Eight other children taken from this family? How many kids did they have? I guess we should be happy that only one of them died. And the report said that DCFS had prior contact witht he family. That means that they have been reported for abuse in the past. I only wish they would have been watched closer adn perhaps the kids removed sooner before one had to die.

My prayers to the other relatives and friends of this family as they try to cope with this mess.

This is very sad. Only 12 years old. It is also sad that DCFS has had prior contact and this still happened. But, before you get on the DCFS system, I know that there are some poor DCFS workers out there, but there are also some great ones who care a lot about the job they do. The problem is they are overloaded with cases and not enought time to give them the attention they need. That is why Gov. Blago has cut their budget along with all of the other Human Services budgets in the State of IL. However, he and his buddies in the House and Senate are getting 12% pay raises this year. They can't agree on anything else though and fight constantly. The State is at a standstill most of the time. AND THEY ARE ALL DEMOCRATS!!!!! Illinois is so screwed!

This woman was like a female cat NOT SPAYED!!! 8 OTHER CHILDREN REMOVED??

Why in God's name would DCFS allow this 12 year old to stay?

I hear it all the time. My neighbor is a pyschologist and his wife works for DCFS. The sick stories and how their hands are TIED!!!

I only pray this child is at peace and with some guardian angels who will give him the love he deserved here on Earth!!

If found guilty the parents should be locked up for life!!!!!! They don't deserve to see any children again.

Not only should they be locked up but in that slight instance that Illinois' Court system lets them out, they both need to be fixed IMMEDIATELY so there are no more children brought into this family.

DCFS should be held accountable for their neglect. This child was beaten and killed by not only his family, but by DCFS and the entire system. We need to fight for more funding to correct our horrible system!

Everyone is jumping to conclusions. The only fact raised in the story hinting abuse is, "The department has had prior contact with Johnson's family" which in and of itself does not prove or suggest abuse occurred. With 8 other kids in the family, for all we know any bruises could be the result of "sibling rivalry" or from an incident at school on a playground.

Let's deal in facts people. If the parents DID abuse and/or directly or indirectly cause the death of this child, then the parents will pay..with severe judgements against them.

"Prior Contact" could also imply that the family sought out services or assistance from DCFS. Please lets pray for the WHOLE family and not wast time throwing stones!

Has no one read the updates on the story on other news sites?

Apparently there are 4 siblings and 4 step-siblings. The 12 year old that was killed and his 3 other siblings lost their parents a few years ago. These parents were foster parents who adopted them. It may have been that DCFS had prior contact due to placing them in the home, no one knows yet. Apparently this boy had some older siblings and they are speaking out that they were not placed with them when the parents died.

But still a sad story

You have got to be kidding me? Thanks for the heads up now I know where to avoid in the loop tomorrow.

If they are protesting for more funding, good luck with that. They have been protesting for years for CPS funding, etc. With good ol' Blago in office, theres a better chance of h*e*l*l* freezing over before these programs get the money they need

They are not protesting for MORE funding, they just want the 35% of their funding restored that Blago cut last week. It means thousands of people will lose vital services and hundreds of jobs lost in the health and human services sector. Plus the State will lose a matching Federal dollar for each State dollar cut. Smart move on tee Gov's part? Not really!

And people are surprised why???

He has to pay for all of their raises one way or another besides the Free Rides for Seniors that he chose to impose.

Yes, isn't it sad how the legislature can award themselves a 12% pay raise and allow health and human services for the neediest people to be slashed 35%? I will never forget the words of Emil Jones, "I NEED a raise! I NEED a raise!" Disgusting! Illinois is the laughing stock of the U.S.!

Why were elderly parents allowed to adopt three kids? When I adopted--no financial incentive--the cut off age for adoption was early thirties so the kids could be raised to adulthood. Was this an adoption with benefits--who got what? Why were these kids just passed on after the death of the elderly adoptive or foster parents to be cash cows for their kids? What was that couple doing with 8 kids? How much did the state of Illinois pay for this tender care for state wards and why didn't DCFS remove Kevin in April? How many sweetheart deals are being made with vile foster parents who stack kids up like cord wood and collect the check every month so they can buy fancy digs in Crete? What's the age cut-off for foster parents and the number of children that can be placed in a home? Sad little guy, senseless death, and the foster care system stinks.
