I grew up in resort towns of Colo.and a lot of the west plus U.S navy and have lived in most resorts of the west.!00 shows, plus festivals ,Hahn s peak, parties rallies etc.
Went into true mourning at Jerry,s death. started planting flowers instead of weed lol
THEY,THEM are 18 or 65 they are still here took me years to finally find ME always here or there BUT truly honest took a few years of sobriety ,honestly enough .
I asked a retired motor cycle cop who,s job it was to patrol a park in Wichita ks. that was a well known "doper" hangout in the 70,s
Why did,nt you ever "REALLY" bust folks in that park ???? his response
"because THEY never hurt anyone" ??
honest answer from a hard nosed retired marine/cop lol
The inner honesty/peace is the word we spread.

The Hippie phenomenon and culture is fascinating to analyze.
It was definitely NOT revolutionary in the strict sense of the word. It was instead a massive cultural rebellion, mainly by the middle and upper-class youth, against tradition and against the values of their elders.
It was spawned by the wealth and leisure of the very class the hippies reacted against:
their own parents who raised them in comfort and relative abundance.
It was a creative time [I love the art that came out of that period],but it was narcissistic, anarchistic, and it quickly degenerated into mindless hedonism, sensuality and intoxication. As if a bunch of stoned libertines grooving to drug-addled music were something so "revolutionary". Self-centered spoiled sons and daughters of the upper-middle-class is all they were.
It was the beginning of the balkanizing Politically Correct "diversity issues" that have screwed everything up. It polarized and radicalized many people. We lost a lot of good things because of the counterculture movement. The left wing exploited the idealism for their own evil ends.

A great 60's documentary: Gimme Shelter.
This film shows the true face of the 60's.

"Peace and Love" had little to do with it...

Has anyone here seen Gimme Shelter?

Gimme Shelter was a DOCUMENTARY about the 1969 Rolling Stones tour, specifically Altamont Speedway, in Livermore, CA. It does NOT represent the 60's or 70's. It is one story out of hundred's thousands. The youth rebellion of the 60's was spawned by a lawless, lying government, a war esculated on a lie and a draft to support that un-winnable war. The rebellion wasn't just the youth. By the end of the war there were Gold Star Mothers Against the War, Vietnam Vets Against the War, The War Resisters League, SDS...add to that the Civil Right Movement, Gay Rights (remember Stonewall!) and the Women Movement and you've got a national rebellion. Try having a draft again and see what happens.

I would remind you the youth you are talking about are YOUR GRANDPARENTS. We stopped a war, brought down a corrupt government, raised American society up while raising our families, working at our professions, paying taxes, fighting in more wars started on lies, volunteering, creating and living our lives for all these years. The 60's and early 70's were a experiment in other ways to live. Because of the Civil Rights Movement, America is now aware of bigotry and racism. The Women's Movement gave women to chance to challenge the glass ceiling. Here's more....

Drugs did become a problem, but who was bringing them into the country? Ever hear of Air America? It takes governments to move drugs around the world. Do some research!

LOL...and you don't think this was "polarizing"?

The Hippies and the 1960's brought about huge changes in thinking, art, music and life....and PEACE AND LOVE HAD EVERYTHING TO DO WITH IT! Sorry you're such a cynic.

Them Hippies were right!
