This is a crock.

If this administration, and government as a whole, was really serious about "bringing a community on the margins into the life of American democracy", the Voting Rights Act WOULD NOT BE A "BILL" WHICH REQUIRES RENEWALS AND EXTENTIONS EVERY FEW YEARS!

IT WOULD BECOME AND BE THE LAW OF THE LAND-PERIOD!

George Bush will say he thinks every state should agree with him. Your state does not have to agree with George Bush laws. You control your state as a voter no matter what George Bush is saying. Yes or no, that simple. You can make your state enforce the illegal immigant laws. Your state said "yes" to this law, and not "no". ILLEGAL IS ILLEGAL IN YOUR STATE. He telling your state and you as a voter forget about the illegal immigant laws. Your state said "yes"to this law. Now it time as a voter of your state you can say "no" to George Bush that simple. He may cray with some other but "yes"for illegal immigant laws are to be enforce. Bottom line.Yes mean yes.

Your elected offical of your state are the who put this country of American in the mess it is in. Bottom line. Your votes can change the way your state is going. Vote your elected offical out. Thay are the trouble maker. Thay are the ones who are the ones to uphold and enforce all laws passed on the books. bottom line. They agreed to enforce the laws for you the voters. Not happening. Your elected offical are playing you for dum. Bottom line. Get after them. Every state has the same thing, trash as elected offical. It's time to tell them what you and only you want. On illegals enforceing of the law all laws. George does not live in your state. He has no vote like the illegal immigant in your state. Bottom line.

I agree. This is 100 percent nonsense; and should serve as a clear message to EVERYONE that discrimination remains alive and well. The first presidential election that I was of age to vote in was during the first Regan Administration, but I've been say this as even as a minor child in school.

Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Regan, Bush, Clinton, and now G. W. Bush, continues to pay lip service to equal and civil rights. Each and everyone of them had and has the opportunity and power to enact an amendment to the Constitution to settle the issue of Voting Rights ONCE AND FOR ALL.

This does not let the Congressional Black Caucus off the hook either. They need to get it together and table the party politics long enough to focus on working with their colleagues at all levels to obtain a Civil Voting Rights Amendment along with other things like Reprorations for the descendants of slaves and the legacy effected by such slavery, and the abolition of "two party politics".

I find that the best solution to politions who forsake the voter is term limits . I am not happy with either party and so I became a member of the libitarian party and as the third largest party it has no power . We as Americans do not directly vote for the president . I belive in America , when it comes to our political leaders I sleep with one eye open .

When do you feel it will be enough reporations? 660,000 white guys gave their lives in the war to free slaves, how many more do you need? Will the price be paid then? Come on, give me a number.. 700,000 dead? 800,000? Come on, you cant be that stupid.
Listen, millions have died during the "dark passage", on plantations, in wars, etc. And "white guys" did not give their lives to free slaves. Are you that stupid?

The Civil War wasn't just about slavery, in fact it wasn't predicated on enslavement. Lincoln said that "the Union shall be preserved at all costs". As a matter of fact, the Emancipation Proclamation wasn't signed immediately-it had been tabled by Pres. Lincoln for over a year.

And you want to talk about white guys giving their lives? Do you know who Chrispus Attucks was?

You want to talk about white guys giving their lives? We don't want your lives; your deaths serve no purpose us. You can't bring back Emmitt Till, Medger Evers, Martin L. King, and a host of others who were murdered for being blessed with an abundance of melanin. Your deaths cannot heal the brokeness of a people who were tarred, feathered, beaten, lynched, torn asunder, raped, sodomized.

Your lives cannot give us back our original languages and culture; nor can it tell us what our "real last names are". We were not Johnsons, Madisons, Washingtons, Adams, Jeffersons, Mc Kinley's, O'Donnells, Jacksons, and etc!

Your deaths cannot pay the back wages for building this nation from the ground up-or for the stolen inventions and patents!

No, Steve, we are not asking for reporations in the form of "white guys" dying in war... by the way, have you checked out the military? Have you looked overseas as well as the US? African-Americans are serving and dying in wars, and have been every since we've been here!

Since your proposal yields absolutely NOTHING, for the crimes committed against Our Ancestors and the perpetuation of said crimes, this government SHOULD make amends the only tangible way that will make a difference to its legacy- PAY. PAY WITH WHAT DROVE "WHITE GUYS" TO ENACT SLAVERY- M O N E Y !

Foemer AME , I belive your comments mirror my thoghts on what is wrong with Black History Month . I feel history of all people should be incorperated in to everyday learning . When I was in school I ask the teacher if we are going to take a months worth of time to learn about black hisotry only to forsake it for 11 months . If I may please make one finial point to this post . You may have noticed that all major cities have a road named after Dr. MLK Jr. Nothing wrong with this but I dare say he is not the only black man to deservie high praise and I hope both black and whites will not miatake the lack of Black peoples names on streets or bulding to mean they did not greatly contribute to the betterment of The USA and all of mankind .

You are quite right. There are many unsung heroes of not black rights, but Human Rights and Civil Rights. Every time someone makes the call for this government to live up to the true meaning of its creed e.g., "with liberty and justice for all", someone else throws the Lincoln's Civil War and even FDR's New Deal into the arena which serves nothing more to polute the discussion as these two actions were manifested with the survival of white america in mind.
