For some reason I highly doubt that Lorbek or Barac will work out. Likely they will be similar to that great point guard we dealt to Golden State who was from overseas who never could play at the NBA level. At least he did come to the US. Who is to say that we will see these two in the league?

Maybe it's time to send Larry "Legend" overseas and leave him there.

Larry is an idiot no other Gm makes the stupid decisions he does.
Until Larry is gone the Pacers will probably never be a contender. |

I don't understand why Larry is willing to sacrifice great US players in one the deepest drafts for a European player not available until 2010. The loyal paying fans want a contending team today not tomorrow! I guess when the stands are empty and fans are sick of mediocre talent the Pacer management will continue to make bonehead decisions!

oden and connelly are from indy, right? but once again, the pacers have chosen a big-footed white boy, from croatia{?}. what, ron harper was not available? robo, steepo, stinko, you see a pattern here. the good news is the guy gets to hang out in europe for a few years. no wonder o'neil wants out. pull your head out, larry. tom littlejohn.

Bird said. "I like to get these guys to come over here when they're about 25, 26, 27 years old. They're mature, they've been through all of it, they know what to expect and they're ready to make the jump over.
"A lot of young guys like to jump into the fray right away and it takes them a few years. I expect when we bring these guys over, they'll be ready to go." WHAT BALONEY! "ready to go" for what? All I'm seeing from his Euro scouting is one guy who hasn't played for us from the 2005 draft, another who won't be for 4 years...and two Euro pickups (Sarunas and Maceo) who aren't NBA-caliber talents at all. And at age 25-27 would it have been better to practice against NBA talent for 4 years...or against some stiff in a Croatian league? What also galls me is that Larry phrased this like he's done this before..."I like to get these guys..." blah blah blah. The only question I have is this...When attendance drops from second worst in the league, to THE worst in the league, will it be this year or next year when the Simons finally have had enough of Larry and pull the plug on him. Honestly, I thought Isaih was a horrid GM in New York, but at least he can judge draft-day talent. |

Why in God's name did Bird select this kid over seas at #39 when Josh McRoberts, an Indiana kid, available at #37 and ready to play NOW, was still out there. As a player, I respected and loved the way Larry played the game, not being very athletic and all, but as GM or President or whatever the hech his title is, HE HAS BEEN A MAJOR BUST. Do I need to remind evryone about ALL the blunders. I have loved and watched the Pacers since they played at the Fairgrounds, I vow to not watch anymore until this BIRD guy is GONE. From my view, Larry's the one that has screwed up the team.

One other thing, Donnie if you are gone, then be gone, let everybody know it, so the Simons can go out and hire a REAL GM. You hanging around watching this crap isn't doing any good.

Here's the thing though, no he wont help them now,but the pacers are not set up to win now, it's a risky but acceptable move by the Pacers, imo. Given the Kid is still maturing,20 years old. also he reportedly has a nice jumper.
As for McRoberts, he is as slow footed if not slower than Barac, and has Little defensive presence(though a better J),Barac has average.(but barac is also 7'2" and is fundementally sound, which can make up some for the lack of quickness) I don't know if this guy is gonna pay off but I have more faith in him than McRoberts. Was it the wisest pick in this win now NBA,No,but at this pick it's not a bad one. |

P.S. I agree Larry is not shining in his role with the Pacers
