Oh please....the purchase of a washing machine is now something we Americans take for granted???? Listen, my parents are Italian American.....both arrived in this country as teenagers and went to work to learn English, apply for citizenship and work as apprentice to learn a trade. This way they were able to get "legal work" in order to support thier family and pay taxes like you and I do.
It's crazy to think we, American's need to bend and aid these illegals anymore than our taxes already do.

Dont know what this article has to do with the San Antonio Spurs but a standing ovation goes out to Mary Farrell. Some of us dont know enough history to understand that the so called illegal immigrants of Hispanic decent didnt have to cross either ocean to be born in Tejas, Nuevo Mexico, Arizona, Las Vegas and California because these States once belonged to Mexico or Spain, but much like the American Indian, the Hispanic population has been pushed out and now referred to as illegals!

The only thing we can control, which the police attempted to do the other day, is to move day laborers to an area that the city designated for labor pick up long ago. As someone who drives East Main Street and South State Street daily, I have had many near misses both with laborers loitering on the street corners and with other vehicles who have had to react because of the laborers' presence. I applaud the police for moving the laborers and I believe it should continue. Personally, I don't care if they're illegal or not. They are groups of men loitering on public property causing distractions for drivers and safety concerns for walkers, and they should use the area given to them. After all, loitering is loitering and their wanting to get some off-the-books work should not overrule the safety of the general public. In addition, I stopped attending East Side Partnership meetings because certain senior members have turned the organization into a defense league for day laborers; any question or suggestion from the opposing viewpoint of a property owner or business owner, in my experience, was abruptly shutdown.
