But when the whole team seems to be giving less than 100%,, then maybe the move needs to be made in the coaching.

I think this is very true. Joe Dumars use to bring it all, everynight when he played. He in turn insists on his players doing the same.
I think if Detroit could get a very dependable "GO TO" slashing scorer - Hense GRANT HILL, it would take presure off the rest of the team.. This is still a Great Defensive team when they take the time and effort to play it. Without a slashing/scorer they can not play the offensive team Flip has them trying to be. At least not on a Day in and day out basis.
I do think the current Pistons bring the effort on a regular basis, but the other team also know to beat the Pistons, they too have to bring their "A" game when playing the Pistons.
The Pistons feel the presure that comes with being an elite team. When Brown had them consentrating on Defense, they played as a solid unit. Although Flip's Offense is definately exciting, it is hard to run correctly. It takes a ton of precise movement by the WHOLE team to work correctly, and if at least 3 players are not able to "light it up" on any given night, it's extremely hard to pull off a victory in the NBA. Flip has a rock solid DEFENSIVE team, trying to play a west coast "light it up" offense.
Joe has every right to expect the effort from his players, he also has the right to expect his coach to coach them for what they are, a DEFENSIVE team. Either start concintrating on Defense again, or get the slashing/shooters that would support this FLIP offensive team.
