I couldn't more vociferously disagree with Orlando Magic coach Stan Van Gundy , who wrongly claims there's really nothing to the mystique of the Boston Celtics -- the most storied franchise in the history of the NBA .

The JJ comment was related to the fact they are the defending champs, not the Celtics.

Let's face it, if this team were the Celtics of 2-3 years ago, all the mystique in the world wouldn't save them. The Magic shut down the original Boston Garden and all it's mystique back in the Shaq days.

Mystique might matter for the first quarter of the first game, but in a 7 game series all that goes out the window and players play.

Poor Van Gundy, can't get any respect. Great coach, great season, and Bianchi has to dig for anything to fill the pages. Why is everyone up there in Central and Northern Florida so spoiled and rotten?

Wow, blanket statement much? Don't blame the region for what one man says.

THis was the best case of a reporter taking a classy shot at a coach he doesn't like anymore.

The underlying sarcasm is perfect.

I agree, Yoda. The Magic are playing the Celtics, they are not playing history. That "mistique" was woefully absent after Bird, McHale and Parish left, and all they were getting were D-leaguers to play against the Bulls or the Lakers.

Now they have a foul-mouthed jerk making faces as if he were a two-bit gansta while sitting on the bench in street clothes and a team that looked absolutely clueless for three quarters.

Maybe they can dress "Mistique" and play him at the five.
