Otis asleep at the wheel again. Magic have no point guard, have no power forward. DH runs the show. Little Buddy will kill the offense again this year. Otis carries on an open feud with Redick using his shill, Brian Schmitz, to belittle Redick. Yesterday when everyone should have had his or her eyes on the ball BS takes time to quote a Magic official branding JJ a "disgruntled employee". Should have been looking for a trade...or something. Lee was the wrong choice. Many GMs used yesterday to improve their teams. Magic not so. Otis brought up Redick again when announcing Lee.(Curiously) Grow up Otis or step aside and let a man do the job!

I liked CDR, but that's because I saw the damage he did to UCF. Still, Lee should be a good fit. Bogans had a decent post season, so Magic should be OK at the 2, even if Evans leaves. They can also play Hedo there, with Lewis at the 3 and Battie back as PF. Here's the deal with Redick, he's no good. 2 NBA coaches now have realized there's nothing there. And no other teams want him.

As for point guard, I agree, the Magic need one but you won't find one with the 22nd pick who can contribute right away. Otis needs to focus on finding a starting PG through free agency or trades.

THE ONLY THING THIS BUM WILL HELP THE MAGIC WITH IS CLENAING THE FLOORS. OTIS SMITH IS A HORRIBLE GM AND OF COURSE THE GIVE HIM AND EXTENSION. DO THEY REALLY THINK THIS GUY IMPROVES THE TEAM? THOSE GUYS CAN'T EVALUATE TALENT AT ALL. THE COACH IS OBESE, THE GM IS DUMB, AND THE OWNERS ARE SNAKE OIL SALESMEN. NICE MANAGEMENT ORLANDO

I have no problem with the magic drafting Courtney Lee, they really need a two guard who is strong and can hit a mid-range shot. We have enough 3-ballers on the team, with Battie coming back, that will allow vangundy to move rashard to his natural position of a SF, and even move hedo to SG, the magic should easily sign another good player or two with the mid-level exemption. So I say all in all a good pick for the magic. I liked CDR better with this pick though, I am not sure why he dropped so far.

Second, as a 52 win team you dont have to change much, just add players to an already talented core. By the way, the season doesnt start tomorrow, they have all summer to improve and add pieces via a trade or Free agency. So go focus on all 4 California teams and leave the Magic to us local fans. We have enough transient people coming to games cheering on the other team to have morons like you make un-educated comments.

Where is Otis, he sits back does nothing and makes his pick and takes a nap. The Magic have many roster spots while other teams are looking to trade or sell away picks and Otis naps. I have no problem with the pick of C. Lee, but Otis somebody should have woken Otis and told him there were some decent PF available in the second round if he wanted to make a few phone calls.
Just like at the trade deadline last year when he does nothing with the dead weight assets at the end of the bench and just lets their contracts expire at the end of the season. Detroit, San Antonio go out and pick up extra big men while Otis naps.

Wake-up Otis!

Redick this Redick that...Reddick is not LArry Bird or the next white hope I never saw the fan base crying to see Jerryl Sasser or Reese Gaines...I am white but this is riduculous Redick is an undersized shooting guard who cannot play defense......SG is a huge concern as well so if Lee pans out great...use your brains though you want a rookie Point or Big Man next year....I'll answer that for you no we need 2 veteran players to fill these spots.

Well Otis got what (who) he felt we needed. Now we need to talk to Utah and get Milsap (a PF) for about $3 mil a year. Then sign Shaun Livingston (6'7 PG) from the clippers. Both can be had for under $6 mil together. D12 will just have to wait for some good relief help until next season.

So those your players that are going to put us over the top? A broke down wannabe PG and and undersized PF. I cant wait.

The selection of Lee only solidifies speculation that JJ is gone (Hopefully) Re-sign Dooling, Lee can play both guard spots and your set, Hedo is sliding down to play the 2 with Bogans/Lee backing him up so SG/PG are covered. They need another 6'10 guy that can actually rebound and a back up SF through FA or MLE or via trade. Maybe using a combination of Redick, Cook, and Cash or future picks. Otis will get it done. So far he's done a great job of rebuilding this team quickly.

I kinda agree with you. But with Arroyo, Evans, Garrity, Augustine likely gone that money can go towards a quality free agent, probablly 2. I think Otis did the right thing.

Thought that this was a pretty good draft pick. Besides lack of depth at the 4 and 5 (due to injuries to Tony Battie and Brian Cook), Orlando's biggest weakness was the lack of a really good shooting guard. Lee has decent size, shot about 40 percent from 3 last year and should be a good addition. Memo to J.J.: Better pack your bags, because I hear some team in Greece, Israel or Serbia calling your name.

Um, yeah. I'll admit that I haven't been a big fan of Otis in the fast, but he certainly stepped up and did what needed to be done last year(picking up another legit scorer in Rashard Lewis), and it paid off. The coach is obese? Is that the best slam on StanVan you can come up with? Kansas coach Mark Mangino looks like Jabba the Hutt, but the Jayhawks went to a BCS bowl game. Thanks for your input, Esteban.

You're probably the same kind of moron who thought Sam Bowie was a better pick than Michael Jordan.

Was everybody asleep when Battie was playing against the Pistons 2 years ago in the playoffs? Im sorry did we win a game? He's really gonna help us this year 2 years older? Please ....

I dont understand why Riley can pick up a 6'2" point guard in the 2nd round (from MN) and the Magic cant wheel and deal.

Actually I do understand ... Riley is Riley and Otis is a joke with no Balls and no brain.

RIGHT ON! We had plenty of options to trade for J. Oneal. I don't think Otis talks to other teams. D. Arthur was the pick. CL is just another bench player and won't put the Magic over the top. Toronto is the team now.

Otown1:

Really, Jermaine O'Neal? Maybe five years ago, but not now. In the last four seasons, he's played 44, 51, 69 and 42 games, respectively. Last year he averaged 13.6 points and 6.7 rebounds a game. He'll be 30 in October. In theory, it was a good idea to pair Bosh and O'Neal. But O'Neal is damn near washed up and the Raptors gave up a ton to get him. Orlando will be in good shape with the team coming back next year.

I'm tired of people saying let's overhaul everything. Look at Phoenix and Dallas. Did their big trades get them anywhere? Nope they both lost in the first round.

Toronto's big trade is not that great. They lost PG depth and gained a soft PF/C who is not half the player he use to be. The other team's trades didn't help them.

The only things I'm annoyed about right now is the fact that we still have JJ and we didn't get a 2nd round pick. I don't know if teams were asking too much for the 2nd rounders or if JJ is truly unwanted by other teams, but I thought we could have done one or the other last night.

First off, Battie was a starter in that series two years ago. Secondly, Sheed and McDyess were still playing at a high level. Battie will not be expected to start, but you can't tell me his defensive presence would've helped against Detroit's front line. Just being able to throw out another big body would've helped.
As far as Otis picking up a point guard, he just signed Jameer to a five-year extension in November. In his eyes, his PG position is set. Now I tend to agree that we could use an upgrade at point guard, but like I said before, our weakest position last season was the 2. Can't blame Otis for trying to upgrade that spot in the draft.
