Actually, it was 2000! Backcourt2000 and the Suns defeated the Duncan-less Spurs 3-1 in the first round! After that all hell broke loose! 2003: 4-2 Spurs. 2005: 4-1 Spurs. 2007: 4-2 Spurs. Seems like an every other year thing so next season we'll find a way to beat them!
key word ='duncan-less'... back in 2000, which team took the suns out after you beat the spurs? also, the spurs ended the suns' playoff runs back in 1996 and 1998 as well.

seriously solar, the nfl can't come soon enough.

This is what I wrote on earlier post: NBA players are grown men, their intelligence is above average and they understand the rules, so why not abide by them. Personally, if it had been Tim Duncan and Bruce Bowen sitting out game 5 so be it, rules are rules. The rule in question was declared a rule for a reason and is very clear, so I disagree with changing it.
If you follow the NBA you’ll remember that Duncan while sitting on the bench got ejected for laughing, and though the Spurs were already in the playoff, the game still had some significant because the season was not over and the Phoenix Suns and Spurs were still in competition for the number two seat. Ruling: Tim Duncan you have been imposed a fine and Joey Crawford you are hereby suspended from officiating the NBA playoffs!
So the Suns losing to the Spurs all came about because of game 5? I don’t think so, where were the Suns in game 1, when they were in full force with Amare Stoudemire and Boris Diaw in the lineup? They were nowhere in sight and this is what really killed them, because they allowed the Spurs to take over home-field!! Bottom line and quoting Steve Nash,“the Spurs are better than the Suns in intangible area.”
I take it your a spurs fan, but dont you see the once getting cheated here are the viewers, not the playrs, you go watch these players play ball, im damn sure if the tables were turned and it would have been duncan getting suspended you guys would be complaining about it just as much, the players should be fined but not suspended, now your left with a what if question about who would have won the series, but i know spurs fans wont lose sleep over it at night thats fine I wouldnt either if I were a spurs fan, but why is it that basketball gets more pressure than football or the NHL I mean they almost kill eachother in the NHL and you dont hear any controversey over that, basketball is becoming so soft, these are the playoffs the tempers get very short and its a very emotional game, its kool that they went by the rules this time im just saying how about changing them so we dont have to see the series end with what ifs for next year, because remember what goes around comes around and it may just happen to the spurs and I want to hear you say rules are rules when it does happen.

You asked when did PHX defeat S.A. and I answered your question! You didn't ask who we lost to next, or how many times we've lost to the Spurs over the years. The difference between what happened in the late 90s and now is that we realistically didn't expect to defeat them back then. Shyt, who did we eliminate in the first round the last two years?! Yep, you're right 355s, football season cannot get here fast enough!!

I like football but the only reason I think it gets more ratings than basketball is cause its only once a week, but other than that I think the nba is a better sport to watch, baseball is a nice sport but 162 games!! I cant even stand 82 baseball games even if my team is doing well, basketball yes baseball no, and thats another thing the nfl isnt so long so of course its gonna get even more ratings, but thats just me I dont know about you guys, dont even get me started on golf and nascar.

Yeah, to most of us this is the slow season! NBA's winding down, MLB, golf, tennis, NASCAR (is it even a sport?), etc. just aren't interesting enough. I do like to watch Serena Williams bounce around...I mean play, though!

Hey, but I did watch the Duke/J.Hopkins Lacrosse Championship yesterday! It was my first time actually watching lacrosse and it's actually not that bad. I thought there would be more hits than what I saw but it's not as slow-paced or low scoring as hockey or soccer!
