lakers needed bynum in this series. lakers could have won in 5 games. shaq always say that kobe needed him to win a title. did he ever thought he couldnt have won it without kobe and the rest of the lakers. he was miserable in the clutch. this team is a much better team than the shaq/kobe-led lakers. the competition just got tougher.

I am very proud of my the Lakers team. I never thought they will make it this far. I thought next year they will make it to the finals but they surprise me and a lot of people. I have season tickets and I am eager for next season to start. Now the Lakers players know every single game in the season is as important as the playoffs. Homecourt advantage helps a lot.
Go Lakers!!

I'm sick of hearing this "Lakers win with Bynum" crap.

Here are the facts: Your team is soft, weak-willed, and gutless with or without Bynum. Your "big three" is made up of two soft players (mentally and physically) and Kobe. You play ZERO defense, your coach is indifferent, your Euros are weak, and your entire team is a bunch of spolied cry-babies. You have NO homecourt advantage because your fans are botox-ed B-list celebs and rich LA yuppie trash.

I have to go now, I have a parade to attend. We haven't stopped dancing in the streets yet. Better luck next year, losers!

Gut check, gut check - that's one of the things that the Lakers forgot to do. If I were asked to go in and guard Posey or Eddie House and realizing what they have done to th Lakers in past games, I'll be damn if I'm going to have them do that to me - not on my watch. I'll do everything but let them shoot those threes or just play good old fashion defense and make them useless to the point that their coach would have to take them out (and I will do the same to the next guy). This is playing with intensity, heart and determination. Forget about the double team - I can live with KG or Pierce doing their thing because you know they're capable of doing that. Besides, that's somebody else's responsibility on my team. Everyone's got to go in and have to play with the same things I am going to play with - intensity, heart ,and determination. Got to move them feet and arms and NOT just stand in front of the man you're guarding and letting him think how he's going to play you.- make them work for everything they want to do. If you distract him enough with your arms and foot movement, he's not going to be able to think of what to do, but to get away from you and he would have to try and simply pass the ball - rendering him useleess for a shot. This, for me, is the way competitions should be played - all out. Like the saying goes - "you can make-a-do of what you have or just have the right tool to the job right" It is NOT what you can do but rather realizing what you need to do adjust to the situation and be effective. Sometimes you don't have any choice but to up your game to be competetive or more competetive. This is how you become a specialist.
Phil Jackson did not manage his substituion right and they all paid for it. End of discussion.

If the Laker would have played some "D" they wold be dancing in the streets! LEts look back and all of th IF"S.
Game 2 the Lakers almost came back from 24 points, if they played better defense they wold have won that game! Series 1-1
Game 4 if the Lakers Played Defense with a 24 point led they would have won the game!
Series 3-1
Game 5 Lakers won Series would have been over Series 4-1
But there was no Defense!

Kevin,

You're a sane sports editor. Can you please rub some of that good wisdom on your fellow sports writers? Thanks for sanity.

And your team wouldn't have won without all of that help from the refs. The Lakers were the TRUE team; they didn't have two all-stars magically fall into their lap like the Celtics did (if you think the Gasol deal comes close to the KG and Allen deals, then you're dumber than you look). They had to overcome all kinds of adversity to get to where they're at. I'll bet you're one of the bandwagoner chowderheads who didn't even care about the Celtics until this year. We'll see how far you guys get when all of the key veterans have retired, James Posey moves on for more money, Eddie House proves that he's just a fluke, and Paul "I'm nothing more than a big baby" Pierce and KG no longer have that "championship motivation." You'll go right back to being at the bottom of the barrel... where you belong.

Finally. Some perspective. The Lakers were young and hurt. They will win at least 2 over the 5 years.

This team is NOT better than the shaq-kobe lakers...But, if it were to acquire Artest, it could be.

It desperately needs a clutch shooting small forward and/or a perimeter defender.

I don't care who says what, Kobe is still the best player in the league and for the umpteenth time, Michael Jordan in not in a league of his own. He had great players that made him greater therefore, the same goes for Kobe. 95% of greatness comes from within the person, but the 5% that comes from your environment still counts. The Lakers are a young team, young and promising; they are the future of NBA and 2008-2009 is going to prove that to all the haters in the world. If you are giving up on the Lakers because they lost one finals game then your not worthy to call yourself lakers fans. Me, I'm a laker to the end and a Kobe fan for life, he is the greatest player, period!!!!!

Lakers lost heart, Kobe the MVP was shut out. What happend to the Kobe whom cried when lost to the Pistons and said this will never hapen again. Not that I thuoght that could happen but he had heart. No more heart from Kobe or his team. Laker land is covered in dark gray clouds and the rain is falling and i see no ray of light piercing trhough the let down. Oh yeah they say this kid Bynum is good. Lets not forget the MVP cant get shut out even with Bynum. Bynum is not a young Shaq. The lakers may or may not make it back to the Finals next year. If they are coached to play D but hey the Zin master looked like a novice to me.

Wow, Dan, if you're really so busy dancing in the streets, then how are you able to take time to troll the net to find an LA-based article? And write such an intellectual, informed reply? Can't get enough coverage of your home team back in NE? By negatively characterizing people in LA and childishly bashing their home team, you just put the stamp on the boorish NE stereotype.

The Lakers are young. They learned how to get a lead but not yet how to hold onto it. If they are so terrible, where does the rest of the league stand? We used to say you needed to lose in the finals to learn how to win one. The lakers are in the process of that. With Bynum in the middle, a healthy Mhim as backup and the rest of the team another year older and tougher, the Lakers will be back. Remember, Lamar, Pau and the rest of the team han't won anything yet (with the exception od Kobe and Derek). Kudos to Boston this year, but where were they in the previous seasons? Right......

Thank you, thank you, thank you! A writer with some common sense! What a concept. I've been a Laker fan for 40 years and while I am embarassed by the butt kicking they got from the Celtics, I know the better team (for now) won the game. The Lakers had an improbable run considering the off season and they lost to the team who had the best record in the league. No shame in that. All the bandwagon fans need to stay home and cheer for the freakin Clippers cause we don't need you. The Lakers will be back in it next year and they'll win it.

LOL at the idiots who keep saying the lakers had no heart. You don't win the west without heart. The lakers were to young and had no expierience outside of kobe and fisher. The celtics had the better series. The lakers still won two games, and if they had not fell asleep in game 4 they could have won the series. The big difference really is when the celtics were melting in game 2 the ref's stepped in to help them. when the lakers melted the ref's did nothing to help them. All these band wagon celtics fans are complete idiots. These are the same ass holes that were screaming mvp for kobe last year. Now that their team finally wins after 22 years LMAO they are die hard fans. Even bibby saw through thise idiots.

It is about time for Boston, I guess, it has been how many years since a championship. Let's see what happens next year.

In one word... YES!

Yes, Mr. Modesti, nobody could have put it better than you. Those Lakers are PATHETIC, UNCARING, and GUTLESS LOSERS just like you said. Some other words come to mind, but we'll just leave it at that since we want to keep this blog family friendly.
