Hughes coming back

Though 12 years under his belt, over 10,000 points, Larry Hughes hit the gym last week to get ready for the 2011-2012 season after taking a year off. Oklahoma or Memphis should have signed him, exactly what they needed.

Whatever one says, and since Hughes is very shy, people have the wrong impression of him, he is a class individual on and off the court, never once in trouble in his career.

Playing with MJ in Washington, and Lebron in Cleveland, he is about the only player to play with both. 14 points per game average for 12 years is good, but most people don't understand that Hughes takes 10-14 points of the other teams score board. Always while playing he leads the lead in steals. Here is a great 6 or 7th man, someone that has been to the playoffs and the finals (played point guard for Cleveland the only year they went to the playoffs, and it is not even his position), but whether the 2 guard, point or small forward, Hughes can give some great leadership and minutes and can still guard anyone and the passing lanes.

The gas give-away has nothing to do with gas (though it does help those people with a free fill up, Hughes has done this all through his whole career to make people aware of organ donation, and to sign the back of their license. Hughes only brother, received a Heart Transplant, and Hughes stayed in St. Louis and played for St. Louis University to be close to his brother that year, foregoing the NBA. After the bills started coming in, and you can imagine what they would be, Hughes went pro to help his family, against his mothers wishes to finish college (SLUH does not let you play unless you have the grades).

As he will often state, and fans don not understand, sometimes things in life happen that are more important than basketball (your brother getting a heart transplant, dying 10 years later (during playoffs), your wife having a brain aneurism at 28. The press will state that Hughes does not think basketball is important and leave out the rest of his family health struggles and working
on the road most the year, and the fans just do not understand.

A heart transplant and brain aneurism is not something you can blow off and play hoops.

Hughes is one player that does numerous charitable acts every single year for his foundation, to bad other, more well known players don't do the same. Same with NFL, MLB, the NBA is really the best in working and giving back.

Larry Brown knew Hughes was good, so does Jordan, he would be a solid addition coming in a various opportunities, Hughes has always been given the toughest player assignments in his career. The knock on his shots came from Mike Brown's Lebron on five offense, when Lebron could not make a shot, 3 seconds left on the shot clock, it went to Hughes (never a three point shooter) who had to throw it up before the buzzer, so much is lost in stats, still Hughes would out score Lebron in his years there. I hope Hughes plays for Charlotte.
