Wrong again. Back then Manny and Albert weren't fan favorites. Belle especially.
Wrong again. LeBron is not just liked for his athletic abilities, he's LOVED for what he has done for Akron, Cleveland and NE Ohio.
Wrong again. Loyalty is NOT blind, it is genuine. And judging by your posts, you don't know anything about class.
Wrong again. You're a hypocrite, not a Christian. It's ok for you to be a fan of Manny and Albert Belle, but condemn those of us who are fans of LeBron?
Bewitched, you have a VERY selective memory. To say Albert Belle was not loved and defended mercilously by this city is just plain WRONG. When he gave a cheap shot elbow running the bases, this city defended him. When he corked his bat, this city defended him. When he chased some kids down in his SUV, this city defended him.

And the fans were VERY angry at Thome for leaving, like a lover scorned. Again, rather than placing the blame on management, fans couldn't understand why someone might want to leave fair Cleveland for a better situation. Actually, I was a sports writer at the time Thome left and I could not believe the fan reaction. One of my colleagues actually wrote a column entitled "Thome the Phoney".

Now, you, being from Akron may stay loyal to LeBron regardless of his jersey. But I can guarantee, if he leaves, he will be despised by the majority.

Thanks Elizabeth, I haven't been up to see the Tribe when Thome was in town. But listening to the games on the radio, I didn't think I heard the fans booing.
You're welcome! I truly think that woman is bipolar. She says the nastiest things, and then she turns around and says she's not angry, a bigot, or racist, and says she Christian. She attacks without provocation, yet says she only attacks when attacked. It's like a Jekyll/Hyde thing. I showed her an example of her comments to her of why people say what they will, and she still couldn't understand. I guess that's to be expected of someone who is so lonely with no connection to their own hometown news that they have to comment on stories in another city and state where they haven't lived for years and years.

As for Jimmy, yes, he is cheered. Almost standing ovation, and he always acknowledges the fans. I sure hope LeBron doesn't leave either, but I do want him to win a championship. If he can't do it here, then I will still be a fan if he moves. He doesn't need the money, but with money comes status. It is his job, and it is only natural for him to want to move up to a team where the owners spend more money for the talent - everyone, not just LeBron. Whether or not he chooses to marry the mother of his children is none of my business. As previously posted, maybe it is she who chooses not to marry him!!

No, you have it wrong. I said that Belle and Manny were NOT fan favorites.

Going by fans reaction to Thome when he's in town, I would say that he has NOT been shunned. Not to say it wasn't a shock when he left.

Of course there will be some haters IF Bron should leave. There has been haters on Topix everyday while he is here! But he's made quite a favorable impression around here and in Cleveland for both on and OFF the court contributions. I think he will looked at in high regard for ALL that he has done someday.

Bipolar? I wondered what was going on in her mind saying one thing and being the opposite. I'm not trying to FORCE my opinions of religion on her. I'm just sharing sports opinions (as this is a SPORTS forum).

I agree about Bron and Savannah. It's their business about their marriage. They seem to be very happy and Bron always said how much he wanted to be a father. A piece of paper doesn't mean they are more committed to each other. They are together because they WANT to be.

GO CAVS Friday!

Gone have to agree with you on her. Check out her comments in the Lefty Lounge. Its a lost cause to respond back cause she knows it all and is right about everything. I had to let it be with her cause shes a lost cause. Shes a certified christian so she has that right to judge according to her.. If any of you have ever seen Trading Spouses show (think it is called that) where they had that obese lady on there that kept calling the family devils and un-holy and one day she spazed out and screamed "your not a christian". I think that may be her.

Bwahahahahahahaha!! Hilarious! You are right. She is a lost cause. I'm not going to bother with that mess anymore. I can't stand arrogant hypocrites, and she's the biggest one on here. She's obviously just an old lady who is so set in her ways that she's not willing to open her eyes.

I disagree with you and you think it is OK to call me bipolar? Lonely? With no connection to my home town? You are the nasty one here. I lived in Ohio til 2 years ago. Still have family and friends there. Still am a Tribe and Cavs fan. Just don't go with the idol worship of athletes. Saw Lebron play in high school. Saw him play at the Q. He is very talented, but still only a man. And you have your head in the sand if you think that he wouldn't leave for more money. It is his right. And do not question my Christian walk. I am not the one that is worshiping Lebron, you are. You two can just stick together here. I am not the one professing to be a Christian, but using a name "Bewitched".

Now you call me an old lady? Why? Set in my ways? Wow. I am not going to argue with you. You are the one who appears to be mean tempered here. Let's scroll back and see how this started with you. I guarantee you got nasty first. And it had nothing to do with you. You jumped on the bandwagon with someone who disagreed with me.

I agree with you especially the hypocrite part. Just by admittedly going to the Tribe and Cavs games is a show of support for athletes that she deems unworthy men.

Let her be the one to go.

You don't GET to tell ANYBODY what to think or who to worship. Understand?

You're tallking about my moniker and you don't even know me. Ever see the show Bewitched? Well, my name is Samantha and that is how it came about. My address has 3 sixes in it so I picked that name. I could give a rat's a$$ what you think about it. But one thing I know for sure, YOU should NOT have the name "My Smiley Face".

Nuff said.

She's in the Lefty Room saying I'm not civil and I don't have an open mind. Unreal. As I said, I'm done with her. Her garbage will always stink no matter what anyone says to her. I never said I worship any sports player. I just simply love my sports and appreciate the athletes who play them. If LeBron leaves, sure I will be bummed. It won't be the end of the world. If he does leave, I will always be a fan of his, unless he starts to trash talk Cleveland fans. Given his maturity and the way he carries himself, I doubt that would ever happen.

I go to see the teams, not individual players. I mistakenly said Elizabeth was worshiping the players. Sorry, it was you. I have been a Tribe fan since Rocky Colavito. They aren't much to watch these days, but I still follow them. And I have been a Cavs fan since the early 70's. Ddin't worship them either. Enjoyed watching them play. Still do. Funny, people don't agree with you and you call them hypocrites. I feel sorry for both of you. Enjoy each other's company. You will be lonely.

I gotta say I agree with Smiley here. I believe we should be slightly more selective with those whom we elevate to lofty status. The ability to dunk, throw, or hit a ball should really not play much in the equation at all. How many Tiger or Kobe or steroid scandals do we need before we sit and back and say "you know what, maybe these guys aren't really the best role-models for our kids".

And the scary thing is, this "athlete worship" begins at a very early age. Kids that have outstanding ability (sometimes even just marginally), are treated like little gods and pampered like little kings. Really, ultimately, it does more harm than good to many of these kids who rarely overcome the tremendous odds to become professional athletes.

Those who do become professional athletes have never been told "No" in their lives. They have developed, in most instances, a sense of entitlement and a false sense of elevated personal value. In most instances, they are not the kinds of people I hope my children grow up to be.

Of course there are exceptions. I can think of maybe a handful during my life. Men, or women, who fully deserve the praise and accolades we hand them. Is LeBron one? I cannot say. He is young and has a long road to travel before that verdict can be reached.
