The Magic would have been better off signing free agent power forward Carlos Boozer. He would've come cheaper than $16m a season. Plus, he's five years younger than Vince Carter and a legit 15 points-10 rebounds per game guy. Put Boozer at PF, move Lewis to SF. Keep one-two punch of Courtney Lee and Pietrus at SG and there's the makings of a great team. Yeah, Vince has the marquee name...but his best days are way behind him and he's never been known for his defense or rebounding.

Trade blows. Hedo got us to the Finals. Never going back without him. Mark my words. Hope you enjoyed this playoff run. Ain't gonna happen again. Carter's contract expires when? Just in time to see all the shiny, new empty seats in the new arena.

but boozer gets hurt a lot...

i like the vince idea...he has only got 2 years left, so if it doesn't work out its not like its a long term contract

I don't understand why anybody would be upset about not having turk...sure he made some big plays...but he was a HUGE liability on defense and made stupid mistakes every other time he had the ball in his hands...i liked turk...but there is no way he was worth over 10 mil a year like he is asking for...it would've locked the magic up 5 years for a guy who has been inconsistent all year...getting carter is an upgrade and doesn't make the magic commit for too long

I don't see where replacing Hedo with an aging Vince Carter elevates the Magic anywhere. It's pretty much maintaining status quo. NOW, if Hedo re-signs with the team, then we're talking about a totally different story. According to Mike and Mike this morning, the Magic addition of Carter vaults them to #1 team in the East going into next year. But that analysis was based upon keeping Hedo. If Hedo goes, we are simply in the same place where we were this year. (IMO)

Where are the smart fans? This was a great deal. Good job Otis. Now we're not stuck with Hedo demanding $10 mil. He's no way worth that amount.

Hedo is worth 10mil... look how much lewis gets and you can def make a case that Hedo is better than him. Lewis is overpaid tho. But if we could resign Hedo we'd have an amazing team. Lee going def stinks but my biggest concern now is that we lost the mismatch Hedo brough with his 6'10 size. Him and Lewis gave teams fits. Now we got a 6'6 guy whose 2 yrs older and lost depth on our bench.

If they can limit his minutes during the season so he can stay healthy for playoffs, i can see us wining the trophy! But.....Let's just hope for the best! Go Magic

I think Vince is going to be a perfect fit. And look, no way Otis is done yet, look for some more surprises. It does hurt to lose Lee but in reality we already have one undersized player starting in our back court. also Lee tended to force the offense esp in the finals. it was pretty painful to watch. True he was just a rookie but he also was a four year player in college. Sometimes old habits die hard

If DeVos wants a title resign Hedo and get R. Wallace or MC D.

BJ Armstrong sure was a great player... playing along side Jordan. Scotty Pippen was an all-star until he struck out on his own. Hedo has talent, but he won't be nearly as good of a player without Dwight Howard. Locking him up in a big long-term contract would have been a huge mistake.

Vince Carter, on the other hand, has never played on a good team with a player like Howard. Context matters. Carter is the better player by far, and comes with a shorter contract.

On other point that seems to be overlooked. The Magic received Anderson in this trade, a power forward who can flat out shoot. Look for this guy to be very successful in Orlando playing along side Howard.

Hedo deserves $10mil like I deserve Jennifer Anniston for my next wife.
( years he has been mediocre. One year (last year) he improved. This year he went back to the same old mediocre.

Dear Mr. Diaz, Put in a good word to the Magic that they need a Point Guard. With a decent Point Guard and some luck they can be an NBA Champion.

Stick with Nelson and be the same old same old. Here's a question: If Nate Robinson is 5'8" and Nelson is 5'10", how come Nelson has to look up to see Nate?

You don't know much about the salary cap rules, huh. We can't sign Boozer unless they agree to a sign and trade, which could really only involve Turkoglu at this point.

It's not all about height and age. Ability matters, and VC is far more able than Turk.

Same place as this year? You mean the number one team in the East?:)

Regarding all the comments: Nice of all you guys from WA to be rooting for the Magic (I used to live in Seattle and mourn the loss of the Sonics...). But, on to Vince. He's an icon around here and we are so, so, so very happy to have him playing for our local team. His heart will be in it to win big for the locals. Hedo is great when he wants to be, but not a good fit (I know - I went to almost every game.) Mickael Pietrus, possibly Ryan Anderson could replace him. JJ Redick did phenomenally well in defense during the playoffs and deserves a shot to backup Vince.

People just some outside persepctive. I am not an Orlando fan but trust me this was a great move. I think you can still add a PF in the likes of a Joe Smith or some other scrappy guy type, but you don't need much. VC is a much better scorer, passer, and rebounder....and oh yeah, he shoots the 3 better than Turk also. Now if Jamir is out Carter can run the O with no big drop off. Hedo is not a studd, he's been lucky to be on a team where he is not the focal point. Trust me you will LOVE Ryan Anderson. Makes up for teh loss of Lee EASILY!! 6'10" and a better rebounder, shooter, and passer!
