It is illegal and yet you see it all the time. They never seem to get pulled over either. A senseless death.

Well, it's not clear that the fellow even knew she was there, or had fallen off.

After all, driving on 95 is an intense experience; and, should one hear a strange screaming noise, one might just ignore it, as one would naturally do in heavy traffic.

This man will be charged with "Failure to secure a load".
The story doesn't say he was impaired or he was aware the woman was in the truck bed or aware she had fallen out. If he wasn't impared or aware then that's about all he will be charged with.

So guys remember to secure your load!!

That's why auto makers should install seat belts in the backs of pickups!

That man in the story is my friend and I think everyone needs to realize that his girlfriend just died. Get off his case.

I've thought it odd that ones can legally ride in the bed of a pickup truck in Florida. Very strange.

Seems like EVERYONE here knows it's illegal. Maybe we should pass that on to those that can write tickets.
A driver can now be pulled over for not wearing a seatbelt; that takes some pretty fair eyesight on behalf of the officers. Why can't they see people in the back of a pickup?
