I'm loathe to say this, but I actually agree with Rick here. This hire was an odd one.

Who were the alternatives? Casey? Saunders? They suck. Bring in new blood. The guy played 11 years in the NBA, 6 under Popovich, and he relates well to players! The same crap was aid about Phil when crumbs hired him in the late 80's!

Before we go on with the Phil Jackson - Vinny Del Negro comparisons, remember that Phil did some coaching in the CBA prior to be hired on as an assistant to Doug Collins and then was promoted to the head coaching job where he has flourished ever since. Del Negro hasn't a lick of coaching experience and Pax is handing him a ramshackle team that didn't respect a guy like Skiles -- who had a serviceable playing career and made the NBA All-Star team. Now, we've got this clown, who really was no better than Bobby Hansen running a team full of egos and an incoming No. 1 pick ... We can all hope for the feel good story of the young upstart coach who started with nothing and created a competitor, but more than likely with this group of players and Paxon running things, the Bulls and Vinny are going to be the laughingstock of the NBA - Pax has played the biggest joke of them all and it's on us, the fans.

This is one of the few Morrissey columns I've enjoyed. No matter how you slice this decision, you can't get passed the fact that he was not even considered for the Phoenix job. They obviously know him better than Paxson. How is this possible?

Well Paxson has certainly put himself out there. If he doesn't get immediate results out of this guy; it is all on Paxson. No one will be blaming Vinny.

Yet another negative column from Rick - although he is right this time. We fired skiles for this? How is this a step forward? We probably would have been better off keeping Skiles and getting rid of half the team.

WOW! 5 months and he ends up with Boylan Part 2!!! Paxson really is as dumb as he seems! I thought that stalling meant he was going to atleast interview Thibideau. Pathetic hire by a pathetic management team.

You don't hand a team like the Bulls over to a guy with ZERO coaching experience.

Vinny is going to be a disaster.

OH MY I can't believe my ears. This is so stupid, the guy has never coached and he is going to take over a team that was so under achieveing last year it was disgusting. They have the 1st pick in the draft and have the chance to turn it around. I really wonder if Pax knows what he is doing. Well I guess I will have to root for the other team that shares the UC cause they look like they are going to be good this year. As far as the Bulls goes, it is going to be a very long year.

As long as they draft the scorer and not the dribbler, I could care less.

Why does the media want to put this ALL on Reinsdorf??? Granted he deserves part of the blame, but most of the blame belongs to Paxson. He "signed off" on D'Antoni which anyone would have done, then "signed off" on Collins who REINSDORF brought in in the first place. All Pax did was interview everyone other than the only good coach who wanted the job, Avery Johnson, and then hired a guy who thinks exactly like he does. A GM doesn't have to share philosophies with the coach, ask Ken Williams and Ozzie Guillen. Kenny ADAPTED to Ozzie's style. These are the Chicago BULLS, not the Chicago Paxson's.

All Vinny had to do was say those four magic words that Reinsdorf loves to hear. "How high and when?"

Morrissey writes, "Del Negro is 41, and he's considered bright. But the little matter of having never coached a game, even as an assistant, is troubling."

I write, "It's very troubling to me also Rick, considering they could of hired Scottie Pippen for the coaching position, or even an assistant position. The problem with Reinsdorf is that he likes coaches and gm's that he can control, like puppets on strings. He wouldn't of been able to control D'antoini or Collyns so he made it almost next-to-impossible for them to take the coaching position."

Bulls fans are the most gullable people in the world also.. Why would you go and pay to see a bunch of losers trot around the court and lose?

I hope next year the stands are empty, that'll teach them!

Sincerely,
~your EX-Bulls fan~

Del Negro is to the Bulls as Smith is to the Bears.

Paxson is to the Bulls as Angelo is to the Bears.

Man, if only Chicago fans would simply stop going to the games. If the Bears didn't have a bunch of tomato cans on their schedule two years ago, they likely would not have even made the playoffs - let alone gone to the SB.

Both of these once-proud franchises are literally the laughingstocks of their respective leagues. Unfortunate.

The Bulls had 5+ months to find a coach and this guy is the best they could do???? Not only was he not on the Bulls' radar until a week ago, he wasn't on ANYBODY'S radar until a week ago....including his own employers. 5+ monhts of scouring the globe for coaching talent, and they wind up hiring a guy that hasn't even coached at the high school level - let alone the NBA. Scary.

Yeah, he's the next Phil Jackson.....

We should have hired Isiah Thomas. He would have been a good mentor for Rose, and traded the current Bulls roster for the Knicks roster, and all would be well in the NBA!

what makes any of you guys think you know anything about what coaches would be a good pick for the bulls? I guess I am just a little confused about why yall would know more about basketball then people that actually have jobs in that field...

I'm not against giving a new guy a chance, but a guy with NO coaching experience, taking over a team with young players and no leaders. Throw in that they underacheived last year, an are stil finding their way. Until the fans stop buying tickets, the management will continue to do this.

Vinny WAS CHEAP! 2 Mil each year for 2 years!
Jerry wins his game again......The Money Game. Pax will be gone next year because he is being over ruled on hiring by the old owner.
Pax will not do the house cleaning that needs to be done.
The Team will be at best around 500

You have no clue what you are talking about! Sure players win games but bad coaching also loses games! Boylan cost the bulls a couple games last year cause he was clueless as to what a Head Coach does! Let me get this right you wouldn't be mad about having a GM that can't trade for Shit and takes 5 months to pick a coach and ends up with his third choice???

Paxson is finished after this season. Maybe he can take Gordon with him!
