Miami Heat: Who will start

Full story: South Florida Sun-Sentinel

When it comes to power forward, there is clarity for the Miami Heat . Asked after Saturday's practice if Udonis Haslem would definitely be starting Sunday night at that position against the Atlanta Hawks , coach Erik Spoelstra offered a definitive, "yes." Asked about his starting small forward in Game 1 of the best-of-seven NBA first-round playoff ...

Ok,so we have achieved all we set out to do, we are in the playoffs. We dont need to win any games, All we need is for our rookies to be able to say they had 4 playoff games and know what its like to be in the post season.

so obviously this is the organization's position. I just hate when a team doesnt want to win.

Spo is a joke. He's over his head big time. It was no surprise to me that he said he can't even eat on game days or he'll bring it up b/c he chokes with his game adjustments and rotations every time. How in the world can you leave a player like Beasley on the bench? Have you seen how we start games when he hasn't been starting. It's 1 against 5 on offense.

Riley wouldnt have started Beasly either. Its who is playing at the end of the game. Beas, will get plenty of minutes. Spo took a team that won 15 and turned them into the #5 seed. Not bad for a first year coach.

the heat should get more touches for JO...he shoots 48% and only shooots like 11 or 12 shots per game.

Thing is it wouldn't be such a big deal Beasley not starting if we had anyone else apart from Wade that is a consistent scorer, Haslem says scoring 'isn't his job' but then whose job is it? Dwyane can't score 50 a game.

You see how stupid Spoelstra is. Beasley is way better than Haslem or Jones and he is also able to keep Atlanta honest with his shooting. Spoelstra thinks he's intellgent but his a stupid stupid man. I think the real truth is that he has a cultural bias against Beasley.

Haslem is singlehandedly killing the heats playoff chances by starting over beasley and we should all be praying that he gets injured

PS: Haslem, any contact with your hand will be accidental, belive that because the Hawks LOVE seeing you on the court instead of Beasley

Haslem with minutes at center kills us more than Haslem starting.

Thats hard to do.

Especially kills us against the athletic hawks, theyll have a dunkathon and ft shooting contest, plus dominate the boards with haslem at center

I agree. Ive been a dedicated fan since i was 11 years old in 1992 at my first playoff game and ive never been this frustrated with the organization

even when we won 15 games there was hope with the pick coming up and dwyane getting back healthy

the goal isnt winning, its "Dont hurt Haslems feelings"

Thats the only explanation if Haslme starts over Beasley. Period.

Cook better start at Small Forward and not James Jones, he's way WAY better for guarding Joe Johnson and he plays bigger than Jones despite being an inch shorter, he rebounds better and is a more talented athlete and allaround offensive player, plus plays great with wade and is way better defensively than jones

Spo better tighten up the rotation too, and better have Magloire getting those backup minutes at center, only other guy with even one minute at center would be anthony, not haslem

Spo youre killing me for real, Haslem over Beasley is making i so much harder for us to win

If anything haslem is the heart and soul of the heat,he brings toughness, and is a big hard nose defender,he and dwayne will lead the heat pass the hawks.

Yes I agree Haslem is all that but he's not better than Beasley, its not close. He's a great role player. The most important thing is getting off to a good start on the road in the playoffs, especially with the Hawks b/c they are young and their fans only get hype when they are in it (ex. Boston last year). With Haslem starting we will be down 15 by 2nd quarter as is usual then spend the whole game trying to catch up. Why in the world would you have your 2nd best player and only other scoring option on the bench??

Start beasely?what will beasely do that dwayne cant do?if miami lose game 1,it will be because the hawks have home court, and they got their crowd standing behind them.Dwayne is known for carring his team through the storm,at crunch time, thats when dwayne turns in to flash, when he gets hot, theres no stopping him

This is the right move. We need to limit Beasley's minutes now to keep him fresh for the Finals.

Also, what on earth would we do if Beasley were to pick up a foul in the first quarter? We'd have to sit him on the bench and play Haslem instead. The obvious solution is to play Haslem over Beasley as a preemptive measure. The logic is unassailable. That's why Spoelstra gets the big bucks.
