It will certainly be a sour note for the NBA if a life-saving diagnosis is not acknowledged! This should happen!

There is some good commentary about this topic on the new Knicks Fanblog, at www.knicksfan.net . Keep up the good work Alan.

Well, the thing is the Knicks knew he had a heart problem before they made the trade. Donnie could have NOT made the trade until Mobley's health situation was better understood/resolved. However, Donnie (Dolan) was in a hurry to get rid of 2 high contracts (ZBo's and Craw's)- and didn't want to muck that up. Donnie/Dolan took a chance and hoped they might be able to get off the hook by doing what pverne is saying. I believe it was $ and ¢ which motivated Donnie & Dolan - and the Knicks shouldn't be able to get away with it.

They knew he had a heart problem, but were told it didn't keep him from playing. If this was all about money, they didn't have to test him so thoroughly!

@ pverne: so, why didn't they wait (i.e.- why were they in too much in a hurry to wait) until he had been tested?

Yes, they wanted the salary "dump" to go through, but it's mere conjecture to conclude that they expected THIS outcome!

salary 'dump' - not pretty language. not an ethical point of view. guess we agree.

@ Frank B

Is it realistic to believe that the clippers would have waited with Zach and Collins in limbo until these extra test were completed? Donnie had no reason to believe that Mobley, who had started every game this season, was unable to play. He had a condition that was discovered to have been more serious than previously diagnosed. Mobley is very happy for the extra testing that may have saved his life.

Alan,
Rumors about a Eddy Curry & david Lee to the Bobcats for
Boris Diaw & raja Bell?
Maybe Eddy Curry & david Lee to the pacers for Troy Murphy?
Maybe Eddy Curry & david Lee to the Timberwolves for mark Madson & company?
Donnie needs to make one of these trades, it will allow us to not only get two top free-agents stars in 2010, but also some extra pieces, with the extra money saved.

It would be stupid of the knicks to trade David Lee, top rebounder, hustle player, improves on something every year, only getting better, big energy guy.....why on earth would u trade that...he dosnt even have a big contract.(Eddy Curry on the other hand no1 gives a crap about)

It's called "full disclosure". Newsday is required by law to state this in all reporting

The Knicks had the right to veto the trade once it was known that Mobley's condition was life threatening. They chose to go through with the trade as most of Mobley's salary is recoverable in some form...

This is all about 2010...

On your 1st trade, I believe no player can be traded twice during the same season.

Troy Murphy? A 6'10" jump shooter? Who's going to rebound the basketball?

Why you would want Mark Madsen doesn't make sense to me. All he can do is rebound...

David Lee is the best trading chip the Knicks have. I believe they can get more for him, especially at the trading deadline next month...
