Miami Heat may get some of its veterans back before season ends

There are 4 comments on the South Florida Sun-Sentinel story from Apr 1, 2008, titled Miami Heat may get some of its veterans back before season ends. In it, South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that:

“I got caught star-watching a little bit”

After sending out overmatched lineups for most of March, the Heat could play more of its established veterans over the final two weeks of the season.

Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks could return from injuries by the end of the week. Jason Williams , out with a thumb injury, says he still wants to play. And Pat Riley was back coaching Monday after his most recent hiatus to scout college players, saying he's probably done with such trips. Banks (hamstring) has been out since March 9, Marion (back) since March 18 and Williams since March 23. Riley said Marion and Banks, acquired from Phoenix in the Shaquille O'Neal trade, might be available for Friday's game at Washington. Williams' contract will expire after the season and the Heat is in full lottery mode. But he said he's lobbying for the medical staff to remove the hard cast protecting the bone bruise on his right thumb. 'I would love to play,' Williams said. 'Basketball is fun to me.' The Heat is comfortably ahead of Seattle in the race for the NBA 's worst record and thus the most ping-pong balls in the draft lottery. Considering the depleted state of the roster, adding Marion, Banks and Williams probably wouldn't change that. Riley had missed four of the previous 11 games to scout college players, including Sunday's 85-69 loss at Boston that dropped the Heat to 0-4 in his absence. He's not expected to scout the NCAA Final Four this weekend at San Antonio. 'While we are looking at [draft picks] one to four, there are at least 20 other players who caught my eye,' Riley said. So Riley found at least 20
players. I hope we don't get
too many younglings for the
team.I know Riley is targeting on the FreeAgents
and will do his magic trades.
