Or Donovan now. He should have to mow Foleys lawn for the duration of his next contract. What a homer.

Van Gundy? Why would the Magic brass look backward, hiring another retread instead of giving a shot to one of the young up and coming coaches that can bring some life to the franchise?
And What

With 5 years on San Antonio's bench P.J may not be a bad signing. He had to have learned something from Popovitch in that time. God knows we need a winning attitude on this team, especially after the Billy the Boomerang fiasco.

SVG is far from a retread. Guy did great things in Miami until he was ousted by Riley. He was my No. 1 choice in front of Carlisle and PJ when this search started. A young coach doesn't guarantee success ... ask Minnesota or Sacramento. Funny thing about having a Van Gundy on the sideline is that they're so connected to the coaching ranks both professionally and collegiately, it'll be like hiring 10 top-notch coaching "consultants" to come along with SVG.

how is Stan a retread? You Magic fans are clueless. No wonder your organization is such a mess. Stan is a great coach and a quality guy. You are lucky to be getting such a great coach.
Stan a Great Coach? When? Where? How? With Shaq and Wade - he lose!!! Riley took them to the Finals; which they won!!!

So SVG becomes the "top option" merely because they've not interviewed anyone else? Crap, this isn't the clearance sale at KMart! There's plenty of other candidates available, and the Magic need to take their time and do their due diligence. A Van Gundy hire within the next week is a knee-jerk reaction, and is bound to lead to more problems for an already shaky franchise. If they take a look at other candidates like Laimbeer, Barry, Abdul-Jabbar, Rambis, Porter, and possibly even Tomjanovich, and then hire Van Gundy, I'm OK with it. But if they grab him just because he's waving his arms & yelling "pick me, pick me!" and they're afraid of not getting anyone, then we're in for more trouble. Take your time Otis, and do the right thing. Worse comes to worst, you've already got one coach on the payroll. Reinstate him for his final guaranteed year, and try it again next summer - with a year's worth of planning behind you...

Lenny, you are a retard when it comes to coaching. Stan had the Heat ready to roll. Both before and after Shaq got there and they only lost because Shaq and Wade got hurt. So when Riley lost this year,(with Wade being hurt!) Does that mean Riley sucks in coaching now? Bottom line, Stan is a good coach and I would be happy to have him aboard and stop wasting our time with bad coaches.
Rob, you’re retarded when it comes to coaching… Stan is no good for the Magic!! What happen with the Heat under Stan was coaching!!(Even the Heat players mentioned it) Neither Stan nor his brother should be coaching in the NBA… Maybe the WNBA!! We, fans of the Magic… had enough of the bad decision of the Magic; and if they pick Stan, OMG!! My season tickets will be worth crap!! Stan is another Brain Hill… Talk about a Shaq curse…. Next curse; we hire Stan as our next coach!!

Check Shaq's ORtg (devised by Dean Oliver) at .

SVG squeezed more out of Shaq in 1 season (2004-111) than Riley has in 2 (2005-108, 2006-105).

Van Gundy actually put Shaq in motion. Unlike Riley w/Mourning or Riley w/Shaq. It was also Van Gundy who turned Wade loose as a rookie, and then with Shaq, devised the matchup scenarios which Wade came to recognize and exploit.

And last but hardly least, Van Gundy KNOWS the Heat; KNOWS the weaknesses of Riley's system; and for the next few years, KNOWS ALL about Miami's roster and any matchup weaknesses therein.

If the Magic were interest in sweeping the Heat for the next 5 years AND advancing to the conference finals, it'd jump all over Van Gundy's obvious interest in Orlando.

But these are the Magic. The franchise that wouldn't spend $120m on Shaq, yet threw away $108m on Grant Hill and Horace Grant.

Cursed by their stupidty and igorant fans -- what else is NEW?

Doesn't matter who coaches this year. Doesn't matter if Grant Hill stays or goes. Doesn't matter if we get Lewis or Carter or anybody. The Magic is a cursed franchise. The DeVos Family curse. Until a competent ownership group is in charge, we are doomed to continue being disappointed. Get used to it guys. They can sell cleaning products and preach life lessons from on-high, but they are completely clueless and inept when it comes to running a professional basketball team in the pursuit of a championship. Bank that.

Nice thought of the Day! Magic hire SVG who convinces Kapono to join Magic as free agent and takes Kapono 3pt away from his "friend" P Riley.

SVG should have been the first choice and not Donovan. Any hire the Magic make now will feel like sloppy seconds because the magnitude of the Donovan hire.

Donovan will get a job in the NBA and last 2 years max because college coaches are egomaniacs and he will clash with the players when they tell him "Billy this is the NBA, not college, hang on, my cell phone is ringing."

Agreed. Kapono would be a nice pickup at the right price, but he isn't their only free agent. Posey played a big part in Miami's run last year. FA signings will obviously depend on the vision thing by Magic execs and their next coach.

Whatever that is.

Meanwhile, the Sentinel is reporting the Heat might want compensation for Van Gundy. More double-dealing from Riley, who probably allowed Van Gundy to interview without telling him he planned to hold his next employer hostage to draft picks.

I like the idea of hiring SVG as a consulant to circumvent Riley. But Riley would still demand compensation to release SVG from his contract, even as a consultant.
