I was a bit disapointed with your article on the Kelly Green taking state at the NMAA Cheerleading and Dance Competition this weekend. Any other sport would have been front page news, and included a celebration photo of the team accepting their trophy and the names of each team member and coach. Why is dance second rate to any other sport?

Also, in your article you mention Brittiny, which is an interesting story as to how she became the coach of the squad. However, this is only 1/18th of the story. You did not mention the other coach, or any of the 16 girls.

I sincerly hope that you give these deserving young ladies coverage worthy of their accomplishment in an upcoming issue.

Because dancing is not a sport, it's an activity. Be glad it made the paper at all.

I was also disappointed that this great achievement was not better covered in the Sunday Paper. State Champions in a field of over 12 teams. Where is the photo? List of the dancers names, info on the coach and what they have accomplished this year. Dance / Cheer is a year round sport with no down time. 5 am practice - after school practice. These are athletes - please give them the credit they deserve.

Yes these young ladies' are athletes. As a proud father of a young dancer of 11, that has been dancing for 8 years now @ 2 different dance academies, i can attest that these young ladies work very hard in preparation for their competitions. congrats girls. way to go bliss, sierra, ashton, morgan, and all the other KG'S on the team. Also congrats to Kiara, and the other girls on the panterazz dance team @ PV. All of you have my recognition for the hard work you do put in. football, basketball, track or baseball, wrestling, these girls are athletes!!!

We certainly would have run a photo had we been provided with one. As I said in another thread, we cannot cover things that we aren't made aware of. A phone call earlier in the week saying, "hey, the Kelly Greens are competing at state this week, can we send you a photo" would have gone a long way toward these girls getting more space in the paper.

As it stands, we are working to get more information so we can do something bigger. We in no way are trying to short-change the KG's for their accomplishment - what you saw in Sunday's paper was all we had to go off of.

Question: Do the baseball teams call you to cover their games? Do they send pictures to you to be published?

actually yes. I have been a booster club member of a sport (not baseball) and I have friend that is on the PV booster club (baseball) and they organize everything right down to who is in charge of "asking" for publicity with the paper. They call the radios, papers, and even local businesses to publicize things. Otherwise they would be no different than some of the other sports that don't get covered.

KG's you rock! good job. way to get back on top.

As of now, both Dance and Cheer are now sports in the state of New Mexico and beating a 5-time state champion team is a great honor and very newsworthy.

Dance is a sport we work hard and we do things that it takes years for us to learn. If you don't think its a sport then I want to see you do second turns and a triple pirouette and an aerial and lifts or a stall. We work hard and we sweat and we win competitions. Youre being ignorant saying that we aren't a sport. Why don't you just keep your incorrect comments to your self and go away because you have no business critizing dancers at all
