Bulls' future not so dim

Good article but the Bulls couldn't cut it last year due to their team flaws being exposed. Their backcourt was exposed playing like crap 4 out of the 6 games against the Pistons. Gordon should be a sixth man and they have to get a big guard that can score and play defense. Joe Smith is a PF who can score and how much has he helped the bulls lately despite playing great?
So lets stop talking Gasol for a little while okay! We need a star in the backcourt someone who doesn't wilt under pressure like our current "stars" do. Deng is not that superstar all the bandwagon fans thought he was when they looked at his stats. He disappears for long stretches and is nowhere to be seen when they are desperate for a bucket.
The problem with Paxson is he failed to address this need of a star and was overly willing to let the bulls play well make the playoffs then get kicked out of the first or if they were extremely lucky get embarrassed in the second round. He whiffed on every good trade he was in and completed all the shitty ones and who the hell goes after PJ Brown??? Dude is a twit and everyone knows it.

"The irony is Paxson tried to build the Bulls so these things wouldn't happen. Thus the mantra about character and accountability. Get players who were mature, who had been in good college programs and even if they didn't project as stars, you'd get an honest night's work every night."
Does this sound like Ben Wallace? Everyone say the issues Saunders
"The players, right or wrong, had reached the end with Skiles, Wallace in particular"
Now this sounds like Ben Wallace.
I know that we will never be certain but would these players have "reached the end with Skiles" had Ben Wallace's influence never reached them?
Had the Bulls not signed Wallace, would they really not have beaten the Heat in the playoffs? I know I am biased - never having been happy with the Wallace signing - but it really looked like it was Shaq's age that slowed Shaq in the playoffs, and not Ben Wallace.
Especially since Wallace couldn't do anything about Detroit's bigs in the Detroit series; other than show them how much he loved and missed them, that is.

"Does this sound like Ben Wallace? Everyone say the issues Saunders"
should have been:
"Does this sound like Ben Wallace? Everyone saw the issues with Saunders".
Not a spellcheck issue, a "fat finger" issue.

Good analysis. Strips away the cheap Monday morning quarterbacking by some fans.
If the intention really was to try and get at least two good years from Wallace, then Paxson is right on target--assuming he moves Wallace at the end of the year. I suspect come the All Star break, Bulls management will start to re-tool for the 2008-2009 season. Paxson should weed out Adrian Griffin, Victor and anyone else that has no future with the Bulls. Use Deng and Sefelosha as 2's, Gordon and Duhon as 1's, package Wallace and Heinrich to get a good post-up PF to replace Smith in 2009.
The nucleus of Gray, Thomas and Noah should give us competitive options in the paint.

Coaches don't play, but this game could have been won with some slightly different coaching. I would like to point out a few simple things that the Bulls could have done differently, that I saw from the 300 section of the United Center that might have made the difference.
1. When Ben Wallace was being intentionally fouled at the end of the first half, we should have substituted him right away. Ben is still a great defensive player, but we should also know his weaknesses. When playing a poor rebounding team without a big man with an inside game, we can go stretches with 2 power forwards. We gave up 6 points in the last 4 minutes of the first half keeping Ben in the game.
2. Never play the zone against a small shooting team. I know that it helps mask Ben Gordon's defense, but we don't rebound well in the zone and we were playing a small slash and shoot team. Tyrus Thomas was pulled from the game entirely because of his lack of rebounding in the zone. Tyrus did not do a good job of keeping his hands up for rebounds in the zone, but this would not have been an issue if we weren't playing a zone in the first place.
3. At the end of the game when we were down by 4 points with Ben Gordon at the free throw line, we should have continued to play the offense/defense switch with Thabo coming in for Ben on defense. Thabo was the only player to do a decent job on Baron Davis all game. When we didn't sub him in Davis was able to post Duhon, draw a double team, and find a wide open Jackson. This essentially ended the game. This was a simple substitution that I saw when Gordon was at the free throw line.
I like the new style of play, but there are simple game plan issues with the current coaching staff. Out of bounds plays, in game substitutions, and calling the right defense was where we lost tonight. Nelson outcoached us.
He also has the personnel that fit his game plan. We do not have the personnel. We need to draft a super fast guard that can get past his defender and create, trade Hinrich and Gordon for a two guard that can shoot and defend, and play our young guys (Sefalosha, Thomas, and Noah) to see what they have and move forward. Our offense is too dependent on people hitting tough shots.
I can't find anyone to write this to, so I posted it here.
