Pacers entertaining, but will they make the playoffs?

Full story: The Indianapolis Star

It was little less than an hour and a half before Wednesday night's 76ers-Pacers game, and a locker room loiterer casually made the following observation.

it's good to see you guys FINALLY having some fun and playing like you like each other
P.S. Other NBA posts hate to play O'Neal when he is healthy.
Why? strength, D, and much more athletic than they
He's been hurt and as result overweight and was under an archaic offensive scheme. As he gets into better shape, you will see
"Top Shelf" player that he can be.
You tell em pop and you obviously know what your talking about. Anyone that would call JO overrated can not be taken very seriously.
Go Pacers!!!

I think that their play is improving and will continue to improve. They seem to have the right attitude this year. As long as they can stay healthy, they should get a decent playoff spot.

I'M A FAN OF THE PACERS AND I HAVE TO SAY THAT I LIKE THE NEW PHILOSOPHY THAT JIM O'BRIEN HAS ASSEMBLED IN INDIANA. NOW I DON'T WANT TO TALK POSTSEASON RIGHT AWAY BUT I DO FEEL THAT THIS YEARS TEAM HAS A BETTER CHANCE TO GO FAR. WITH THE ADDITION OF THE EASTERN CONFERENCE GETTING ALOT STRONGER I DO BELIEVE THAT THE PACERS WILL HAVE A CHANCE TO WIN THE 5 SEED IN THE EASTERN CONFERENCE. SO TO ALL THOSE WHO DON'T THINK THAT INDIANA WILL NOT MAKE THE PLAYOFFS JUST WAIT TIL APRIL ROLLS AROUND THE PACERS WILL BE IN THE MIX. GO PACERS

I don't think so, chump. I posted a PURE point guard doesn't average 14.5 points a game to refute another post that he is a pure point guard. The people that you named, while all spectacular point guards, were not pure point guards. Stockton maybe would be the closest.
I'd love to hear who you believe is a pure point guard.

No, I didn't post that only a championship makes a successful season, but isn't that the goal every year? I was stating that simply being over .500 is not necessarily a successful season and sometimes its actually better in the long run to miss the playoffs than it is to sneak in. A team that finishes around .500 or a little over every year gets stuck with a middle draft pick that ends up being someone like (to not pick on any current Pacers) Alan Henderson, definately a nice player, but not one that is going to lead a team.
Or Danny Granger, who turned out to be pretty good.

what you didn't read his post after that, he doesn't believe there is a pure point guard in the nba, I guess PURE point guards don't exist at all anymore, maybe they exist over seas where are mongolian pacer fan lives or maybe the college game has a bunch of undeveloped PURE point guards, I don't think he knows anything about basketball

When I first saw the accusation of racism concerning the mean, hateful comments on this board I didn't really believe it. But with this post I now know I was wrong. You sir/madam are undoubtably a racist and most of us on here don't want nothing to do with that. WE DON'T CARE!!!FOR IT. And your denial will do nothing for me.
Hmm, I guess wanting upstanding citizens who represent the state of Indiana now make one a racist? What do you tell all those Reggie Miller fans out there who loved him and looked up to him? Were they racist when they were chanting “Reggie, Reggie, Reggie”? Face it, this has absolutely nothing (for most people) to do with skin color, but actions off the court.

And let’s not forget, Reggie liked to go out to the clubs too. However his evenings never ended in gunfights and felony arrests.

You are unbelievably naive if you don't think race is playing any factor in some of the fans' discontent.

Because a person can't fully understand the game of basketball by just reading stats and he thinks that you don't fully understand the game of basketball. And he would be correct. Also, BulldogPaul would sound better.
Sorry Adam, I just couldn't resist answering for you, but your point was so obvious. Go Pacers!!!
Adam and Coach

I have watched parts of games this year and last, not full games. Having played basketball and also watching it for many years I understand that stats only tell part of the story. Having said that, neither you or Adam have addressed Tinsley's stats. Should a point guard be the leading shot-taker on your team, esp. when he is shooting less than 40%. Should your point guard be turning the ball over almost 4 times a game? Do you think Tinsley's defense is good? Those are the points I brought up.

The "has BulldogPaul watched a complete Pacer game this year" issue kinda ignores the points I made. Maybe for you the answers to all of the questions I asked is yes. If so, then you are happy with Tinsley's play. And that's fine because we are all entitled to our opinions. For me the answer to all three questions is probably no.(Kidd and Nash are also averaging more than 3.5 turnovers per game so maybe Tinsley's turnovers per game are okay.)

And how many rebounds, assists, and steals does AT have compared to Tinsley. That's what I thought. Go Tinsley, Go Pacers!!!
It's interesting that in my last post I had to debate myself because no one else will on the basis of the points I raised. Mattoon Illinois, the point was not that we want AT back. The point is his stats were better than Tinsley's and we didn't even keep him as a backup. I felt that the team played better when AT was in as well.(This required watching the games.)

You continue to show everyone how stupid you are.

"...this has absolutely nothing (for most people)..."

That's my favorite line of 2007. Let's try to replicate:

1) I've watched every Pacers this entire season (except for three games in November and the last two away games)!

2) Absolutely everyone graduates from IPS (except for 48% of students)

3) Leap Year happens every February (except for for a few years)

Feel free to add your own!

I believe that race plays a factor for a few people, of course. However, I don’t believe that it’s a factor for most people. Blaming people’s disgust with certain player’s behavior on race is a reach at best.

I WATCH THE PACERS PLAY, I FEEL THEY WILL MAKE THE PLAY-OFFS.. THEY MAY NOT BE IT THE TOP, BUT THEY WILL BE THERE AND THEY WILL WIN A COUPLE OF GAMES.. THE UP BEAT STYLE OF PLAY IS GOOD FOR THEM AND THE YOUNG GROUP.. IT FITS THEM REAL WELL AND THAT WILL BE THE DIFFERANCE AND THE REASON WHY THEY WILL BE IN THE PLAY OFFS..

What team(s) do you like? Every team in all of sports has someone with a checkered (recent) past. Every team. Every company. Every church. Every police station.

If the Pacers were the caliber of a 60 win team, then no one would care. Fans of the Colts and Hoosiers have proven it this year (and I'm one of those fans).
