Sounds like in the USA they have it figured out though (need to have at least 50 lbs to lose).

Are you still on the diet Sheri, or are you on maintenance? How is your journey going?

Sapientia et Veritas,

Yes, you are confused.

Obesity is caused by an addiction. Just like liver failure is caused by alcoholism, lung cancer is caused by smoking, various illnesses caused by drug addictions, and ruined families caused by gambling addictions.

Anyways, this thread isn't about debating obesity. I may be fat, but your reading comprehension is poor. Perhaps you should go and "troll" somewhere else. Besides, it's been proven that those who verbally assault/criticize people with faults (addicts, homeless, obese, poor, etc.) are actually generally unsuccessful people in real life who are angry and choose to take out their frustration towards the world.

Your advice to me might be to lose weight - my advice to you is to grow up, and start enjoying your life, and introduce a little compassion into your existence.
