Suns get Strawberry at No. 59

D.J. Strawberry came close to being the NBA's answer to the NFL's "Mr. Irrelevant," the last player selected in the draft, and actually was on the fringe of not being chosen at all last night.

I think the pick makes sense for Phoenix. As with most 2nd round picks, if the players is a bust, who cares, if it works out great - and in this case, if Strawberry works out he could be the Suns version of Bruce Bowen. maybe an improved version since Strawberry has more of an offensive slashing ability. As a former Terp and current Suns fan, I'm hoping that DJ can win a roster spot. With his defense and hustle he should be able to find a role-a la Raja Bell-on this team. If he can improve his jumper he'll be a valuable piece in the future.

I can't say enough of the quality of Phoenix's picks: they picked guys that will reinforce their style of play, not change it. So many suns fans get depressed when we don't win it all and think we need to change the team. With guys like strawberry and tucker who are so similar to bell and marion (defensively) I think this team will be less exhausted and more able to play their style for 48 minutes every game, plus you'll see bell taking more shots when strawberry is out there and marion getting to the hoop more when tucker is out there with him. Hopefully.
