Orlando Magic blow lead, lose to New Jersey Nets

Full story: Orlando Sentinel

It's a new year, but the same curse looms large. The Orlando Magic extended its home-court woes, falling 96-95 to the New Jersey Nets tonight despite holding a double-digit lead most of the game.

DH is very good and still improving. Certainly he needs to work on FT (3 in 10 today). Hitting at least 50% we wuold win this game. This a better summary... http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/recap...

They'll be alright. But yeah the Magic are young and soft, and Arroyo will be playing in Miami next year because Jameer's been locked up and the Magic have no money. They'll keep Dooling because he can play 2 positions. I know Otis didn't want to go into the summer with no point guard locked up, but signing Jameer before the season started wasn't a savvy move. Jameer was restricted. Face it people the Magic will have a shot at a championship within the next 2 seasons but there's no money to go get some defense and smarter players. What you see is what you get. Again they'll be okay though.
Dwight change your freethrow shot, whatever you thought was working ain't.

Now we all know why it is not a real good thing to completely jump on any bandwagons when it comes to the success of the Orlando Magic.
A 13 point fourth quarter lead against a team that had basically been sleep walking through the first 3 quarters and then all of a sudden enter Darrel Armstrong. The Magic were unable to match his energy and intensity. It seemed as though they just wilted when New Jersey turned it up a few notches, as has been the case all year. Especially on their home floor. They allowed 58 second half points after holding the Nets to 38 in the first two quarters.
And once again there were 2 or 3 guys who got their season high total in points scored.
It seemed when Carlos Arroyo was running the team there was a better flow to the offense. Also the defense seemed a little better. When Nelson was in it was like everything bogged down and the defense seemed to suffer.
What was the deal with Dwight Howard laughing it up with VC during the game ? Need to be more focused than that dude. You want to laugh and joke around wait until after the game.
The way New Jersey played in that 4th quarter that is the energy and the intensity that the Magic need on a nightly basis. They need someone like a Darrel Armstrong to step it up a notch and get the players going.
Unless they pick it up on defense and show a little more intensity, especially at home, then even if they make the playoffs it will be an early exit.

Another bad 2 & 4 quarters. We need our second team to play better.

Maybe Nelson need a few days off.

Why Dooling did not play.

It looks like Arroyo have another good game.

Why did the coach ask Dwight to stop dunking the ball? Seems we are losing 12 to 14 points from him.

Otis, Get a real PG - Mike Bibby would work considering you have guys who talk about fight but have none.

And whoever said K. Boggins can play D, must be on crack. Gordon scored 39 on him. I don't see what the coach see in him. He is real weak. 39? come on coach, 39?

I'm gonna say it:

I know Dwight is just a kid and has a long bright future, but he needs to toughen up a bit. I'm tired of seeing him get pushed around in the paint by these 2nd and 3rd string hacks who are just in there to foul him.

He needs to develop a nasty, mean streak in him. Stop yukking it up during the games and acting like some star struck schoolboy. And work on your free throws. 3 of 10 is a joke.

"Now we all know why it is not a real good thing to completely jump on any bandwagons when it comes to the success of the Orlando Magic."

They lost by a point and missed several shots at the end, so they had a chance. Silly to not jump on the bandwagon because of one point.

Since most of the comments the last several games have been about point guards, I would like to see Dooling play a lot more. He is a bigger, stronger point guard and better defender. I think he would be the best of the three, if he could get regular playing time. We can continue to complain about Jameer's contract but it is done and it is not so big that he can't be traded in the future, especially to a team whose main point guard gets hurt. After this year it will be 4 years and less than 30M, so he is tradeable if the need arises. I would have waited but point guards are hard to come by. One more west coast trip and then ..........

Hey jooooo, I dont know what r u wacthing lately but I think we're not having any problem right now with the PG position because Arroyo is doing a great job overthere. Or you wants to get a 40 years old Mike Bibby ( Oh yeah his doing great in sacramento BULL SHHHHHHHH. He sucks.) Man stop been a heater and enjoy the game, we lost oh well next time. And by the way on this the PG's did good so I dont what is your comment about. GO MAGICCCCC

A good friend who was at tonights game told me he swears that he saw Carter and an official low-five after a foul. Can any one back that up for me??? If so, the NBA is simply a higher form of WWF. After the Ref gambling last year, I really believe that refs have more control over the games than the players do. But besideds that... Otis should be fired for signing Foyle... who can't even dunk a b-ball & hasn't received a f-foul this year for a paint foul... and that non consistant shooter in Lewis who Otis gave an extra 50 million to this summer. Please tell me!!!!! Otis needs to be held accountable, please!

A belated Merry Christmas New Jersey! I see you were very happy with the gift we gave you.
Itís nothing really. We do it all time. This is OrlandoÖ.home of Disney World, warm weather, a place of fun and laughter. If you donít think so look at our Magic team. We try to make everyone happy.

The Nets found a new way to beat us last night. Vince Carter threw up a couple of shots that Dwight batted back down. Then he started telling Dwight how great he was. Dwight fell for it hook, line and sinker. Dwight was on the bench laughing and singing. I think it was ďItís a small world after allĒ. When back in the game he couldnít make any free throws. Itís hard to make free throws when your patting yourself on the back.

Then we had to play four on six to start the fourth quarter. Jameer was doing his best to give the Nets a lead. He was well on the way when Stan had to yank him to try to stop the giveaway.

Itís only a game right! Just ask Otis. Heís the Magic GM. Heís having a great year so far. Letís see. First there was Billy Donovan. YehÖthat was funny. Then we get some money to spend when our power forward is injured. So Otis says Iíll try my magic onÖ.letís see. How about Cook from LA. Isnít that where the Joker lives? Heíll look good in blue. Has a great view from the end of the bench. Not to much help for Howard from the end of the bench tho. Ha Ha! That was good for another laugh.

So, you want to hear another joke. Otis says we got an undersized, backup point guard that says he would be comfortable going somewhere else. I think Iíll reward him for his bad year he had last year. How about $35 million. Now wasnít that a blast. The whole NBA is laughing at Otis about that one. I really think the Joker is now living in Orlando.

You know the only difference between Bostonís 3 losses, and Orlandoís 12 losses. INTENSITY! The Magic have as much talent as Boston. Only they forget the intensity. Patrick sees all the talent Dwight has, but he canít teach him intensity. That comes from inside.

Oh well. Itís only a game. We have another one tomorrow night. Come on in Houston. Weíll sell a little popcornÖdrink a little beer. Where are the dancers. We look good in blue donít we?

Strike up the band.

I think Iíll just go somewhere and puke!

Ahhhhhhhh........ try the difference in schedule. The Magic are only 4 games behind in the win column. Magic have almost finished their trips out west and the Celtics have just got started. However, they are playing better than the Magic at this point but they also have 5-10 years more experience per player than the Magic do. The intensity your talking about comes with experience. The Magic are learning that, takes time. A series between these two teams in the playoffs would be a great series because the Magic actually match up very well with them. I would love to see that one probably in the second round.

Patience guys patience! I am as disappointed as everybody else here seeing them lose but it's still too early to say they've made the wrong personnel decisions now. I've watched every game they've played since they started the 4 game winning streak and you must appreciate the roster. All 5 starters (maybe 4 at times depends on what Jameer is thinking) are able to create their own shots, that's why even their defense is still bad but they're still able to come back and win games at last. That happened in Miami, and again in Chicago........they're able to outlast them at the end playing catch up because they have different scorer that can split the opponents' defense. However, as somebody as pointed out, and even Stan Van Gundy agreed that when they play at home they lack the intensity. They don't play as aggressively as they're away when they usually find themselves losing and toughen up their defense and playing more focused basketball. When they have the lead the always relax and that's the difference between Magic and the elite like Pistons and Celtics. However this will come in time, if they can stick with the same roster and learn how to play with each other, they'll be fine in 1 or 2 years.

P.S. Lewis may not have scored that much to prove his worth but his presence has done a lot for the Magic. He doesn't have to be the go-to-guy so he might not put up good numbers each night but he's been shooting 3s reasonably well and he's tall and long that he'll prove his worth down the stretch.

A note about intensity and yukking it up with VC: I sat on front row during a game against NJ with Stevie Franchise still on the roster. He, too, was having a good old time with Vince. Seems that VC has a way of making everyone on the opposition feel warm and comfortable and happy. We lost that game. I swear it looked like Steve didn't have the heart to do anything aggressive against such a nice fellow. He was flat-footed the whole game.

It's a trick, and a good one. Dwight was played like a deck of cards.
