Spotlight | NBA Rookie of the Year
Barring a major injury, Seattle rookie Kevin Durant should breeze to the Rookie of the Year award. A look at the race, if you want to call it that:
1 Kevin Durant, Sonics forward
When it was announced that No. 1 pick Greg Oden would miss his first season because of knee surgery, Durant became the overwhelming favorite for Rookie of the Year. Durant proved everyone right by coming out of the gates strong and never letting up. He's averaging 19.8 points and is the only rookie other than Yi Jianlian to average double digits. He's seventh among rookies in rebounding at 4.3 per game and fifth in assists at 2.1. He's second in 3-pointers made with 39 and third in blocks with 1.15 per game. The big knock on him early on was his poor shooting percentage, which remains low at 40.6. Read more
