As dismal as the Magic's draft history has been, isn't this whole "we'll take the best player available. Whoever it is." philosophy just a wee bit amibiguous? They should be drafted by NEED. Are they going to draft another small forward if that "the best player available?" And why are they interviewing shooting guards? Slide Rashard Lewis to SG, keep Turk at SF, and we'll have Battie at PF. The main focus is finding a backup for Nelson. Someone who can come in and play defense when Jameer is out-matched.

What about the info on the draftees? How did they do? Who looked the best? These are the things that the public/ fans want to know about.

On another note... Best Player Available? C'mon man, me have the most glaring needs in the NBA. We need a solid PF, a backup PG, a nice SG and a more solid bench. Is Otis saying he doesn't think ONE player in this draft can fill at least ONE of those needs? You can't draft a SF right now, that position's loaded, not with players but with the minutes that they've earned.

I think the Magic's 1st round selection pool should consist of (Nicolas Batum, Marreese Speights, Chris Douglas-Roberts, Bill Walker and Brandon Rush). If they plan on getting a 2nd round pick, they MUST take a long look at JJ Hickson if he falls to the 2nd round. If not then Joey Dorsey or Courtney Lee. Then I think most of us would consider this a successful draft.

The Magic have a terrible draft history and they MUST get out of this poor drafting slump this year.

Dump Augustine and draft Roy Hibbert from Georgetown at the 22nd pick. He's a solid BIG player who will be in the NBA for years after Battie retires, and he can be trained by Patrick Ewing to compliment Howard just like Charles Oakley did for Ewing at the Knicks. Georgetown has a good record for producing quality bangers, and at 265 lbs. Hibbert looks like a nice 20 minute compliment to the Magic's board game.

It's a joke alright. But not as big a joke as Van Gundy and his coaching staff. Now, that's a joke.

NO!!! your a joke. I can't understand why every body's on stan's
back. get off of it,the man has won 52 games this past year and made a second round appearance in the playoffs. more then any coach has done for years here. what do you guys want Brain Hill back or how about this, why don't we bring back Richie Adubato yea!!! that's the one.
give me a break people. look at all the subpar season's that weve had and he's gave us 52 win's and a 2nd round playoff appearance and that's not a nuff, give him a chance and see what he does with a coulpe more key components that we add this year.then judge him. Oh!!! I get it.
you guy's must be JJ redick fan's.

i think they need to think about the combo guards with #22 and then good to trade into the second round at least early or mid second round.

#22 - either courtney lee, Brandon rush or lester hudson
second round- dorsey or any of the other big guys we looked at most will probably still be around then.

and no international players for god sake.

The Magic arent going to draft big because they have Foyle and Battie and the Polish Hammer (Gortat),

They'll draft a PG/SG...and leave poor JJ sitting on the bench...again...So SVG likes to shoot the three why dont we play JJ?
The guy can shoot the lights out!!!!
So we can have Mo Evans? Give me JJ in the starting line up anyday over Evans....

i just read on one of the orlando sports blogs that joey dorsey is 6ft 6?!! he is a power forward with limited skills. I was cool with him being picked in the 2nd round provided the magic acquired a pick, but now...

There was an article about a month back that Fran Vazquez is ready to join the Magic. What is up with that? Any news? What I have been reading on the internet is that he has turned into a solid Euro player.

You are basing JJ's credentials on his college career. Yes, he had a fabulous career at Duke. So did Bobby Hurley and Jay Williams.

The biggest knock on JJ is that he cannot defent NBA shooting gaurds, is too slow to play PG. If you can't defend in the NBA, you aren't going to play that much.

The two reasons that JJ doesnt get to play for the Magic is...

He's from Duke.
He's White.

Period.

This should be a test for GM Smith. He has yet to show that he can evaluate talent in the draft. His track record is weak when it comes to the draft. This weakness has limited the upward progression of the Magic.

Just because that you give contracts to free agents doesn't always mean that you get good players in your team. What makes this draft list more interesting is that players come from colleges who went to the Final Four and players who were from a championship team. Players we have and Otis have in our list means good potential.

I heard he is not coming this year because the buyout of his contract is too high. I think its his last year of the contract, so maybe next year. He comes off the bench on his team there, so dont expect much from him anyway.
