Bulls break pattern, thump Nets

Luol Deng scored 20 points, and Drew Gooden had 19 points and 11 rebounds Tuesday night as the Bulls built a big halftime lead, survived a sluggish third quarter and pulled away for a 112-96 victory over the ... Full Story

I'm a Bulls fan and it is my opinion that if they get into the playoffs they'll be nothing more than cannon fodder, therefore they'll be better off in the long run if they don't get into the playoffs this year. In such an obvious situation the subject of tanking inevitably comes up. Are they losing on purpose? I don't think so but the accusations and this discussion are inevitable.

Pax' biggest mistake was taking Thomas instead of Roy in the 2006 draft. Rather trading Roy to get Thomas - BIG mistake. Thomas' potential is intriguing but so far he doesn't show up every game. He can be brilliant he can be bad. I haven't seen many Bulls games and I have a question - who is the LEADER of the team? The Bulls seem to have a bunch of pretty good to good players with no standout, possibly Thomas some day - will that day ever come?
Roy on the other hand shows up ready to rock every game and is emerging as a leader. When Greg Oden comes back next season the Trail Blazers will rock.
Terry good post, good comments. Admittedly, I can't see the Bulls being anyting without MJ. I think anybody could have GM'ed the Bulls if they had MJ. On the MJ draft, Krause wanted Sam Bowie, not Jordan. Bowie was taken the round before by Portland. It's all speculation of course but if Bowie had been available, and given Krause's fetish for big men, odds are he would've taken him. Then, would we be having this discussion? Doubtful. Would the Bulls have 6 titles? Doubtful. Organizations don't win championships, MJ did. Of course with minor tweaking. Luc Longley. You can't get more minor than that.

On Tyrus, alot of people were high on him. Higher on him than on Brandon Roy who was a 4 year collegian I believe. IMO the Bulls, along with other Chi teams e.g. the Bears, sox etc, don't develop players well - if at all. If you take that entire Portland team, replace McMillan with Skiles or Boylan, I don't think they would be the surprise they are today. Thonas is not a power forward. He is probably best suited as a swing man that needs to develop a jump shot ala Scottie Pippen when he first came into the league. Put Thomas on another team, under a coach like McMillan or Byron Scott, change his position, and you will probably see his talents develop.
