When the author speaks of readjustment of Bangladesh foreign policy, he mentions many countries with which Bangladesh already has satisfactory relations, that leaves little room for adjustment. For example with China, Europe and the US, Bangladesh is already fully engaged at an appropriate level. However it is interesting to note that there is no mention of Pakistan, a country with which Bangladesh continues to have a very close diplomatic relation. That leaves only one country, India, with which there is significant space for adjustment of foreign policy. However Bangladeshi policy makers would have to keep in mind that any adjustment of policy towards India, will have the baggage of relations of past thirty years. Hence for any change to bear fruit, it will need time and patience, may be another thirty years! Can Bangladesh wait that long, for an improved relation with India, that might change beyond recognition in next thirty years ???
