It's going to be an interesting summer for Orlando in terms of free agent signings, the draft, etc. I don't see them re-signing both Arroyo and Dooling, unless Dooling is re-signed as a shooting guard, simply because I can't see either of them settling for being 3rd option in Orlando, especially at this stage of their careers. They are too good for that. And it may help Orlando to just have a two point guard rotation - having three of them must create a lot of uncertainty, with the way SVG has chopped and changed the lineup over the course of the year.

Then there is the shooting guard situation. If Orlando does re-sign Dooling (and I expect that they will) they will have three guys on the roster - Bogans, Dooling, Redick - who can play the 2, with Hedo Turkoglu likely to see shooting guard minutes next year if and when Tony Battie returns. With that being the case, how can they re-sign Evans? But as the article says, he has been outstanding this year, and is probably Orlando's best SG.

I can see Otis making some moves around the draft, and early in July, to correct the logjam at the guard positions. My guess would be that Arroyo will not be re-signed, Dooling and Evans will be, and Bogans and Redick will be on the trade block to try and move Orlando up the draft a little.

Hey Mitchell, do you forgot PF position or do you think that with Battie back and with Turk and Lewis playing together, we don't need to improve that position next year?

Turk as a starter, Battie and Cook from the bench, the first for defensife purpose, the latter for the offense.

Could this be enough?
I don't really know.

In the backcourt, I'm in line with your ideas. If Arroyo wouldn't accept another year like that (and I can understand him) the better solution is to keep Dooling, Evans and Redick.
I would give up Bogans for a better pick (if we can do a smart one) o for another player that could fit in the system.

I think that all depends on how we will use the MLE.

Evans has provided us with consistent play. The thing is thou, people want to give him praise via this article, but look who he's playing with!! Why do you think great teams like the spurs etc. always seem to replace guys and still be good? because they have that core of very good players that makes it easy for everybody else. Sure evans deserves a bit more money but i wouldn't get crazy, and that goes for dooling, arroyo, etc.

Evans is good off the bench, but I don't think he is a starter. He's just the best (which is debateable) option we have at the moment.

What we are doing is working though. I really can see the Magic staying the course next year with 3 thru 5, but with Battie getting Cook's minutes. Although that still leaves R. Lewis out of position, it still creates match-up problems for other teams. When they double team Howard, that means they have to use a Center and a SF (leaving Turk open). OR if they triple team, they have to use their Center, SF, and SG.

I'd really like to see the Magic work to upgrade the 1 & 2 positions. We are not likely to find an upgrade at 1 that we can afford, so that leaves the 2.

Otis and SVG have done a great job surrounding Howard with high percentage 3-point shooters. If we could somehow get a top shelf PG, we'd be in the Eastern Conference Championship every year.

Playoffs for Cirque de NBA. No comparison to WrestleMania I see, but at least enough people will pay and the TV revenue will roll in the longer they can keep it going. So look for several 7 game series.
As far as the Magic go... the only good thing will be JJ Redick is traded so he can get on with his career and future that he never got the chance to start in Orlando.
Run it down again: Nelson, Dooling, Bogans, Arroyo, Evans. None are of any comparision to the guards on the top 10 teams.
Lewis, Garrity, are over the hill but will live over there quite pleasantly thanks to Otis. Augustine is going to Europe to make some money, Gortat is just happy to sit and be able to buy Keilbasa. And then there's the 2 players...Hedo & Dwight. Kings of the Court.
I'm pretty sure this may just be the best year the Magic have over the next Five years. But let's all buy tickets and keep the NBA in business ok. The starving children need support from whoever their Daddy's are!
Good Luck next year!

I think three of the free agents will be gone, Arroyo, Garrity and Augustine. They'll be replaced by:

1) Somebody we bring in with our mid-level exception.
2) Our 1st round pick
3) Fran Vasquez

I think we're looking for two things in our replacements: a tall point guard, and a defensive specialist.

Besides the three free agents who won't be resigned, I agree with Mitchell that Bogans and Redick will be shopped.

We probably will lose more than we can get. I dont really think the Magic will do better next year than they did this year. If we add a PF that means Hedo will have to play at SG facing quicker more athletic players. So we need to get rid of 2 SG Reddick, Evans and Bogans are all in jeopardy. We also have to get rid of a PG obviously Nelson is staying, so that leaves Arroyo and Dooling. I would say they will stick to Dooling. I dont think a lineup that big and slow will have any kind of success again teams like Golden State or even Phoenix. Lets see how they work this out.. Good luck next year... but still goo Magic

Every post I read, make me thing that Otis have the possibility to work in the offseason in a lot of different options.

He could improve the PF, moving back to a conventional type of team, and this will cause a cut on 2 of the SG we have.
He could improve the PG, and stay put with the rest of the team.
He could find a different SG, and keep the others in the bench.

We're an unconventional team right now, we can head in a lot of directions with only few moves, so I hope that Otis can find the better one with the assets he has.

My opinion? A lot depends on how this team work in the playoffs.
With a good run, is fair to repeat the Lewis at PF mode, improving the backcourt.
But if we'll fail, better try to shake the things up and stop the Lewis experiment, and find a good PF with the MLE (Haslem is still welcome)

Bad news from John Denton:

**********
ORLANDO -- Orlando Magic reserve power forward Brian Cook fractured a bone in his shooting hand Monday in practice and will likely miss the final eight games of the regular season.

Cook was hit on the hand by teammate Dwight Howard and was examined by a hand specialist following practice. He was fitted for a cast and will be reexamined in 10 to 14 days. Cook is expected to return by the start of the playoffs on April 20.
**********

I miss Battie a lot....

BTW, Howard has to get stronger with players of other teams, not with his teammates... he has already caused the Battie injury, and hit his friend Jameer a lot...

I totally agree with this observation, Agustine, Garrity and my fellow countryman Arroyo will not be re-signed by the magic. They need that money to get a PF and on top of that none of them like the way they has been used. So it will be a winning situation for all of them. Also they have to see what will be available from the draft because sometimes, not often there are some sleepers or blue chips on the it overlooked. It will be an interesting summer for many teams.

Uhmmmmmm!!!! Well, I think they may have an idea of what they may try to do after the playoffs, but, they don't want to go any direction untill they see how the players perform during playoffs and under real presure. I was thinking on something. People. Don't you think that if the Magic needs to get rid of some salaries, Nelson should be one of the first ones out?? Arroyo and Dooling are doing the same job as Nelson for less money, for what Arroyo has been saying he will stay in Orlando for the same money, and I bet they don't have to raise Dooling's that much to stay with him.
Also, I don't think Orlando's big problem is the PG pos. Their problem is defence, and some more help from Turk and Lewis rebounding. For me, that's all they need. I would try to keep the team as much as posible as it is righ now. The more they play together the better they will get. Plus we have a good chemistry team.
