Teen-Challenge-The Ministry Of God

Let me just keep it simple and say this, TC is a like a christian boot camp that instills discipline and the love of God in to guys/girls lives who are on the brink of death. I spent almost 3 years with teen challenge and it really was a big challenge for me but If it wasnt for people like Pastor John Macey I wouldnt be here today, Im now happily married living in victory knowing that if I hadnt gone to teen challenge my life would probably not be worth living now.

the TC regime is not for all and most certainly not for the faint hearted. yet as a student (TC jargon for resident or client) almost a decade ago, I can say without hessiatation that the programe works. If you let it.
Over the last ten years, with time and maturity i have thought about the practices of TC and do feel that issues are addresed in a 'one cap fits all' approach and the structure is very different than that offered in your 'run of the mill' rehab's.
this however was made clear to me at day 1, and i knew what i was letting myself in for.
my advice for an idvidual considering going through the programe (TC jargon for entering the residential rehab)would be to have a visit first and talk to someone who knows how it works. then prepare yoursef for the 'ride' of your life.
good luck!

To all who are totally against Teen Challange...think seriously about what you are saying...Christians are the only people trying to help addicts in this country...the Governments answer to it is feed them Methadone!!! What i really think needs addressed here is the fact that this charitable organisation has been led by the holy spirit to do a work in the lives of some seriously messed up people, and they and there family's should be gratefull that the help is available to them! afterall what is the alternative..getting a phone call one day to say that there son/daughter brother or sister was found dead on the street with a needle hanging out their arm!! To all those who tried Teen Challange and found that it wasn't for them, i pray that you recieved the help you so badly needed.
To the mothers who said that there children were mentaly abused and governed by strict discipline..im so sorry you feel that way,but truely in your heart do you think that maybe you were making excuses for your son not to stick with the programme because you didnt want to see your kids suffer in any way, believe me, i know first hand the pain a mother goes through at these times, its painfull to think your child is an addict, then you get caught up in there world of lies(im not doin it anymore etc)then you get to the realisation that they need help, you make excuses for them its a way of trying to protect our kids!! but honestly dont blame those that are trying to help!!! Maybe instead of complaining on a msge board via the internet all those not in favour of the Christian way of helping should get off there backsides and start picketing outside Parliment and encourage the governmoent to take action!!

Reporter Todd Ulrich of Action 9 News in Orlando did an expose' of an illegal telemarketing operation at Teen Challenge in Sanford, Fla. Todd and I have been communicating since October - I was asked to keep quiet about it until the story aired - and Kyle Kiernan e-mailed me on August 10 while he was still at Teen Challenge and informed me about the sweatshop conditions.

Florida's Division of Consumer Services is investigating. The fallout from this should be quite interesting.

Teen Challenge is the most successful program for people with life controlling problems IN THE WORLD with a massive statistical difference from government run or secular run programs, why? because of the Jesus factor. They teach that the Bible is the power of God to change a persons life, and by applying the Word of God to my own life Iv been set free from a 14 year drug addiction that saw me in prison on numerous occasions and almost killed me. Teen challenge is the arm of God reaching out to hurting people like me. The program is hard (the hardest thing Iv ever dun) but liberating.

what a load of nonsense !!
Teen challenge has completelt transformed my life and given me hope again. I graduate in October and have got an amazing future ahead of me, instead of a future of addiction. I went to Hope house in wales and have recieved nothing but genuine love and support from every staff member. Jesus has completely transformed my life and he is the most amazing saviour and healer we could ever know. There is nothing freaky about anything that teen challenge does, it is an incredible orginisation and I thank God every day for it.

You know I thought Teen Challenge was the answer for my girlfriends son. Well low and behold what a farce. It's all about money and playing their game, god etc. If you don't get along "god forbid" you have a disagreement. He was a model student excelled on all levels. He had a disagreement with the dean. He was set to graduate in three weeks and they made it very difficult. He went to court for sentencing and teen challenge threw him under the bus. This is a 22 year old man who had never really been in trouble before and on a recomendation from this front for money he was sentenced to four years in prison. Mind you he was caught with some cocaine (9 gms) but had not been in trouble before and had already done 14 months in TC. Upon their negative feedback he was railroaded. This facility does not even stress addiction its the lord and money. BEWARE!!!!

To Lou,

MN is the facility that burned him. Also note it amazed me at how much "free" work the dean and others received at their houses contributed by students. Not organizations that needed it they got it for their own personal gain. It amazed me that alll the progress he made is for not now he is institutinalized and will never be the same and not in a good manner. Teen Challenge you will be judged by the very god you misuse!

my brother was an original teen challenge convert in 1973 or there abouts dont quote me on the exact year. Teen Challenge, as with any other program in America, is as good as its leaders. my brother was under an awsome man named kermit, who changed his life, in came a female leader who totally changed the outlook,, the dynamic, she was a control freak, manipulator threatened the kids with prison etc. i think with teen challenge the problem is probably the same as it is in the church today ,,, given the fact that it is supposed to be christ based, a leader can assume it is the only answer for reform , a christ based organization can also get caught up in pride, and feel that they are "hearing from god" therefore what they are doing is justified.there are many reforms out there some good, some bad many teen challenges across the nation, some good some bad. as with any ----loved ones need to practice tough love and keep a very watchful eye on their loved one while rehabing. and could i please add, to the believers, PLEASE dont be so spiritually superior, this just adds in the dispute, and clouds what the real issue is. dont get in gods way.

To be honest you sound a lot like the people i dislike from my expierence in TC. You dont like your beliefs or views to be questioned. If people want to voice their opinions on a message board who are you to say they shouldnt. It wasnt for me but i do know TC do good, valuable work. Methadone was my saviour, for all the bad press it gets it has transformed me into a hard working, honest, "normal" member of society with my own views and opinions.

I've seen 25 or 30 people try to come down off of heroin or mixtures that contained heroin (speedballs), and the only two that I ever saw get clean were using methadone. Read what can happen when someone tries to kick heroin using the Teen Challenge method:
