I've been doing the modified fast of 3 shakes and a small meal which is the equivalent to 5 shakes and no food. I'm excited to have a jump start on the new year. I just want 2 weeks under my belt then it's auto-pilot! Great job WE CAN DO THIS!!!!!!

Hey, everyone! I went on optifast December of 2009, lost the 60 lbs I needed to lose. I am an avid exerciser. So after I came off the liquids, finished the program, I had done good staying at goL weight until I had a surgery last August. I was out of exercising for 8 weeks. i resumed running, working out, etc. but also resumed bad eating habits. Since then I have regained 25 lbs. Unfortunately, finances are where I just canNOT go back to a doctor supervised program again.
For anyone who might can help....my question is about restarting and the exercise. I am enrolled in 2 half marathons and 4 5k runs over the next three months, which requires a LOT of conditioning runs. I want very bad to get this weight back off, and of course, quickly! I know it can be done with optifast but with me running and burning 4-500 extra calories every day, will the calorie deficit bee too much to be healthy and also to make it through 13.1 miles when I need to!?! Do you suggest a form of the modified plan, or full plan quickly and then go back to food? I am extremely discouraged I've let myself get back to this!! I know better. But as our income and expenses get tighter every month, it gets a LOT harder to feed my family eating healthy!

I had gall bladder sludge when I was 29 weeks pregnant with my second child. I always say the baby squashed it. My surgeon who is in the top of the field said once a gall bladder is broken its broken and better off out. My sludge was seeping into my pancreas also. Pregnancy and gall bladder episodes living in a small town was awful! It was removed when I was 36wks 6days after I was stitched up from a c-section. I don't know if some of the pains I have are anxiety or lack of gall bladder. I had cushings disease so I'm currently using optifast to try and get under the weight I was when the tumor took over. I'm hoping having no gall bladder won't be an issue

girls, please don't let the above "poster" keep you off this board! This is NOT his forum!! I say "his", because it's usually some man doing this. I hope everyone is doing well on their journey. I have had a hiccup or two, but getting back on track. The only time you will see obstacles is when you take your eyes off the goal!!!! Pull yourselves together, you can do this!!!!!!!!!!

I agree Mary. Have just gone back on Optifast after having a break out over christmas here in nz, eating anything and everything and guzzling soft drinks in our 27 degree heat. Onwards and upwards, had a friend text and say she was calling in with cake and i said, can you make it fruit instead, now that is willpower, ha ha.

I am on day 6 of Optifast. This is my first time on Optifast and I have to say this first week has been pretty hard. My goal is to lose 60 pounds and keep it off.
Unfortunately I gained 75 pounds with my twin pregnancy. I lost 45 pounds after delivery but still hung on to 30 pounds. I got pregnant with my 3rd and gained 50 pounds and lost 20 after delivery. So here I am, 60 pounds overweight and desperate to get this baby weight off, the youngest is 2.
I am looking forward to next week when I can do mild exercise and go to Yoga. Hoping this will not increase hunger. Does it? I am finding hot tea helps my appetite.
I haven't gotten on the scale yet and am going to weight until weigh in. Hoping for my goal.

Day 1 optifast journey. Thought I could do the full fast .....sadly , I had to have a small meal. Will I still be successful taking in 2-3 shakes per day and one small modified card type meal ? I am 210....wanting to get to goal weight of 145.

Hey Lorraine, I am also in NZ and am at desperation point! Tried every "diet" under the sun. I need to lose a huge amount of weight (240lbs/118 kgs) we don't appear the have the clinics and support that other countries have, or do we? I know you can buy the products here but not sure about program advice etc. what did you do?

Hello all, I did Optifast 800 3 years ago and lost 120 lbs in 9 months. I LOVED the Optifast diet and think it was the easiest diet I had ever done to lose weight (after the first week of course). Unfortunately, I never went through the transition period and went straight to eating anything I wanted more than not. Doing that, gave me gallstones, sent me to the emergency room a couple times and I had to have my gallbladder taken out in January 2012. Fortunately, losing weight has never been my problem, it's always been the maintenance part. I am starting this Optifast journey again on Monday and I really hope I can not only stick to it the second time around, I hope i'm able to go through the whole transition phase and LEARN how to keep off the weight.

Hello all! I hope everyone is doing well today! I have made it through 10 weeks (I think) and I have lost 29.8 pounds, 3 inches off hips, 4 inches off my waist and my IBS seems to be getting better (still have a few days here and there, of course). I find it exciting that some of you are going to help each other out, holding each other accountable. Being held accountable (by the staff at the clinic) seems to be one of the reasons I am having so much success, but I know it isn't cheap or found everywhere. Thankfully, I got in when they were running a special so I just have to pay for the food (which isn't as badly priced as I was expecting from having done nutrisystem in the past). For those of you that have done Optifast before, what else kept you motivated when the food/shakes started to taste bad/don't remotely satisfy your cravings? I am craving cheese/dairy products, but thankfully not protein at the moment, surprisingly. I have cheated only once (other than the substitution that is allowed on occasion (eggs/fruit or meat/veggies) and that was in the first 3 weeks, and I felt disgusted with myself over it (and it was only a tiny corner of cheese when making my husband a sandwich). Does anyone else have trouble with getting enough fiber/constipation? Have a great day everyone and keep up the good work!

I NEVER got tired of my shakes. I did the whole 9 months of Optifast drinking chocolate shakes only. I loved the taste of them and now that I started on Optifast again, i'm also sticking with the chocolate shakes and absolutely loving them. I did have an issue with constipation but I took powder fiber in my water but also had to take a laxative for help. I will say that the constipation was the one thing about doing the diet before that I didn't like but the benefits totally outweighed the negatives.

Same thing on the constipation issue....Miralax is your friend! :/ If you want help in changing up the flavor of the shakes, add in Torani syrup. It's a wonder syrup....sugar-free, 0 calories, a kazillion flavors....yummy! :)

Hi there, I did optifast and lost 40 pounds then my grandma who I took care of passed away and I put 20# on in two weeks not eating. I go to maintenance Feb 5 and I am trying to get some weight off by then I found this blog. I like optifast for the most part, I just won't see a dietician until February so I am on my own until then.

My doctor recommended the miralax, but many laxatives cause me pain. She also recommended Konsyl fiber and after 2 doses of that, my constipation has not been a problem (expect when I get too busy and only get one dose in, but 2 the next day fixes the problem). It takes some getting used to, but it has more fiber for the same dose size as the big names, but it is actually finer than most (except the non-thickening kind). I just chug that twice a day, and sometimes the chewable sugar free fiber when I want something with taste. The new Mio flavor additives have helped the Konsyl taste better. Thanks for the suggestions.
