Magic to face Pistons in 2nd round

Full story: Orlando Sentinel

Dwight Howard doesn't even consider this a rematch. The Orlando Magic will open the second round of the NBA playoffs Saturday night in Detroit against the Pistons, virtually the same team that swept them so ...

This was my defense of the Magic on Hoops World blog:

I see everyone is dreamy eyed with Detroit. Most of you don't even begin to realize how good the Magic have been all year. They have been flying under the radar and are now going to get noticed. Just some quick facts to surprise you with. Orlando is the only team with a winning record against Boston, they are 2-2 against Detroit and whipped them soundly on their home court. Including preseason games they are 5-1 against Cleveland. 7-2 against Toronto. They have beaten NO, LA, Portland, Golden State, Houston on their home courts. They lost by 4 points to Utah, 3 points to the Mavs, and 4 points to the Suns on their home courts. All those games were decided in the final seconds. You better go back and take a look at a Magic team that can come to your house and put your head on a silver platter. Last time Orlando played in Detroit we won by 18. Dwight is 22 and had three, count em three 20+ double doubles in one series. You have to go back to the Stilt to get games like that. Detroit has had their time, move over because here comes the Magic and they will turn your heads this time around.

Let give a big hand to Otis Smith for the great job he has done.Otis smith is a class action which that only should put him in the running for GM of the year. After Billy Donovan back down from being the orlando magic head coach still cool under pressure Smith than went out than got Stan Van Gundy for the head coaching job which turn out to be a winner. He sytle of coaching make the magic the new beast of the east.

Sorry boricua, but the way the Hawks are manhandling the Celtics, it only proves what I've thought all season: the Celtics are overrated and the Magic are VERY capable of defeating them if they happen to meet them in the Conference Finals. Funny how the Hawks have claimed more victories over the Celtics this season in this series than any other team did during the regular season.

Regardless of what happens from now on, this has been a great season for the Magic. I still think that the Magic will play very well in this series, and that they have a legitimate shot at beating the Pistons. My prediction is that it will be a close series, and that the Magic will pull an upset (it's not really a "huge" upset)by beating the Pistons in a seventh game at Detroit's homecourt. The Magic will eventually lose to the Celtics in the Eastern Conference finals. However, I would be very happy if I'm wrong on this last one.

Rasheed and Howard will be a good match-up. Sheed will most likely force him into tough shots, and catch him off guard from the 3 point line. Howard will either be forced out of the key to defend against the 3, thus sacrificing rebounds, or he will get torn up on the block.

Prince is a first team All-Defense. Hedo is going to have a tough time with him.

The only edge from a matchup I give to Orlando is Rashard Lewis and Jason Maxiell...won't matter because Nelson will turn the ball over so much he won't get any touches.

Pistons have higher caliber players (minus DH) and a deeper bench. Pistons beat your Magic team in 6 and advance. Good run but lights out ladies!!! GO PISTONS

The Magic will lose in 5 or 6 games. This will be Detroit last legitimate run for the championship. I just see as Magic as a bump on their way to the finals.

Its real cool how it went from a 1 point lead to being down 15 without a timeout!!! And how about maybe trying to take 1 shot without fading away or moving while taking it! And I think I've counted about 50 times we've dribbled over the screen and shot the ball. DRIVE!!!! Is this game really that hard to comprehend?!?!? And how about we be a little more physical! Didn't know we were a 6th grade girls team? Who cares?!?!? They don't respect you!! MAKE THEM!!!!
