I don't see any reason to struggle in this game because their clutch player is Yao, who is playing against the best center in the league D12. I still have the feeling we are looking for rest so it will be tight, but I think a win.

The best center in the league, as you say, struggles against Yao. The reason is because Howard is not polished yet, and can not over-power or move Yao to get into his high percentage shot like he does other centers. He will need to develop his hook but he does not have enough arc to it yet. Or a turn around short jumper (which he does not have). He will need to use his quick spin move on the baseline to beat Yao to the basket...it depends on if the rockets play him straight or double. He also has to know when he is in good position and try to not force shots (which I'm sure he'll still do). We also need to have Rafer push the ball. D12 also needs to run like crazy to try to beat Yao down the floor (so Dwight needs to stop complaining with the refs and get moving)...this is hard because D12 gets most of out Defensive rebounds so he is behind.

You miss understand me though. I am not talking about big production from Howard offensively. I was talking about Yao being the only clutch shot producer for their team, and Yao struggled against Howard too. The magic have more offensive weapons than the Rocket's and that's why I think tonight will be a small win. I never mentioned Howard having to have a productive night on the boards, that is difficult against Yao with his style like you said.

Got it. Really did not disagree with you either. Just expanding on D12, who is the best center...but has issues with Yao. I expect a win too, but only if our shooters are on (but thats the case for us against most .600+ team...with the exception that D12 usually can manhandle centers which keeps our shooters open.

This should be a great matchup of size, speed, and touch (Yao) vs. power, energy, and athleticism (Howard). If we had another Rockets-Magic Finals, that'd be alright with me. I'm getting Houston Rockets Tickets from http://myticketin.com/Event.aspx... either way and can't wait for the real season!!

I agree with KGB here. Even though D12 is regarded as the best center in the NBA, he does struggle against Yao. Yao matches up pretty well with Dwight; he can hit the 18 foot jumper, score in the low-post, and shoot free-throws at a high percentage and he even has 6 inches on Dwight.
