Heat Q&A with Ira Winderman

Q: Can you believe Pat Riley called out Shaq, telling him he should give back half his salary if he's only going to play hard in half the games? Most coaches aren't that candor in speaking about their star ... Full Story

Do you only post obnoxious comments about Walker?
Seriously if your fans think Posey was the only player that showed heart they are blind and stupid.

Walekr worked his butt off but of course you refuse to give him any credit Typical bandwagon Florida fans.

Do you think the Heat should sign or trade for a consistent 3rd leading scorer on offense behind Wade/Shaq? Or as long as they keep Zo, JWill, Posey, develop Wright's all around game more, and get a solid young backup PG for our supporting cast, then there would be no reason for a big move like that?

Phil Jackson is probably right but Shaq is too old now to make an impact of 30 pts 10 rebounds and 5 blocks a game like he did with the Lakers. Shaq said he was going to bring a championship to Miami, he did that and now he feels theres nothing left to achieve. Then again, thats how all the players felt this season!

Do you think the Heat will make a move in acquiring as an "off the bench" specialist the likes of Grant Hill. I know he has had his shares of injuries, but when he is healthy, he plays very very effective. If we were to use him like we use Alonzo, i think his injuries would be less.

Here's what I'm tired of hearing: How the Heat players did play up to the level they should. This is ONLY PART of the issue. The OTHER PART IS PAT RILEY as coach. Winning 6 rings CAN make you stubborn. Riley is as much to blame as the players. It was his job to help his players succeed. You cannot play a younger running team with a man to man with a 60% (at best) star and 30+ players and expect to win. It was simple: change the DEFENSE. A 3-2 zone would have protected your players in the condition they were in and helped them be competitive. Stubbonrness has long been Riley's problem. For all his greatness he's never been an adaptive coach. Force feeding was not the way against the Bulls

If Shaq (OLD and LAZY), would have made HALF of his freethrows the 20 million man, and Wade PURLY SUCKED at the point guard position. I think WADE had 28 - 30 turnovers in 4 games against the Bulls (Playoffs), and was a BALLHOG, and OVERATED, and the Heat bench just stunk period. Heat LOST because of free throws and STUPID WADE TURNOVERS at the end of a 4 game series with the Bulls. And Riley to DUMB to see how BAD SHAQ and WADE played was his own FAULT. NO TEAM basketball by Wade and Shaq.

This is in reference to 2 things. 1. Jason Kapono: I'm really surprised that no one seems to see what I saw this year. Kapono is deadly if given the option to be an option. The problem this year AFTER Pat returned is he NEVER was an option. I love Pat but he tends to stick with the status quo when it comes to the veterans he coaches. Think about this: I honestly don't think we would have ever seen Jason come of age this hear had Pat not went out for his surgery. Ron played him and we all wondered: Where has this guy been? Easy answer, on the bench with Pat with out a glance in most cases.
2. In reference to Pat coming back. I know that he has the brilliant mind of coaching and motivating. But his tendency to only play 7 to 8 players hurt. A prime example of that was last year. We get Derek Anderson who actually had a few good games during the season but when playoffs come, he might as well have not suited up and no one would have known he wasn't there. More importantly though is Shandon Anderson. Pat was forced to use him because of fouls and look what happened? I hope someone gets the point I am making.
Because of Pat wanting to be loyal (I guess) to the veterans who were on the Championship team last year, Pat made NO CHANGES TO GET BETTER. EVERYONE ELSE DID. As a result we were swept.
Also because of him wanting to allow Wade to do what was thought he could do again (pre injury), I think he put way too much on him. Wade is a competitor, so you know he was not backing down. The problem is that he as NOT READY TO TAKE IT IN HIS HANDS. The timing was off and even his free throws and turnovers were unusual. That should have been the clue to have a Kapono as an option. Some are saying he can't create his shots. Well that's why you have plays with him coming off screens so he could do what he was number 1 at. Hitting that sweet jumper.
I hope we get younger and maybe Pat would consider Jeff Van Gundy if he decides to NOT come back. If he comes back, let's PLAY the guys that have been ignored.

Ira, why doesn't D-Wade have the mentallity to play defense. I would assume that an unstoppable player, like he is on offence ,would be able to be a shut down defender. Has he ever try to improve on his one-on-one defense?

Ira i am a quite heat fan meaning i have been pulling for them for 4 or 5 years now and to me it looks like the heat is making some of the mistakes with players like the dolphins did with throwing money at older players.
my question to you is why cant the heat go after desmond mason and chris paul and then cut a couple of less productive players ?

Is there a chance that the heat could sign an all-star? I think someone like Rashard Lewis would be a great addition to the Heat.
