At some point, it comes back to the coach. That's the way it is in the NBA, more than any other professional sports league, and that's the way it's going to go with Rick Carlisle, whose Indiana Pacers lost ...

Hi Bob,
If Carlisle does end up leaving the Pacers (for whatever reason), perhaps Mark Jackson would be a good choice as the team's next coach. Jackson was one of the more respected and appreciated players in Pacers history. He seems to have the requisite makeup for an NBA coach, excellent knowledge of the game, the ability to lead and a strong resume as a player. I don't know if he'd be interested or not (don't even know what's he's up to). But, the notion seems good on the surface. Your thoughts on this notion, if any?
Regards,
Gavin D.

dont discredit what Bird did as a coach and give it all to carlisle. Carlisle can not do anything, in fact carlisle has struggled since Mike Brown Left to coach the Cavs.

Bird was the head coach and we had a much more mature team.

I dont like carlisles lack of dominance on his players he lets them walk all over him, im sure if he had players that would listen he would get what he wants so either get the right players or get the right coach but right now the combination is horrible and Oneal and Tinsley are part of that problem.

Oneal needs to stop talking about leaving and stay devoted or get out, Miller never did that even when we struggled.

We have some very good role players but tinsley is not a positive on this team and honestly neither is oneal who shots well below 50%, compare him to dwight howard! that is how he should be playing.

Walsh and Bird i see taking action, there is more work to be done. I just believe part of that is getting rid of oneal, if some how oneal wins some games for us to get us in the playoffs and wins playoff games for us in crunch time then suuuuuuuure he is worth his pay but i saw more out of mark jackson in crunch time than i have ever seen in the long years Oneal has been here.

As a big Pacer fan for years, I thought they had the makings of a great team for years. Then the Brawl came. You kind of knew something big might happen with Artest. But you hoped it wouldn't with his talent. But they really have never recovered from that. I would rather support a team who tried hard and were classy people even if they lost then a decent team full of thugs and players who really don't try. I thought Larry would never allow this to happen. Clean house and start over with those who want to play and be model citizens. Trade Oneal for a number one pick, lose Tinsley even if they need to just release him.

I agree that Carlisle also needs a new address. Not his fault but there needs a cleaning that is complete. I liked him a lot. He really has been dealt a tough hand. Much like a guy named Tim in Chicago.

No, You need medication!!! I've watch Cleveland several times and they have Lebron James and sometimes Larry Hughes, otherwise you have Eric Snow at point guard, Donyell Marshall at forward, a used to be adequate center-Illgaukas, and a bunch of fill ins.

There seems to be a look-the-other-way attitude in the NBA regarding the use of pot. I can only speak from my own experience. In my late 20s and early 30s I ran nearly every morning. After about two years of this, I started smoking pot (again). After awhile my splits started dropping. At first, just 5 seconds from 7.05 minute miles to 7.10 then 7.15. Eventually I stopped running altogether. It wasn't until several years later I connected the two (dah!) My point is this: At first the drop off is not detectable unless you are putting it to a stopwatch. Then... well, you just don't care about anything quite as much as you did before. Every time I see an NBA team underachieving, I think that what I would do is move every player I even remotely suspected was a pot smoker and replace them with someone else. Pot creates fraternities... its time to break this one up.

Oden is talking like he is gonna stay one more year. Lets trade oneal and jamal for draft picks. Fire rick and tell larry unproven euro trash and washed up free agents with big contracts suck. Ill take a 12 win season to draft 4 lotto picks in the next 2 years. Think about noah, oden druant and eric gordon on the same team. Little luck with the lotto and trades it could happen. Maybe Im dreaming but Id rahter have Floridas starting five than what we have now.

Ahhhh, the Great K surfaces again, and finally returns to form. I totally agree (ouch, that hurts with it being Bobby K), Bird has made a mess and should go. He has more than enough time, and has shown he was a better coach than B-ball Operations Manager. Move Larry out, let Donnie do his magic again quickly, and let's right the Pacer's Ship. Thanks Bob for pointing out what is obvious, and for saying it straight. Oh, yeah, Coach Rick, he should go with Larry, he has lost the team and does limit the offense from playing with jest and vigor (like that, huh Bob?!). There are other coaches, go get one.

OK first off Oden is going to get pressured like a leach on a swimmer by all these stupid contract adgents. So I highly doubt he stays another year expecailly if we win the lotto and his school wins a NCAA title. Secondly we couldn't even trade Tinsley to the team with the 60th IE last pick in the draft if we tried. We already tried to trade him off last year and instead ended up trading Johnson cause no one would take him since they all know like Just Shoot Me Jackson, Tall Turd Tinsley in reality isn't even good enough to the CBA (Canadian Basketball Assoation) if it even exsist. SO COUNT ON ODEN GOING OUT IT'S GONNA HAPPEN!!!!!!
ever seen that movie Leeches about thoes swimmers on steroid pills getting sucked to death by thoes giant leeches, WELL THAT'S HOW HARD ODEN IS GOING TO GET PRESSURED BY THOES BUTTHOLE TALLENT ADGENTS!!!!!!

Jackson would be a good candidate for a new head coach, BUT NOT NEAR AS GOOD AS OLD REGGIE!!!!!!

Larry Bird and Rick Carlisle are two basketball guys with true HEART! the problem with the Pacers is that players with true HEART are hard to find today... there are only a few players with the heart of the Mark Jackson's, Reggie Miller's and Dale Davis' left in the league... Those who do have that heart seem to be all wrapped up in contracts with the Spurs! even I can see that all the way from here in Australia.

Well that's actually good now, casue it gives us a shot at the Oden sweepstakes as well as lets us keep our draft pick we traded for Al Harrington which I might add I KNEW WAS A BAD IDEA FROM THE START!!!!! For the record this would also give the hawks nothing in return for Big Al. So now there are 2 teams we like the New York Knicks cause @ the 10th pick in the draft they are they hold the last lottey spot right infront of us and of course who ever the Pacers are playing. So now I actually like Tall turd Tinsley, HE LOSES A TON OF CLOSE GAMES FOR US!!!!!!!! And for the record why the hell do thoes guys think they can get a job coaching the Spurs DON'T THEY KNOW THE COACH THEY GOT HAS ALREADY WON THAT TEAM 3 TITLES AND HASN'T SAID ANYTHING ABOUT RETIREMENT!!!!!!!!!!

kravitz--thank you, thank you, thank you for putting in print what i've felt for the longest--tinsley is not worthy of wearing a pacer uniform, never was, was a definite factor in reggie saying, "i'm outta here, i have nothing to prove"--the front office is certainly the blame for this set of misfits they've made jermaine play with, plus they never given jermaine anyone worthy to play with, really, and when they had someone, they got rid of him for an unworthy player--carlisle has his bones of contention but he certainly is not the reason for the dismal pacers, year 4--how disgusting for pacer lifers like myself, from aba days, to see this crap being passed off as a "pacer team"--give me a break! walsh and bird, you don't deserve anything but a swift kick in the pants for making INDIANA look like anything BUT a mecca of professional basketball--walsh retire, bird, realize a GM you are not..

geez, reggie, i don't blame you for getting out of there..jmta
