Magic beat Hawks in a laugher

Full story: Orlando Sentinel

The Orlando Magic might have sent a message to the Atlanta Hawks, but they are trying to make a much bigger statement to the entire league.

A bit of an article from Terrence Moore of the Atlanta Journal on wednesday nights loss to the Magic.
"Sounds like the Hawks, a legitimate force out of nowhere in the NBA. Look at it this way: The Magic are loaded with an impressive frontcourt of Hedo Turkoglu and Rashard Lewis to complement Howard. In the backcourt, they have rising point guard Nelson, and promising rookie Courtney Lee. The Hawks’ starting five is slightly better than that.

Few guard combinations rival that of Joe Johnson and Bibby. You have the special gifts of Josh Smith, the consistent goodness of Al Horford and the growing efficiency of Marvin Williams. Instead, you had the Magic winning this one, and the Hawks learning a lesson: In the battle for the elite, little things aren’t so little."

Is this guy on crack?? Dwight Howard is an all nba 1st team and a gold medalist, the best center in the nba!!! And when I think of great nba backcourts, Joe Johnson and Bibby don't come to mind. How is this guy a sportswriter??? How does he think the Hawks starting 5 are slightly better than our starting 5?? If anyone has any answeres plz help me out with this.

I was looking for Boston to beat Cleveland tonight, but with 5 min left in the game, it doesnt appear that this will happen.

And to go on to make my own prediction, after watching them play joe johnson these last 2 games. Instead of waiting till they beat our 2 guard to come over and help, he goes over for the quick double team. I think dwight and the rest of the team has learned how to slow down opposing teams 2 guards. And will start having better results down the road.

GO MAGIC!!!

This team is improving in so many areas. Turk's O Game has been consistent (as usual) but what you are beginning to see is the consistent production coming from people like C. Lee and Gortat (Gortat is extremely efficient - 12 boards tonight and VGundy is going to begin using him more 2nd half of the season and he will help in playoffs) We are going to have to learn how to beat Detroit though (If you look, they always have our number)

All the talk over at ESPN is all about LeBron and the Cavs. Their game tonight against Boston basically just made the Magic seem totally insignificant according to ESPN.

Right now the Magic are a half game ahead of Boston and only 1 game behind Cleveland for the best record in the East and in the NBA.

Detroit is actually getting more respect than the Magic with the little winning streak they had recently.

The Magic have 8 games left in the month of January. Five of these games are against San Antonio, Lakers, Nuggets, Celtics, and Cavs. If they can win 2 or 3 against these elite teams and then win the other 3 games that would make them 5 and 3 or 6 and 2. Either scenario would be cool.

If they keep playing defense and maintain the energy level and focus they can beat anyone anytime anywhere.

Apparently the Hawks lost our number. Perhaps the Pistons will too.

When the Magic play the Pistons, and I am sure a lot of you here would agree, Dwight and Jameer need to both ignore Sheed and the on court theatrics. Just go out there and play the game and let him talk to himself.

When Dwight is focused and concentrating on playing aggressive defense he is a force than can not be reckoned with. He has done a better job this season for the most part of separating the Mr. Nice Guy routine and the fiery competitor he needs to be on the court.

For some reason when the Magic face Detroit he feels almost obligated to talk to Wallace. There is plenty of time to talk to him before or after the game.

If the Magic play against Detroit like they did these past two games against the Hawks they will have no trouble beating them. They just have to bring it for 48 minutes and not be chummy with any of the Piston players.

By the way you all were right and I was totally wrong about the Hawks owning the Magic. And like I said in the above comments, I think it's time for Detroit to lose our number and receive a Magic beatdown. What do you all have to say about that ? Can a brother get an amen on up in here ?!!

hey Jim good job jinxing the hawks, i knew that you weren't serious about hawks winning the next two, YOUR A GENIUS!!! Once again we see the magic play with a team that supposly are becoming elite, like hornets, yet like the hornets learned on xmas, its gonna take alot more then just having a good rec to beat the magic. Magic are still getting better, oh yeah dont forget we are still missing a pair of our deep player, although bogans played the last qtr tonight. Look for the magic to win a close one at San Antonio. I dont think that team has enough to slow the magic down. LMAO you must be loving how JJ is playing, he's shutting up any haters...GO FREAKING MAGIC!!!

Even JJ got into the game! 15 pts in 20 min. 4 of 7 overall, including 4 of 5 from 3pt land.

Hedo 6 of 9 overall, including 5 of 5 from the arc, and 4 of 4 from the line. WHAT SLUMP?

What a friggin game!

Gentlemen this was a major axx kicking.
The Magic are making a major statement and they finally are getting some attention.
I hope we stop the gripping on individual players and realise that this team is pretty complete and more important is that they play as a team.
My hat is off to SVG he is really got the team playing outstanding defense.
The only weakness I see is a lack of depth at point guard.
60 wins or more is definitely not out of the question.
Jim Atlanta is no longer a question mark you can put a fork in them they are done.
Oh Jim I hope you did not loose too much money on the game.

I watched some of ESPN's coverage, they are starting to talk about the Magic a little more. It wasn't that bad as Jim would make you believe. even Jeff Van Gundy talked about his brother some which never happens. Called him Coach of the year.

Finally, a near flawless game from the Magic. It is scary what they can be when clicking on all cylinders.

Marc Jackson on ESPN actually admitted the Magic were good enough to come out of the East tonight during the Cav's-C's game.

Jim, I could not agree with you more. Absolutely brilliant post on your behalf. I have to be honest with you and Magic fans...The magic are good I mean REAL good. I look forward to watching you guys battle in the Eastern Conference finals this year.
Now, you have to excuse me I need to CVS to get some Just For Men for my damn grey spot on my head.
Peace.
