I'm having a hard time making sense of this considering Nelson's long term contract. Otis call me when you get rid of Nelson

What the hell does this mean for the Magic?!?!? Maybe the basketball genius Mr. Shmitz can shed some light on the subject.

I hope Otis is using this exception to get Crittenton and/or a PF. Work your Magic Otis and finish off this roster to make a really good run for the championship this coming year. GO OTIS!! GO MAGIC!!

"Smith said on July 13 that the club had offered Dooling a two-year deal worth about $3.8 million or $1.9 million per season, barely an increase from his $3.5 million salary last season."

Let's do the math.$3.5 million last season versus an offer of $3.8 million over 2 seasons is not "barely an increase", it's actually a hefty cut.

When I first read conflicting reports of the deal and Otis saying that he couldn't comment on something that he didn't know anything about, I thought that Otis was just being Otis. Then when I read that Rod Thorn was saying that there was a deal I thought that Otis was lying. Then I went back and re-read Otis' quote and realized that he was admitting that he doesn't know anything. Finally, Otis tells the truth.

Does anyone know if you can include the exception along with our players in a trade?

Nice job stealing a day-old story from the New York/New Jersey papers.

I say we trade Bogans and some of the cash for Crittenton. We don't lose much and I'm sure Memphis will be happy with Bogans coming off the books at the end of the season.

Yes, we can trade a player with the exception. I like that we are aquiring a nice little option to keep in our back pocket for a player who was going to walk anyway, but I'm not sure how we can use it right away since we are so cap strapped. And yes, the Sentinel is always a day late,...at least. Nice job guys!

My understanding is that you cannot trade the exception with another player. In other words you cant trade a player making $3.5M plus the trade exemption of $3.5M for a player making $7M. Thats my understanding, but I could be wrong.

You can trade the exemption itself, but not to match salaries for a higher salaried player.

The Magic could use the exception and a first round draft pick to get Critteon. But they can't trade the exception and say JJ for anyone. Exceptions let you trade for anyone making as much or less than the exception.

Outatime,

I hate you lol. You beat me to the joke I was going to say about Otis' words. He is a complete buffoon and if this trade happens his lying isn't going to look very funny to the "fans".

If Otis wasn't a complete moron this would look like a great trade. But since he is a complete idiot my guess is he'll find a way to nix the trade and Keyon will just sign out right with the Nets and the Magic wont get anything.
