The trade itself is a good move on paper, even though Lee and Battie will be missed, Lee in particular. But Carter is clearly the best player in the deal, and Ryan Anderson has potential to be in the rotation.
The problem is that it looks like this trade is really:
Magic give up: Turk, Lee, Alston, Battie
Magic acquire: Carter, Anderson
When you look at it that way, it's not quite clear.
Will the Magic now be able to re-sign Gortat at a reasonable price? If so, that could make the trade look better.
One good thing is that Carter only has two years guaranteed left on his contract (plus a team option for a third). This means in his second year, if it's not working out, or if a good deal is available, the Magic will have an expiring contract to trade, which could be a valuable asset also.

Keep gortat at 4.5 million. Sign rasheed wallace for veterans minimum. With howard, lewis, and newcomer anderson we are good at the 4 and 5 spots.
We got carter and jj at the 2 spot. We still need a back up point guard and starting 3 if not pietrus. Either we bring turk back or........?

Vince trade is such a big mistake. He is really old and looking for a place to RETIRE not play hard..... I am afraid without Turk and Lee, Magic is no way a championship contender next year. I don't understand why they PANICKed after the Shaq deal.

Rashard Lewis has played all but 2 seasons at SF, we made him a PF because we didn't have one before. Pietrus is our 6th man, we need a backup PG and a resigned Gortat. We bring in a veteran like Rasheed for PF and sign Grant Hill to our final roster spot.

I love the idea of bringing in Rasheed, but do not think he will take a veteran's minimum. He is going to be in high demand this summer. I am sure he will be looking at getting between 4 and 6 million. The Magic might have a decision to make - Turk or Wallace. Personally, with Vince in Orlando, I think Turk is expendable and would love to see a sign-n-trade with another team for a legitimate starting PF. Looks like Portland has the most $$$ for Turk, but I don't think they will offer LaMarcus Aldridge.

The Magic will not sign Rasheed Wallace. The organization has a commitment to chemistry, control and community; not exactly the words that come to mind when you think of Wallace.

Rafer Alston being discarded is a huge mistake. Nelson has yet to produce back to back season success and was a major chemistry bummer in the playoffs......Alston may be the most under rated player in the NBA. Carter is a great scorer but can't delegate the ball consistantly to keep the offense flowing like the Turk did.....Seems like a step backwards to me..

I am so great I am going to be playing for my 6th team since I am in the league. Man, everyone loves me so much they all want me to play for them!!!

Wow. Getting Carter is AWESOME! But we're giving up Lee, Alston and Turk who were all instrumental in getting the team to the Finals! Only time will tell if this was a good move or not.

Remember rasheed and dwight are boys. Dwight might be able to convince him to play here for mid level. Rasheed is a very good defender who can shoot the 3. Signing hedo to a 5 year deal would be a mistake, in 3 years dwight will be 26 just begining his prime, and vince just has 2 years remaining, which will give us more cap flexibility. We only have 8 players under contract, and otis said we are not close to being complete. Now that the magic are title contenders, there may be a couple quality veterens who would take the minimum.

And remember we are getting a healthy Jameer back, in the playoffs teams constantly dared rafer to shoot, they cant afford to cheat off of Nelson. I love Lee but the reality is with carter and pietrus there would not be enough minutes for him. Now we have a superstar big man (who is just going to get better), an all-star backcourt, and all-star forward, just fill out the rest of the roster with roll players and that is a recipe for a title.

wow! luv the trade for carter and anderson , the magic needed that somebody at the SG to make kobe work on the defense end off the court. Thats the reason kobe kill orlando in tha finals he didnt play any defense and had the energy at the end of games to take over making any shot over our guys cause he was fresh at the end.

Rafer Alston got the "THANKS" that he deserves for his help in taking the magic all the way to the finals just to watch van dummy take the keys of the car from him and hand them over to a legally blind drunken double amputee driver who wrecked it before leaving the garage.
