The difference between Selzer and Research 2000, is that Selzer is credible while R-2000 is a left wing leaning firm, which only a CBS affiliate would ever pass off as being non-paritisan.

I'm disappointed that Melina Kennedy didn't point the finger at Carl Brizzi due to his kid-gloves handling of the latest Pacers incident. A double standard for all accused? Possession of a controlled substance and there's no crime?

Oh, that's right. Melina Kennedy is in bed with the mayor. And the mayor is in bed with the Simon organization.

The losers in the prosecutor election are people of Marion County.

I'm not a Carson flack but this is one of those polls that makes you wonder how WTHR found this pollster. "Will works as pollster for food" comes to mind. I mean did this poll also show support for President Bush's handling of the Iraq war at 90%?

Question: Should political candidates only talk about what they will do or have done or should they also point out differences between them and their opponent?

I for one am tired of the media saying that both candidates are engaged in negative campaigning when they are in fact pointing out their difference from their opponent.

Negative campaigning is when a candidate focuses on petty issues that have nothing to do with the ability to do the job, pulling out someone personal private life (If its not relative) to try to embarrass them, or intentionally lying about the other candidate.

Quit saying that candidates are engaged in negative campaigning, when in fact they are not.

I'd like to know if the TV ad is true. Brizzi gets a SUV and we pay for that and the gas, he gives himself a 20,000 dollar raise? This is why our system is broke. Who gave this guy a 20,000 raise? Mitch? I'm so sick of these politicians leaching off us, and are hard earned money it makes me want to puke. The question becomes: Which one will be less inclined to stick it to us taxpayers. Brizzi dosn't seem to mind taking our tax dollars. I'm sure he needs a big SUV, gas gulping ride to get around. What a joke, and it's on all of us tax payers.
Brizzi doesn’t give himself a raise. The mayor controls the prosecutors budget and how money is spent and the County Council approves the budget and any raise, which was done for most city county employees including executives, supervisors, and elected officials.

The SUV and gas is no different than any other county vehicle benefit that is extended to employees. The higher ranking officers with the Sheriff’s Department all have SUV’s would be just one example. The over all policy by the City County Council and their excessive spending is what should be challenged.

Those plush offices that are mentioned in that same commercial were approved by the City County Council prior to Brizzi taking office. The move of the prosecutor’s office out of the City County Building was not the only move and the moves were because they ran out of room in the building. The prisoner intake and other offices were also moved out of the building to make room for the mayor expanding government.

didn't all of the prosecutors get raises? and weren't the offices moved to make room in the courthouse? and don't most public reps get some sort of transportation funding? i was just glad to see him driving an American made product.

btw: why in the heck would kennedy have peterson endorsing her, talking about the work she has done battling violance among youths? have they not seen who committed too many of the crimes this last summer?

That’s because she isn’t a good enough attorney to know who should be charged with what crime. The police are who dropped the ball in not arresting anyone at the scene of the crime. Carl Brizzi was patient; the prosecutor’s office conducted their own investigation, and then made sure that the right people got charged with the right crime. That is the difference between being fair and charging everyone and asking questions later (After someone Reputation is ruined or the case is lost).

You almost had it right. The mayor and council approve the budget. The office determines salaries for deputies. The State of Indiana sets salaries for Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, and elected county judges as well as the sheriff and prosecutor.

Some clarifications, The payraise was statewide and covered all prosecuters. The vehicle is supplied by the motor pool. The cost of it and the gas does not come from taxpayers, but from the Sheriffs Commissary Fund which is income made from the jail.

I think Melina Kennedy's campaign ads have done more harm than good. She provides no one example of her great leadership and the best she can do is have the mayor talk about her great involvement with youth violence!!! She doesn't give me the feeling that she can do this job well. She seems weak in comparison to Brizzi. For example - the Pacer Players - he wasn't afraid to do what was right and treated them as any ordinary criminal! I belive that Brizzi's work speaks for itself - and who cares about the raise and SUV, when every other elected official (democrat & republican) receive the same perks!

First, regarding the salary, prosecutor salaries are tied to judge's salaries. When Judges get an increase, so does every prosecutor in the State of Indiana. These salaries are decided by the State legislature and local authorities have no control over it, directly opposite of the Sheriff's pay.

Carl Brizzi needs to step down. It seems that he is so focused on convicts and criminals staying behind bar. Yea Yea Yea that is important. I feel that the prosecutors who is voted into office also needs to be focused on the financial support of our children. Carl Brizzi is also over The Marion County prosecutors office Child Support. I find this to be an important issue, especially since I have a case in his office. I feel that Melena Kennedy being a woman may be sympathetic to other women and help support the enforcemnt of Child Support. Instead of lowering Child Support of men who quit higher paying wages and go to lower paying wages to keep from paying their court ordered Child Support. I guess you really would not see my point unless you were in the situation.
There are more issues that the Deputy Prosecutors needs to deal with, not just keeping criminals behind bars ect... no one has every mention THE CHILDREN.

Well until the jail overcrowding problem that the mayor has put on the side burner gets fixed. The dead beat parents (not just dads) will be going home before the other criminals. Who’s to say just because she is a women she will have more compassion or understand how to fix the problem. The judge who is who determined that your child support should be lowered like she did in my support case. The prosecutor’s office fights to get every penny they can, but the judge ultimately decides what is fair. Put the blame in the right place and quit electing liberal judges. In my case I am dealing with a dead beat who continues to quit their job and now is claiming disability and there is nothing that can be done because the system has been circumvented and the judges buy it.

As a new resident in Indiana, I was pleasantly surprised to find that we did not have to declare a party affiliation when we registered to vote. Now if the legislature could turn some of the valuable local seats into non-partisan, that would be ideal. Then we could look at each candidate's record. Less money would go into the slick ads that are flooding the television commercial slots. Currently the political attacks on both sides that are being funded by the political parties serve only to divide an otherwise nice community.

As far as minding tax dollars go - Melina Kennedy is manipulating the votors. ALL public officials on the State payroll receive a GOVERNMENT vehicle, which is the "gas guzzling SUV" and taxpayers fund ALL their gas purchases, including hers and the Mayor. Also, those "plush" offices mentioned in the add are definitely NOT plush. Take a tour and see for yourself. That is one of the most manipulative commercials I've seen in a long time. Quite honestly, it is her way of distracting the average voter from the issues.

I'll bet you will change your tune on this when those criminals that are set free early take your child and do unspeakable acts of violence your child. I'll bet your child support issue won't mean quite so much to you then......

Trust me when I say no one wants to work under Melina. She is another one of the "Mayor's Cronies" and will only be an extension of what he wants. If she gets in office she will clean house like Peterson did. I’m sure I don’t want a bunch of inexperienced attorneys and staff being led by a prosecutor who wants to run a business. A servant of the people can’t run that office like a business because its not there to make money. I worked in business for years and everything was based on surveys and done by kiosks. The CEO was not in touch with what was happening at the local level and the way to do things came from above instead of listening to the people doing the work. That mentality is why nothing really got done when she was a Deputy Mayor.

As a Republican having both Brizzi and Dickerson a head in a growing Democrat area would be great.. So would hitting the Power Ball... Logic dictates the polling firm is on drugs
