It's a good thing I went to college before digital cameras were invented or there probably would be pictures posted on the Internet of me performing naked calisthenics on a major interstate near Beloit, Wis.

He's lying about this photo being taken while he was at Memphis. In every photo I've seen from when he was playing in memphis, he doesn't have the tattoos that he does in the gang sign picture.

I agree with the writer's sentiment here. Derrick Rose is obviously a good person. People make mistakes - what teenager that you know hasn't made a ridiculously bad decision at least once in his or her life? Being young means learning new lessons every day. And hard lessons like this one are the stickiest. I'm sure he'll learn a lot from this experience.

Our society is awash in faux and hypocritical outrage, and it really makes me sick. This incident hasn't changed my opinion of Derrick Rose much at all aside from making him seem more human to me. He's a person just like you and me and we all make bad choices at some point in our lives.

Get over it and fix the problems in your own lives.

It's true that people make mistakes and it goes to show how little room our youth has when acting foolishly with digitial photography and cell phones.

Derrick is a good kid...but still a kid.

Rose seems like a good guy, but shame on the writer for trying to equate naked jumping jacks to the scourge that is gangs and their path of destruction.

I've flashed a gang sign before when I was younger as well. I'm as far from a gangbanger as someone could be. I was doing it in mocking fashion. Maybe Rose was doing the same. As long as he's not a gang banger now or hangs around with them, that's all we need to be concerned about as Bulls fans.

Thank you KC

Did any of you even follow the Bulls this season? Derrick Rose didn't have a single incident that required any kind of discipline. There wasn't one negative thing said about the way he went about his business or handled the media. He was never seen out and about partying, and he came in to work hard every single day. He dealt with the media every day and you never heard anybody rip him at all this season.

Guess what, he made some mistakes WHEN HE WAS IN HS AND COLLEGE. He's going to make more mistakes down the road (he's only 20 years old!), but none of that means he's a bad kid. If you don't want him to be a role model for your kid, good, then why don't you parent your own kids and teach them the difference between right and wrong. While these athletes are looked up to as role models and they have a certain degree of responsibility, it's YOUR FAULT if your stupid kid thinks it's cool to flash gangs signs just because Derrick Rose did it.

Those of you overreacting, are probably the same ones who go to the games to scream and play with the McDonald's hype team while the rest of us are trying to watch the game.

A lot of perfect people on these boards. The guy has never been in trouble for anything, a stupid pic is just that, a stupid pic. Secondly the NBA are forcing these kids to go to college when they really dont have to. Two years ago Derrick was already skilled enough to play in the pros, but becuase college B-ball is a billion dollar industry where these kids are forced to go play for free, he had to go. So give me a break with this cheat stuff, bunch of high and mighty tightwads. Come down off your horses.

The real issue the Bulls should be worried about is that Rose looks baked in this picture. Mary Jane is bad, mmm kay?

I'm totally kidding by the way. Sarcasm + message boards = not going to work well together.

This situation is similar to the Michael Phelps photo. An alleged "friend" took this photo and then used it against him for personal gain. Nice "friend."

Seems like people are just looking to dig up dirt on this kid. I know down at u of i, the whitest of the white suburban kids "flashed" that very same GD sign to "rep their hood" at parties. They were intelligent beings just fooling around. Who cares, he flashed a damn gang sign. Like he said, he was young, dumb, and someone probably asked him "yo man, where you hail from"...and the young Rose threw up the GD sign. Who cares.

People in general should look into the mirrors, while, at the same time, getting a clue.

Obviously, it's your job K.C. to cover the Bulls team, so sugarcoating the team's player activities obviously comes with the territory as well. Truth be told, displaying gang signs is far different, and far more disturbing than your little analogy that you laid out about yourself. And your softening it up doesn't dispute that.

Look, D. Rose is a bb player, and that's it. He's definitely shown himself to be no saint. Now do i think he's a gang banger or supports bangers? Probably not; however, trying to make excuses for him is ridiculous on your part K.C. He's not the first person to do stupid stuff in public, and like everyone who has previously, you have to hold your own self responsible for your actions.

Unlike you K.C., most of your readers don't know, and will never know D.Rose, so some of us anyways, aren't going to try and make excuses for him or his behavior. My only hope is he doesn't allow his outside activities, to get in the way of helping my favorite bb team from progressing. But thinking he is, or expecting him to be, some sort of fine upstanding citizen doesn't make alot of sense, especially with what he appears to be displaying, to the public about his persona.

I'm almost 40 now, but I grew up around folks and brothers. I was never in a gang but I grew up around Blackstone Rangers in my hood and GDs in my cousins' neighborhood. I had to learn how to throw signs, do the hand shakes and "spit law" just to keep from get beat down in certain neighborhoods. When I went down south to go to school I threw the pitchfork to the sky and to the ground all the time for curious people that weren't from Chicago and wanted to see them. There might even be a picture or two like that of me floating around, but they'd be about 20 years old and I'm not famous so no one would care. The point is he's a kid that did something silly. He's obviously not a gangster. Real g's don't have time for organized ball.

adam,
"if any of you people from oak brook ever saw a 'hood' you would **** your pants so maybe you should shut it.

I have lived in the city my whole life. Played ball in high school in those same hoods when they were allot worse than they are now. Not a fun place to be. But I guess you already know with living in that nice toown of Port Charlotte... I dare you to come her and see the hood.... go back and sit in the sun you sissy

Let's see-first a liar-then a cheat-now a thug--great role model--

Bulls should trade him now while his value is still high--he will self destruct in 3 years--then where will the apologists for his behavior hide?
