Orlando Magic bench showing signs of life

Back in December when the Orlando Magic became more than just a blip in the NBA elite conversation with their 4-1West Coast road trip, it was the starting five that rightfully wound up getting most of the ... Full Story

I'm glad the Magic bench is coming along nicely. It'll need to be effective during the post-season if the Magic hope to go far.

This one will be tough. Glad the Magic get them at home, maybe it will give them a little extra. Use Gortat as needed in the first three quarters and save Battie for the fourth.

JJ has really been surprising me the last week or so. I have never questioned if he could shoot, that is obvious. But his focus on defense and overall team play on both ends of the court have been incredibly solid. He will never win Defencive Player of the Year but he is making good strides.

Here should be next years back up 5 if they keep Turk.

C-Gorat
PF-Pietris- I know he's small but he would give defenders fits.
SF-Turk
SG-JJ
PG-Rafer

I don't agree with anything in this article. The "so-called experts" always point at the bench ppg to determine if a bench is good or not. The stats show that bench ppg's is directly proportionate to the bench's minutes per game. Our bench minutes are near the lowest in the league, thusly they are near the bottom of the league in ppg. But what you have to look at is the bench's +/-. Our bench is 10th in the league in +/-. That means our bench consistently outplays the opposing bench. If they played more minutes their +/- would probably be alot better. But when you have a starting 5 like we do that is arguably the best when you include Jameer, the bench would tend to play less. Again, looking at the efficiency of our bench, it is very good.

What a big f...g surprise is Tony Battie?! WHAT? Is it the same Tony that last year we lost to injury ,and coaches and smith were crying "What are we going to do without him?" ??,and now they don't play him? What the hell?? Not to mention picking up JJ and not playing him or trading...
Really SVG and OS ? Really?

Utah should be very tired after last night 3ple overtime so go MAGIC!

All the haters don't want JJ to be successful because of the Duke connection.... but look what happens when the Magic start to look for him within an offence that suits his skills.... we get points and a great % from the field...!!

At last we are using him.. if we traded JJ you know the team who got him would run plays for him.. extend D's.... About time SVG woke up to the firepower he has on the bench....

Then i know the haters will say what about the Dfence? What about it?

Its team D and we have the best shot blocker in our line up...john paxson ... steve kerr all survived and won championships... JJ can too..

Guys relax a little, Stan did give JJ some burn earlier in the year and his shot was off. So don't go come on here and act like he wasn't given an opportunity because he was. Anyways I like that he's finally in a groove and hitting his shots.

Magis suck and are WAY overrated ... i hope the seedings stay as is so the Magic get bounced in the 1st round. That would be hilarious ... 3rd seed, homecourt and you still get torched.

On contrast ... Miami Heat will get to the 2nd round no matter what. The difference between them and the Magic is they have BALLS and a backbone and the Magic are whiners led by the juvenile clown dwight howard. Until he puts away his Disney collection and starts to play like a man, Magic are pretenders and their followers are clowns.

Dude go take a shower, we OWN MIAMI, if you feel that way why bother to read anything about our Magic. And if the seeding stays the same way they are now, we don't get the Pistons we get the 76ers. Hit the showers you hater...GO Magic...

They really showed that backbone when they got shellacked 3 out of 4 this year. Miami is a one man show. Everybody else down there is garbage. That's why D-Wade has to score 40 every night.

We care about the Magic. We don't care about "hating" on one of our SG's because he went to Duke. Grow up. This is america, btw. we spell is defenSe. Steve Kerr got 5 minutes a night. He won championships by playing on great teams. He was an afterthought. Everybody on the floor for the Magic spreads the floor. JJ is not special in that regard. He has started playing hard all the time, even when he's not involved on the offensive end, and he's knocking down his shots when he gets the opportunity. And we magic fans are very happy about that.

Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy..

Maybe its not this group of haters but there alot of haters i read on here about JJ.. waste of a pick .. no defence playin comments...

Back tracking to the Detroit game when JJ was guarding Rip... maybe SVG had given JJ that defensive assignment to show him how he should play. Rip's movement without the ball is the best in the NBA. JJ's primary offensive tactic is running without the ball. But he hesitates and passes open shots. Rip is much more aggressive (and less concerned with firing from three-point range). Maybe he should wear a mask so defenders won't see the worried look in his face.
