Rambis' decision not to foul in the last 27.3 has been criticized, but I
don't see that as a necessarily bad decision. Lawson could have put the
Nuggets up by 3 or 4 points with free throws. If he makes both, the
game is effectively over. If he makes 1, the lead is 3, and you can
only tie and go into overtime. The Wolves' record in overtimes is
abysmal, and they were tired. The only question is: How do you want
to lose in the last 27 seconds? The defining play that set this loss
in stone was Corey Brewers' pass to the opposition in declining minutes.
How many times can you foul in 27 seconds, and how often are the
Nuggets going to miss? You'd have to count on Ty missing both to
win the game with a 3 ball.
