When the Heat became a franchise I had been a Larry Bird Celtics fan. Before that I was a Sonics fan and before that Portland and b4 that San Fransisco Warriors.

When Riley came on board I cringed. I can't stand the guy but I have to hand it to him since he did do as he said and brought an NBA championship to Miami. All the while I never liked the style his teams play and I don't like most of his philosophies.

I don't believe for one minute that it is Spoelstra who is mandating that Beazley ride the pine b/c of his defensive shortcomings. Really?! On a team that came pretty close to breaking it's own futility mark last year? Riley's proclivity for benching rookies is well known. Who would have guessed that he'd come up with SOME reason why Beez was gonna have to ride the pine to start the season. I am really starting to get sick of Riley.

Unfortunately, due to illness and physical handicap I am unable to attend Heat games but for a couple times a year so I can't threaten to not renew my season tix. However I am going to pester the owner with mail letting him know how much I detest Riley's position of total control over the Heat.

Same old Pat Riley Clone, going to ruin this kid. They are now
0-3 and we are still experimenting with this garbage from last year. If they thought Udonis was the answer, Why did they draft him? Why not draft the big guy that New Jersey got? Need to unleash the kid and let him play basketball, it's what he does best!!!!

I watched the games overseas and I thought B-easy had a bunch of defensive lapses although his offense is undeniable...this kid looks like a bigger D-wade but lefty..fade away jumpers, spin move-to-dunk in the paint, runners, handle, monster on the boards, etc..dude is serious.

..but on the defensive side he was late to rotate a few times and lacked defensive intensity. Thats all coach Spo is saying...the kid needs to earn playing time by showing he is not a defensive liability. Thats good coaching. Look at the last 3 champs in the NBA, they were all great defensively.

Now that said, if B-easy doesn't start, I think he should get a ton of minutes off the bench and make the rookie earn it. Riley is not pulling the strings here!! Vangundy didn't start Wade in his rookie year right off the bat..he didn't start till mid season and look how he turned out..

Kderell I so agree with you man. This is getting old. I think Riley needs to get his hands off this organization, Pfund's welcome never wore out..but Riley's has been...for a while..

There's no denying Beasley is a freak. At 19, the Heat made a GREAT pick. The key will be moving Marion for a center and hopefully dumping Blount ASAP.

This team needs as much continuity on the defensive side of the ball as they can get. Defense wins Championships & offense sells tickets.
As HEAT fans were emotional & want to see the best players on the floor, but at what cost? A slow start? Back-back-back losses? No one wants that, so if it means keeping this guy on the bench until the "fire that BURNS brightest in his heart" is to SHUT down opposing forwards then he has to sit.
I have no doubt B-Easy is a force, but this is the big leagues--we need to see it on both sides. If he's gonna be the All-Star everyone expects, then he has to be a two-way player. Most of you are just thinking about his offense. That's the biggest challenge for young players-- They played zone in college & there wasn't defensive 3 seconds--that's a BIG adjustment.
My guess is by opening night, Beastly will be on the floor in the starting lineup with much improvement on D! When he learns to keep his intensity up on D, he'll be a monster---because then he'll be dialed into ALL phases of the game, and in the end that's what WE as HEAT fans want!
